...They inject living Godzilla cells into the left over Ghidora head, creating a weird hybrid that imitates Godzilla primarily but is made of Alien DNA, with the “crystal” formation on his shoulders being horribly messed up vestigial mouths and teeth from the missing Ghidora heads.

    How’s that?

That would really work for Monsterverse. Another brillant explanation and idea!

if they included the kid from Godzilla's Revenge in the new film that would be the mother of all cameos.

The Cold War aspects of the film stood out to me as well as I don't recall seeing that as prominently in too many of the other Godzilla pictures I've watched. Although I could be forgetting something.
It was interesting to see the US, Russian, and Japanese authorities and military deal with the threat of Godzilla.

I'm looking forward to rewatching this picture again someday. But I've still got about 4 Godzilla films here that I've already purchased that have not yet been watched.

And Mothra III from the 90s too lol. The first two were fun and funny.

Not really. We could have that Space Godzilla is, like Godzilla, is an ancient being that was created thanks to: aliens, Ghidorah before he* was frozen, natural catastrophes that throw Godzilla DNA up in space, etc. Or we don't explain, Space Godzilla comes down from space and wreak havoc and the humans have no idea how or why.

    * is Ghidorah a he or a they becouse of the heads?

I do but admit it's awful. It reminds me of my childhood, as it was the 2nd Godzilla movie I ever saw when I was 5 or so.

I remeber it fondly myself. It made the monsters feel less threatening, that a kid could be involved in their daily lives. I liked it actually.

<1st World Problem> My problem with "shared world" franchises is I feel like I have to do homework before watching a movie.

Example: I had no interest in Skull Island at all even though I was told it's good. Now I feel like I'm forced to watch it because of Godzilla vs Kong. I did during the summer and while I didn't hate it I didn't like it as much as pretty much everyone around me did. About 1/2hr left and I'm thinking "can this be over please?" If it wasn't for GvK I'd have never seen it.

This is similar to the Marvel movies. When Capt America 3: Civil War came out i was asked if its good, my relpy was its ok but you have to see not only Cap 1 and 2 (understandable cuz its the 3rd) but Avengers 1 and 2, Ironman 3, know who Spiderman is and his schtick, ect ect. With each movie this is more of a problem. I knew people that were interested in Infinity War because it was promoted so much but didnt want to see 14 other movies beforehand.

I actually don't disagree with the anti-shared universe argument. I will say it's easier with the Monsterverse since there's only a total of 4 movies, including GvK. I still haven't seen any Avengers movies after Age of Ultron primarily because it's too much work to catch up with that many movies. Maybe before I had kids I could do it. Not now, though.

I don't know that the shared Monsterverse really needs to be kept up with in order to pick up what is happening in GvK. I have multiple friends who have only screened King of the Monsters and Monarch was just the "established off screen" group used to move the plot along to them. There are plenty of standalone films where the viewer is dropped in on characters or organizations that are fleshed out from the beginning and we just infer and catch up.

I don't imagine I would have had to see Skull Island to know who Kong is. He's a pop culture icon. I don't need to know that he threw trees at Samuel L Jackson.

You echo my sentiments. Movies need to be made as if no one has seen the other films and yet also continue the storyline of the other films; this is done easily in a recap or dialouge tha summarizes what happened prior to the film being watched.

I see your point, this one movie Star Wars A New Hope drops you in the middle of a fight and it doesn't take long to figure out what is what. It's a problem like what @JoshieHewls said when within 2 years theres 8 movies you need to catch up with.

There is a balance, Freddy vs Jason did a good job being a sequel to both franchises with a short intro at the start. Star Wars too; a cousin of mine watched ROTJ with me once and afterwards found out she hadn't seen ANH or ESB (This was before the PT came out) and liked Jedi just fine. We'll have to bring this up again when Godzilla 6 and Kong 4 come out!

Edit: tbh I watched Skull Island just to see if there were any Godzilla easter eggs (pun not intended lol)

If 9 films from now, Godzilla is battling Gigan I really don't need to know the circumstances in which he fought Ghidora in the 3rd film.

We're talking about Kaiju. I can watch Final Wars without needing to recall whatever dopey alien race was behind Destroy All Monsters.

It's not like we're being asked to understand where all the Infinity Stones came from or how Hydra coopted SHIELD. We're watching giant monsters punch each other and blast one another with radiated breath.

That's true. We also don't have stand-alone movies for Rodan, Mothra, or any other monsters to plant plot-seeds in.

Wait why exactly do you have to see Kong Skull Island before Kong vs. Godzilla?
Spoiler: Kong is a giant monkey. I just saved you 2 hours.

BECAUSE: The human characters have some sort of plot that may connect to the plot of some of the human characters from the prior films and we all watch these films because of our deep investment in the humans.
