I was kind of expecting the Power Broker to be revealed at the end of this episode, since they were not I’m of the mind that they are either not that important or will be saved for the end as a teaser for some future project
It could literally just be a functionary within the CIA that Sharon's investigating played by a no-name actor and I wouldn’t bat an eye. Sharon’s very clearly more likely to be undercover, though; having access to a personal satellite is a bit too powerful for a stolen art dealer and fence.
@godisawesome that’s an idea for sure, however Sharon has had a very small role so far so I don’t know how that would connect to either Sam or Bucky’s story, it seems more like that’s a set up for a later story with Sharon?
I like Sam's use of his suit in combat. Wing-Fu? Now here another of theories shot down. Spoiler So Walker was not already on the serum. I guess that fine despite all his physical abilities considering what we see normals like BW and Hawkeye do. It's great when a villain is so well done you cheer for them as a character. Zemo of course.
Sam’s combat style is sadly not eagle claw. I like how they’ve shown his growth in using the suit. Re: Walker Spoiler that was interesting he wasn’t already on the serum. That little tremor after he injected himself reminded me of the Soviet Winter Soldiers but as Negal said, his serum is more subtle. Still, it’s heightening John’s psychosis.
That's what I've been really liking with the MCU, making Sam's Falcon gear more that a flight suit (a jetpack with wings), but also a combat/tactical gear.
Spoiler We don’t see him inject himself. We just know he did it between his talk with Lemar, and when he’s sucked into the trap.
Spoiler No, we do not see him inject it into himself, but that you see him tremor or shake slightly which implies he just injected himself.
Spoiler He does that weird body shake/stretch thing a lot in each episode, I’ve seen people do it in real life when they’re looking to workout or show off or for a fight.
This last episode retroactively enhances the scene between Dr. Erskine and Steve in Captain America: The First Avenger, when Dr. Erskine tells Steve why he was chosen to be part of the super soldier program. Steve was chosen because he was a good man and the serum would make him a great man. Spoiler John Walker was given the shield because he was most likely considered a perfect soldier. I believe Steve handed the shield to Sam because he was a good man. And on another note, I'm sure someone will be a side-by-side comparison of John Walker at the end of this episode and Steve Rogers never the end of Captain America: Civil War when... Spoiler Steve was about to crush Tony's skull with the shield...
John Walker did the right thing. He gave himself a fighting chance, something they US government failed to do apparently for him, minus they trained him to use the shield, lol. Crazy General Ross gave Tim Roth's character in Incredible Hulk movie a fighting chance with the serum,, which was more than what the government did for Walker(or even Lamar), they sent a regular human out or two humans out there to fight superhumans and space aliens, itself preposterous and suicidal. The Wakanda people arent particularly natural either by any stretch, they are enhanced through the effects of Vibranium in the soil and food they consume and air they breath for generations. Plus they use that Heat-Shaped Herb which grants them basically superhuman abilities around as equal to Captain America. Walker as a US Government agent sent out to deal with these threats, killed a known super soldier enhanced terrorist and mass murder as a soldier, not sure why other soldiers are stunned(Buck and Falcon). His move is also very similar to Rogers taking out Iron Man in his rage back in Civil War to protect and save Bucky from Stark about to kill him. Walker is a natural candidate for the serum, he's already superior to all these Flag Smashers, so his body took the serum better than them, they were no match for the US Agent. Moreover it should be noted that Red Skull did not put on a ton of muscle either. For all we know the serum could be derived from Red Skull.
Yeah, the U.S. government could end up backing Walker's actions as he Spoiler killed a terrorist that was linked to the bombing of the GRC depot and may blame the death of Battlestar on the man that Walker killed, giving him justification. As for the Dora Milaje... or something like this could happen... I don't think the Dora Milaje's endgame with Zemo is to kill him, since T'Challa prevented Zemo from killing himself. I feel like they just want Zemo back behind bars, whether it be in Berlin or Wakanda.
Wow. Just watched episode 4. This series has crossed into being amazing. Great set up and tension. Spoiler Loved seeing Sam in his councilor role. Great callback to his origin. His conversation with Karlee was excellent. I’ve read reviews saying Anthony Mackie on this series brings a Will Smith like charm to the role and frankly - in the best possible way - I didn’t see it. Sam is charming but he is never the big shot or needs to be the center of attention - which a lot of Smith’s roles have him being. Sam is a team player and not the main guy. I think the role of Sam stands on its own as unique. But Will Smith also brings a sincere respect and caring for other people to many of his acting roles. I thought Mackie in this episode in his own way brought that empathy for other characters so the viewer felt it while watching. That was fantastic. John Walker made the mistake of a lifetime in this episode. This is how Tommy Lee Jones’ gut instinct for a proper soldier to be Captain America would have turned out. We finally get to see it playout. Zemo is fantastic in this series. The only villain problem Marvel has is that their very best villains are so well communicated and realized we stop seeing them as villains and instead see them as characters with motivations we understand if not agree with. Bucky is great as usual. I love how for him the super soldier serum is a curse. Like he’s a recovering werewolf. He can still tap into that power but hates using it. I hope Falcon is crushed by the truth about Sharon Carter. We’ll see. Pretty sure we saw the power broker in this episode. She was pitting all the characters against each other. Spoiler It is going to be almost impossible to spin that successfully. Not when it’s up against video from many angles showing Captain America bludgeoning or chopping another person to death with the Captain America Shield. The optics are horrible. John took Steve Rogers’ symbol of defense and protection and turned it into a crude murder weapon. That is a savage, rage filled, crude, hateful murder John committed. Just brutal. It’s not in self defense. It’s not to apprehend a terrorist. It’s murder. The new Captain America is going to be out of a job. Maybe not court marshaled or sent to jail, but he’s getting pulled from active duty. Whatever ends the situation with the least amount of drama to protract it. But he’s a maniac now hyped up 100% by super soldier serum. No way John Walker follows orders to step down. I don’t know if there is any way he gets out of this alive. Bucky will kill him if John attacks him. The military will pull a Colonel Kurts when doesn’t step down. Spoiler Sorry but that wasn’t fringing. Way too much motivation and pathos set up. LeMarr dying was in the cards from the start. It also is a reflection on Steve Roger’s friendship with Bucky and Sam. Steve lost Bucky and never flipped out. And later Steve risked everything to protect his friend when he was a tool of the villains. Also Steve protected Sam from fool hardy situations that would needlessly put him in harms way. Most importantly John Walker was not watching out for LeMar. He wasn’t taking his friends best interest into consideration. After a few defeats in the series and then being soundly out matched by the Wakanda Gaurd - its clear John and Lamar were out of their depth. Should have stopped while ahead. Also LeMar was John’s concouse. He could talk John down from his worst instincts. In a way it’s like losing his Bucky or Obi-Wan. Now John is doubly doomed. As for Lamar being a black side kick to the New Captain America. In the framework of the story the US Government set that up. That’s the narrative the military wants to sell in universe. It’s cliche on one level as much as an examination of the cliche on another level. And again it loops back to show the genuine strength of Steve’s friendship with Bucky and Sam.
What? This is like rooting for Homelander on The Boys... Also, something Mav and I noticed in a rewatch of The First Avenger tonight. I'm wondering if that's going to come into Flag Smasher ideology at all in the last couple of episodes...
Don't forget the "You could have the power of the Gods" line. Which Steve ultimately did get. Mjolnir.
Spoiler only thing i didn't like with the dora milage is walker getting kicked across the room . these movies/shows are going overboard for a while in the fight scenes. when someone kicks you , you don't fly 10 feet across a room. as for the power broker , the only two guesses i've heard so far that make sense are Sharon , or the Mandarin
Wait a second, did the US Government send John on this mission or did he take it himself? Best I can tell is the USA wanted a poster boy, a bonifide war hero to step away from the action and do public appearances to raise moral after the blip was undone. John wanted to be more than an actor playing Captain America and put pressure on himself to prove he was more. He thought taking down the Flag Smashers would make him the real deal and not a fake Captain America. I’m not so sure the US intended him to be Captain America and standup to super powered people. And I’m not sure the US wanted to create anymore super humans that are hard to control.
Watched the episode Spoiler as expected he took it. I am glad that Zemo destroyed most of the serum. Also I can’t blame Walker. Your best Friend was murdered in front of you. It would take a very strong person not to seek revenge. Like if someone that close to you was killed. Would you not seek Revenge. At least in some way you would. You might seek it through violence or you might seek it by seeing them brought to justice. In that moment. Right after that. I think I know what most people with the power walker has would do. I think deep down Walker is a good man, but really insecure. And that’s what makes him a good character
The main difference here being that Rogers didn't kill Stark. You really don't have a point here when the fundamentals are different (while the superficials might be similar).
I think the difference between Steve and John is Steve although devastated would have held back. John didn’t. Steve was almost perfect. He was by the end.
