If I go to him, Ben Solo will turn! Rey, believed that she was right. She saw Ben turning....in this scene. Spoiler Spoiler Rey Faces Luke with his lightsaber "tell me the Truth!" Spoiler ROTS: Later it was the former Kylo Ren who came to Rey; Spoiler (who earlier disappointed Rey when he told her "no, no you're still holding on. Let go!!!" ). Spoiler ... ROTS : Rey is holding Luke's saber while, Ben Solo returned. Spoiler Ben receives Luke's saber from Rey Spoiler Later, Ben saves Rey from death. He "let's go" at his expense. Spoiler TLJ to TROS tide turning/mirroring, very unique! But it all "works out" in the end. Cheers! MJ
Your son is gone. It's too late. Will you help me? I killed Han Solo. I didn't hate him. Your son is dead. It's too late. Dad...
Meta or is it?: Aki aki Festival of the ancestors, once every 42 years. C3PO : “She’s asking what is your family name?” We later find out Rey’s ancestor is Emperor Palpatine. 42 years before (ANH) the first time we hear about the real head honcho :”I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently” In TROS Rey said she has no family name” - to the young girl (Rey being also young hasn’t a clue who her ancestors are) during Aki Aki ... Finally responds to an old Lady (who possibly represents the old (like Palpatine age look) -at the end : Rey who? Rey happily disowns the Palpatine lineage to Skywalker. Cheers! MJ
Tell me the Truth! (starting from TLJ, culminating in what we learn in TROS) I give you.... Spoiler I saw darkness. I'd sensed it building in him. Snoke had already turned his heart. He would bring destruction, and pain, and death... and the end of everything I love because of what he will become. And for the briefest moment of pure instinct... I thought I could stop it. It passed like a fleeting shadow. And I was left with shame... and with consequence. ================================================================================================== Leia told me that she had sensed the death of her son at the end of her Jedi path. She surrendered her saber to me and said that one day.... it would be picked up again. Someone who would finish her journey... But this is your fight. You’ll take both sabers to Exegol. You have everything you need. Cheers! MJ
Palpatine knows Padme's Anakin's (later becomes Vader) weakness. So you can save Padme from certain death What did you say? (wonders how Palps knows about Anakin's commitment to Padme. Spoiler ========================================================================== What can you, give me? Everything! ..kill the girl...but beware.... Who is she? Palpatine knows Rey is Ren's (later becomes Ben again) weakness. Spoiler Cheers! Comments welcome. MJ
The Jedi way... Spoiler No. Strike me down in anger and I'll always be with you. Just like your father. And "I will not be the last Jedi". (jump to TROS: Rey takes over as a Jedi - and eventually [choosing] the Skywalker name.) Ren rejecting the Jedi. Like a Sith . I will kill her, and you and all of it! ========================================================================================= The Sith way... Spoiler No. Your hatred, your anger. You want to kill me? That is what I want. Kill me and my spirit will pass into you, as all the Sith live in me.... Palpatine wants her to be Empress. "We will be one". As Sith. Rey rejects the Palpatine name. All you want me is to hate. But I won't! Like a Jedi. Cheers! MJ
Anakin arrives at Palpatine’s office, jumps out and runs to help Palpatine defeat Mace Windu. Ben arrives at Palpatine’s temple on Exegol, jumps out and runs to help Rey defeat Palpatine.
TPM: Queen Amidala (Padme starting from a high perch [later Senator in AOTC], Palpatine selfishly wants her brought low and be destroyed) - Born from Royal Stock - On the outside tough, but on the inside sensitive. Weak link Anakin Skywalker turned Darth Vader. TROS: Empress Palpatine (Rey starting from the low perch Palpatine selfishly wants her to rule and destroy)- Born from poor background (normal mother, "failed" cloned son), - On the outside tough, on the inside sensitive. Weak link Ben Solo turned Kylo Ren Cheers! MJ
That's weird. I could've sworn I've read that post before! EDIT: Nevermind, I realized that you posted it in the Prequel Reference thread
Follow up : Queen Amidala. Palpatine (The Phantom Menace) wants to destroy (needs to eventually kill her) so he can rise naturally. (Purely selfish motivation) Spoiler Empress Palpatine. Palpatine (The Phantom Emperor) wants to nurture her ( to kill him) , so he can rise unnaturally. (Purely selfish motivation) Spoiler Cheers! MJ
Spoiler: The Ecstasy Of Gold Lando: new info. The Lando system is in fact the Gold system. 'Gold'. Han Solo's golden dice. More sw-related gold: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hidden_Fortress Gold means both the metal and 'heart'. Han's 'heart of gold'. The material purpose of the story and the spiritual quality capable of pushing forward that metal across time. Medal/metal>>mettle: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/mettle Spoiler: (More gold) Now, there's more I think. The 'gold system' says Lando. And it's associated to family. To Jannah. Family/gold somehow. What kind of gold? Jannah means 'Paradise' in Arabic. Eden. Is Jannah paradise lost/regained? Snoke certainly sounds like Snake. And what has gold to do with it? Paradise, gold, family. Lando, Han. Leia. Jannah. Ben? There's this famous poem from Robert Frost that Francis Coppola knew. It's in The Outsiders. I wonder if JJ had it on his mind. Here we have gold and paradise and also endurance, gold across time: 'Dawn goes dawn to day' is Rey in Tatooine. And that's also Rey Skywalker. And 'day' is the sun. Sun/son. And Ben happens to be a sun: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ben#Etymology_1 Nothing gold can stay; because 'it's not behind you, it is ahead' Who knows. Not here yet anyway.
Just thinking about the theme where a name is lost or gained. Ep 3 - "You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you." Said by Obi-Wan in past context - in heart-broken realisation Anakin is dead to him. Ep 6 - "I'm a Jedi. Like my father before me." Return of Jedi, return of Skywalkers. Ep 9 - "I did want to take your hand. Ben's hand." Return of Ben's name. This was noticeable straight away I guess but it is interesting to see how well this stuff echoes.
Grandparental family-lines are prominent in TROS it seems. With Shmi and Leia similarly getting the strongest emotional tied moments inversely at the beginning of Anakin's fall and Ben's return to light, both motivated by their mother's death moments. Palpatine and his granddaughter of course, with Palpatine in normal character; not having planned for her existence but trying to turn it to his advantage. Kylo helps end the horror and returns to his family and finishes Anakin's path in returning home.
In the very broadest sense, the plot of TROS (heroes hunting for evil space wizard) is basically an inversion of the plot of TFA (villains hunting for good space wizard).
I’d like to add it’s Luke who’s always calling Ben Solo (never Kylo Ren) as if Luke refusing to acknowledge Ben was beyond redeeming. Even Leia resigning to Ben’s fall as permanent. But Luke stayed the course. Possibly still not wanting to disappoint Leia. His love for his sister “but Leia trusted me with her son”. Remarkable considering Luke being so negative about his failures. Luke arguably of the view there’s still hope in some way but not in his destiny to solve the disaster befalling the Galaxy. MJ
I think we touched upon it earlier but I'm speedwatching a bit again and it's really interesting how both Rey and Kylo both show jedi/sith traits in a way. As in, Kylo is the villain (not a sith but u know.) but is looked at by Han, Leia and later Rey as not a complete lost case. They still think there's good in him. And how there is some sort of pureness/childlike vulnerability in him at times. Whilst with Rey, she is on the good side, but fights in anger (understandably of course, anyone would.) - but fights "like a sith", fueled with hate and anger, fights dirty, etc. I love a good evil vs good trope, but I really love a good mix vs mix aswell. I also think it's fascinating to see how childlike they both are.Not just in that they are young, inexperienced people hehe), but in that if you jump through scenes and watch their scenes together, it almost plays out like two unsupervised children. They argue, they try to compromise, they get into fights (and the fights aren't as clean cut/pro as the jedis vs siths etc from the other films). They share a connection together, they "meet up in secret", then fight and argue. More compromise, they help each other. They have a deep bond and feelings. They fight again, etc. If you had a supercut with only them from the 3 movies, I swear it would be like watching two kids who are all alone in the world, just trying to exist on the same playground.
/* Sorry for the double post, just fixing my own stupidity in not being able to correctly upload the first time. Palpatine being notably unimpressed in the face of a Jedi's weapon for three trilogies straight. I love this stuff, especially the shot from TROS. It's just so him.
Soon I will have a new apprentice = Anakin Skywalker The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi = Luke Skywalker The Princess of Alderaan has disrupted my plan = Leia Organa
