I liked how he was all pompus when meeting with Darth Vader, and as Vader steps closer to him while he is talking about meeting with the emperor, Vaders' closer presence makes him stutter. Kind of like the smartass kid who talks back to his parent, but loses all their courage as soon as the parent is right up close in front of them.
That is the best example of why Mendelssohn is a great actor. He understands the insecurities and banality of this evil character.
I always liked his delivery and look when he says "I will not fail" Something very sinister and vain behind that statement. Also I like the outburst he has at Tarkin when he yells "We stand here amidst my achievement, not yours!" Such an ego driven Imperial with his eccentric cape. Such a monster. A really brilliant character in my opinion.
Seems sociopathic. Weird thing is he seems merely nervous and not frightened about the prospect of Lyra shooting him before that.
The man was a scene stealer, so just about every line was a meme in waiting. If I had to pick 2: 1. Krennic as Vader's house guest. That takes guts, even if you are totally desperate. 2.
I always laugh at the demonstration when he impatiently say "Fire!" to the man with a wave of his hand.
I will always love that ****-eating grin Krennic has on his face even Vader insinuates he is still a commander, swiftly followed by quite the "grasping" of confirmation.
Indeed, it is amusing. Krennic was vexed with Tarkin. Additionally, I believe this that was done to differentiate himself from Tarkin, who calmly says, "You may fire when ready." It's a good example of Krennic's character.
The fun thing about old Krennic is that he's quite memable. I love Galen as one of my top seven favorite R1 characters. Quite a few things he says could be used to meme old Krennic. I may not like old Tarkin, but he's hilarious in R1. It's funny how calm he comes off compared to Krennic. What a hoot.
One of my favorite moments, and maybe it's a weird pick, but I like the way he gets knocked out and his mini-cape flies over and covers him. It's slightly humiliating but realistic, and so fitting for Krennic.
Complaining to Vader and getting Force choked for it. Because who in the right mind complains about Tarkin to Vader?
I think it's some of each (his skepticism of rumors and his uncontrollable ambition). To be fair, though, I don't think the "complains about Tarkin" part really mattered much. Vader's not really defending Tarkin specifically there... he just doesn't like Krennic's whiny complaining, his quickness to blame others, and his overeager ambition.
I too love the "It's Lira, back from the dead" part. Krennic in general is one of my favorite villains. Just a normal dude, basically a project manager trying to make sure he gets credit for the biggest project of his career. He's really actually pretty relatable (other than his project being a planet destroying super weapon). His downfall ends up being that he doesn't know how to play politics with the senior execs and Tarkin fairly easily out maneuvers him (which is again very relatable). Not surprisingly we have some excellent somewhat similar villians in Andor from the ISB (Dedre Meero being the most prominent example).
