When referring to Endor in ROTJ, Palpatine calls it; The Sanctuary Moon. I believe this is a remnant from an earlier script, and I think the original idea was to have multiple Death Stars orbiting Coruscant, but what was supposed to be on this moon? I assume there was a shield generator, but were there ewoks (or some other primitive lifeforms), living there? Did the original storyline play out the same way as it did in the ROTJ that we saw on screen?
I think the implication in both the original Coruscant script ideas and the final product was that the forest moon was like a forest preserve. Which would be why they felt it was safe to build the Death Star there because no one should actually be there without authorization from the Empire. I always wish we could have seen the Empire mining the moon for materials for the Death Star. Also seeing that the AT-ST's and other equipment are pumping out black smoke everywhere. I think a little worldly preservation vs resource harvesting would have been a nice allegory for ROTJ.
I like the idea of the imperial war machines belching black smoke, but do those things really run on diesel?
The truth of the fuel source is even more dreadful than that. As it turns out, ewoks are extremely combustible.
I haven't read the RotJ novelization in decades, but I seem to recall Han saying something about how cold Endor would get because the Empire was sucking so much energy out of it to run the shield generator. So I think the eco/environment idea was there, but that simple statement doesn't have nearly as much impact as a visual of diesel powered black smoke fuming walkers, rolling coal.

I kinda read it all in a Brooklyn, New York accent, maybe that's what threw me off, or somethin' you know what I'm sayin'? but anyway sanctuary moon...I like the way Palps says it.
Think of it as Han forcing himself way outside his own comfort zone, trying to be an inspirational leader and motivator because he thinks that's what a real general would say and do. Also trying (and failing) to impress Leia with his political astuteness and articularity.
It reads like a Trump speech. That's probably because she thought he was suffering from carbonite related brain damage.
