I'm really happy that they added Bergslagen as its own region, even if it's never been an official region/county and it's very badly defined geographically even today.
Was state control asserted that far north (particularly the interior) in 1444? I thought it was still pretty much Sami land.
In other words the UK is the **** of Europe (only slightly behind Russia I presume). Also what did Finland do to anyone?
"För Sverige - I tiden" is the motto of the current king of Sweden. In 1914, the motto of king Gustaf V was "Med folket för fosterlandet", "With the people for the country".
Luxembourg’s is hilarious. “How do you say ‘Leave us alone’ in a way that sounds like a good motto?” But Norway’s is the funniest, just because it makes it seem like their patriotism is seriously in question. “Yes, we do love this country, now stop asking!”
The irony of Austria's motto is that their demands to the Serbs after the Archduke's assassination was the spark of WWI.
Therefor we had a third one: AEIOU: Austriae est imperare omni universo – Aller Erdkreis ist Österreich untertan. (Austria is to rule the entire world) It seems it didn't work out that way.
Very cool. Reminds me of how most ancient civilizations (like China, Egypt) would often draw maps with "South" pointed up. Even the first Christian/European maps had South up, probably because they copied from Chinese maps. But this changed once Europe entered the age of exploration, and preferred that they were 'on top'. This 'north is up' orientation was kept all the way to current day satellite mapping. So that's what that means! There's an achievement called A.E.I.O.U. in EU4 for completing Austria's mission tree but never looked it up
EU4 is one of the games I bought, started and then never found the time again to play. Maybe now I give it another try if I can find the time.
