I voted no because it's a bad example to set.

If someone makes a cruel or disrespectful joke toward your wife, and you know that it hurt her, then yeah. Go for it.

That isn't what happened here. The joke was lightweight, and her hair loss isn't due to cancer or any disfiguring condition.

Jada doesn't appreciate any teasing at her expense, because she's an icy, entitled narcissist. And Will Smith took what he saw as the chance to rise above his station as an emasculated cuckold... and failed miserably.

Okay, I watched the clip and I seriously doubt Chris Rock meant anything malicious with that joke. I guess I can kinda see why the Smiths would have taken the joke badly...but they should have just let it slide.

Also, Jada doesn't look half bad with a shaved head. I had no idea she was dealing with hair loss, or that it was a sensitive issue for her...but if I had just seen a picture of her like that, I would have assumed she was doing so by choice and I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

Hair is a rather important aspect among the black community, and Chris Rock knows this! He did a movie about it back in 2009. It's fine to acknowledge that the joke wasn't the worst joke in the world, but let's not pretend it's the same as if two white people made a joke about hair.

Glad to know we're downplaying auto-immune disorders because you don't like how one person behaved because of a joke about it. I don't know many people who would've taken a joke about their condition in front of a national audience, no matter how narcissistic they behave in other aspects of their life.

I thought "alopecia" was just a fancy word for hair loss, not a cause of hair loss. It's not an important point, and I don't care, but I'm mentioning it anyway in case I'm right.

    What is alopecia areata?
This is a disease that develops when the body attacks its own hair follicles (where hair grows from), which can cause hair loss anywhere on the body.

Alopecia areata: Alopecia is the medical term for bald. Areata means patchy. This patchy baldness can develop anywhere on the body, including the scalp, beard area, eyebrows, eyelashes, armpits, inside your nose, or ears.

It is, but there are certain types of alopecia which involve your body attacking your own hair follicles because it's misidentified it as a threat, an auto-immune disease. I myself have alopecia areata, the definition which harpua linked above.

No, I don't think so. But I also don't think that what Chris Rock did was okay, either. I think that jokes at other people's expense need to go away, now, unless it's something like a celebrity roast that people have explicitly agreed to. Quit hiring comedians as emcees at these events would be a good start.

It wasn't okay, but it was definitely the culmination of years of abuse that Jada has put him through, psychologically breaking him down to the point where he feels he needs to act up to this level just because of her giving him the side-eye.

We need to focus less on the slap (he's been punished already) and focus more on getting it out there that Jada is a narcissistic POS who is not good for him, period. Will's in the wrong, but it's so obvious how damaged he is. I'm sure Jaden and Willow know it too, why do you think Jaden wanted to move out at 15? Probably very tired of that family drama behind closed doors.

The tl;dr is it’s Jada’s fault. That’s bad enough. The level of detail - well that’s just messed up

Maybe people should be held accountable for their actions, and not blame the woman for the mistakes of her spouse. And it’s not like Will Smith is under threat to stay married to her. Maybe his perception of what was best in that second was proving himself to his wife, but that’s a Will Smith problem, not a Jada problem. The level of detail and villainization in that post is celebrity-fanatic-fantasization levels.

I wish people would just get over this. The slap is insignificant compared to the violence and brutality depicted in the many films produced by the same people who now apparently feel violated by witnessing a single slap and totally pales in significance next to the violence and brutality which is played out in nearly every corner of the globe without all of the calls for restoration and healing. There seems to be less hand wringing over the shooting deaths of children than there is over these two entitled millionaire celebrities having school yard fisticuffs on television.

Actually, isn't Will Smith a scientologist? As far as I know, they don't have divorce.

What on Earth is this? Are we in Bavaria circa 1137 AD? What does being "cuckolded" even mean in an era where blended families are widely accepted--as they should be--and most families have a negative savings rate anyway? Fully acknowledging how terrible it is for a couple when there is infidelity, why should that reflect poorly on their partner? Why should anyone consider that the center of their masculinity? I've only ever seen this get into weird, awful stuff. Why are we propagating these kind of ideas?

Tom Cruise's three ex-wives would probably disagree about that

I've always argued that most people don't actively choose their religious beliefs (or lack there of)
