They think it's everyone, despite their mental health, having guns that can destroy anything in seconds. Well regulated means high profit for their beloved lobbyists. Their mindset is to keep praying while supplying others with the ability to do this. And the argument comes down to being a matter of "this is the sacrifice we pay for being a free country".
Who knows. It's the part they always consciously leave out. A well-regulated militia was basically an official state militia. It was an official organization. Men certainly owned their own muskets, but most of the arms were also kept with the militia. Akin to the national guard, I suppose. And although many men hunted for food, it wasn't meant to be 'every dude is his own militia'. I wonder if there are stories of crazy anti-government loner types who stockpiled muskets 'just in case' back in the early 1800s as we have now. But...besides as a way for the states to keep the federal government in check, there was also the tiny problem of slavery. And how do you expect to keep slaves from running away, if you don't have a gun to threaten them. So I'd imagine that a good deal of our modern 2nd amendment concepts, are actually based around this part of the issue, where every man has to protect his 'property' and can't rely on anyone else to save him, and not the 'keep the government is check' or the 'well-regulated militia' part.
Wait a minute, I thought the cops weren't the ones to blame? Didn't someone tell me several pages ago in this thread that I was "false" when I made the comment about how the cops could've STOPPED THE KILLER BEFORE HE ENTERED THE BUILDING? As I suggested before, if it was a black man who had just looted a convenience store, the cops would be there with trigger-happy fingers on their guns waiting for him outside. I'm just trying to picture the scenario that happened the other day. A young man crashes his car, gets out with an assault rifle on his back ready to enter an elementary school, and the cops are apprehensive about shooting him? Please explain that to me.
Even if for some reason you assume militia means every man is a militia it still says well regulated. I also find it hilarious that many people who are pro gun are also inclined to love authoritarian leaders such as a trump. You can bet your ass that if someone like Trump ever gets dictatorial powers the first 2 things to go would be your right to bear arms and freedom of speech.
If the police do a bad job, they do a bad job and should be held accountable. I think you’re conflating a situation where I said it was disrespectful when the police actually did their jobs well and people here still said **** them. One gun control-esque (though not really) response should be that if we as a society refuse to change gun laws, we need raise the qualifications for entry into the police department and reconstruct the selection process. If people here are going to **** on them for not stopping these shooters AND Abbot wants to praise them as heroes, then let’s make them actual operators. But both sides would say no: -The Left would say no because it would be giving the police departments more money for training and equipment. -The Right would say no because if we judged police officers by the same standards, physically, morally, and mentally as we do say… Army Rangers, we’d have to fire more than half of the fat and less sharp cowards we have in the police force now.
Most successful authoritarian regimes disarm their populaces and silence criticism. At first, it’s to stop the opposition and his supporters would be happy, but he’d eventually turn it towards anyone who disagreed with him on anything.
Fair enough; and considering if he won in 2024, he'd really have nothing to lose. The second term is usually when these POTUSes take their gloves off without any regrets.
When is the NRA event that Trump is supposed to speak at? I hope protesters outside show up in force and cause a riot.
Isn't this literally also the solution Ted Cruz and the GOP were calling for like just...yesterday. That schools should only have one access door, that the entire school would could be locked, but cops would get through...somehow.
Most successful authoritarian regimes are happy to have their most fervent supporters going around armed.
Republitards will use the "the left is politicizing" and "they are reacting emotionally" and "this is not the right time-why can't we just let the poor families mourn", etc. JUST to gaslight those that want change. They know DAMN well that if they delay and make people feel guilty for wanting action, people will "forget" (more like just give up) and then it's time to move on until the next tragedy.
The GOP "almost" took over the government and installed a dictator, all without any guns. If they were to actually succeed in doing so in the future, I'd expect less gun restrictions post dictatorship, not more. And the reason is, is because the 2nd amendment - while seen a symbol of freedom and rugged individualism - has always been used as a tool for oppression, keeping the status quo, and for those at the top to keep their power. Keeping slaves in check. Going after freed slaves post civil war. Creating police departments (is that considered a well-regulated militia?) to round up immigrants, black people, poor people, women etc etc. Hell, you'd probably get official MAGA Militias, sanctioned and deputized by Trump himself, roaming the Authoritarian States of America looking to round up anyone not in the club.
My reaction to all that is that if you don’t have some kind of emotional reaction to children being gunned down in a classroom, you either have a disability of some sorts that keeps you from having normal emotions, or you’re a grade A ***hole. So why wouldn’t “the left” “react emotionally” and why is that bad? As far as the Second Amendment, it was put in place to make it easier to slaughter indigenous people and take their land, and then to keep slaves in line. Had nothing to do with overthrowing a “tyrannical government,” and the colonists would have failed spectacularly if the French had not hated the British so much that they were willing to step in and help.
The Police have never been as heavily armed and militarized as they are now, I would argue. Even small town police forces are getting military surplus equipment and armoring up with heavy assault vehicles and weapons. And yet this isn't even the first time this has happened with the police failing to actually confront a mass shooter. More training, sure. But the police having bigger guns and bigger equipment has only made them more deadly when they shouldn't be while remaining less effective when they should be.
@DarkGingerJedi Yes it is as apparently Ted Cruz must think every school in America is one room school house. I mean it would be impossible at a school the size of Anakinfansince1983 teaches but can you imagine trying to have one set of doors at the school for a school like I am or Jedijax where we have a couple thousand kids each day? It's honestly comical to think about on top of being utterly insane. Our pep rallies are typically at the end of the day as we need to end them just before the last period bell goes off so kids can catch their buses and it's chaotic now. Imagine if they were all trying to funnel thru one set of doors. Our PE Department is also laughing their heads off about it since again Ted does not understand that our gym classes each period are hundreds and hundreds of kids and when it's nice out, the teachers like to take them outside. Imagine if they all had to go all thru one door instead of multiple ones like they do now or if the class(es) that are playing tennis in the back courts instead of taking a door that leads them right out there has to go thru the one entrance at the front of the door and walk all the way around the bleeping school. And speaking of Ted, he does not like when reporters ask how come we are the only country that deals with this: Too bad our reporters won't ask questions like that though to be fair, some will which of course Ted avoids like the plague. How messed up do you have to be in order to see a room full of dead kids by gun violence YET AGAIN and all you can think about is how much you think America is exceptional? These people are messed up and honestly I am done trying to reason or even deal with them. To hell with them....all of them! @anakinfansince1983 As it has pointed out time and time time again the second amendment also the right to bear arms was going to "well regulated". Ummmmm when does that start? To be honest, I given up on gun control as it's never going to happen ever so at this point I will just take a national push for mental health as while it won't fix the main problem (guns obviously), it will help some. But again the GOP will never move on that as well. Governor Big Wheel and his crazy insane racist bigot POS Lt. Governor yesterday had the nerve to say it was mental health just as their budget cut $220 million in mental health services. Shameless. It is their superpower no doubt along with projection. And meanwhile, who didn't see this coming:
Cruz whines that women and LGBTQ serve in the U.S. military. The Independent - Ted Cruz under fire for using anti-gay slur as he continues attacks on US military advert (2021) He hates everyone that is not straight cis white and male. Which is most of America, therefore Ted Cruz hates America. His 'belief' in American exceptionalism is just convenient for guns.
