Seeing Obi Wan be burned was probably a catharsis for Vader that he didn't want to cut off that very moment by ending Obi Wan's life.

For me the issue was that it looked so fake that it was confusing—honestly, my initial thought was whether Obi-Wan was hallucinating again, since we had already been shown him hallucinating once before.

While I quite like the show (it's the only Star Wars show that I've been able to watch since RoTS as "entertainment" instead of "homework"), I think a real issue with it is that some scenes are shot in a way that is unclear and can be confusing for a minute. Another scene that confused me was when Obi-Wan suddenly has a "headache" when he and Leia were about to enter the tunnel—my initial thought was whether Obi-Wan had a fear of tunnels (something akin to claustrophobia?) for some reason in his past (I spent a good while trying to recall such a possible incident!) and it took at least a minute until I understood that that reaction was caused by the presence of Vader. There was also an instance in episode 2 where Haja says that there's only one way into the sewers but Obi-Wan won't be able to get in there, then Obi-Wan steps super easily into a chemical lab and is already pretty much where Leia is? A part of the audience honestly being confused about whether or not Vader intentionally did not take further steps against Obi-Wan after letting him be burnt is another of these points of confusion that can be frustrating for the viewer.

I guess that makes sense if he sees himself as a predator chasing prey. Otherwise he would have just captured him and tortured him.

IMO the first half of the episode was kind of cringe, a few things came off as Awkard or on the nose, but it picked up a lot in the second half.
Call me crazy but I actually liked Leia more than Ben at some parts here, I understand Obi's not in his best state right now, but he seems a little too impatient and short sighted at a few points. For example: Its logical he wouldn't completely trust their contact but just the way he pretty much gives up the moment they arrive felt a bridge to far.

I also kind of agree with Sarge's critic that having three Storm Troopers capture them after Ben easily defeated more felt weak. Yes, he lacked the element of surprise that time which explains it, but would it have been too hard to add a couple extra soldiers to the scene?

They seem to be really blatantly dancing around the Grand Inquisitors fate, I can see they want the show to be kind of self-contained but having Vader Cut the Third Sister off like that basically sounded like as far as they are concerned, he is dead, but for the purposes of the larger canon he can be salvaged to better align with Rebels. I don't much care for the Inq's in general, and I don't hate having them "killed off;)" for the purposes of the show so people who only watch live action don't feel obligated to watch the other series, but it kind of feels like they're flaunting their liberty with the characters here in a way that seems kind of arrogant? Not sure if that's the best word for it, just the first that came to mind.

And in a real nitpicky kind of way, seeing Vader on a throne just feels weird.

But from there on out it takes a step up, not perfect by any means but I certainly felt more invested.
Ok to be fair I really did like hearing Ben's thoughts on family and thinking of his own. It was a well-earned callback to Leia's ruminations on her mother in ROTJ and basically confirms her memories are a reflection of the force working through her, as if it wasn't obvious enough already, but it worked for the scene.
I hope his calling out to Qui-gon is setting up a major intervention by his Master at some point, not sure how it would go down but the only reason I can think of for them to still not be communicating is if they have plans for Qui-Gon to do something pretty epic to save the day.

The Quinlen Cameo was also pretty cool, and I kind of hope that gets a payoff to cause he's been hanging in limbo forever. Maybe Obi's old friend sacrifices himself so Ben can escape?

Vader definitely seems slightly less controlled than ANH but that makes sense for where he is at in the timeline, the lightsabers themselves looked a little off but the duel itself worked very well and the fiery end was magnificent as Vader wanting to make Obi-Wan suffer as he did definitely fit his mindset. (Though there really is no reason he couldn't have used the force to stop the droid saving Obi-Wan if he wanted to, maybe he wants to play with his food more but the way it was framed made it seem very stupid).

Leia being captured is a good plot hanger, though less for her own sake and more how Ben will react. We know they both make it out of it, but I am still very excited for next week just to see how the story picks up from there. How anti-climactic would it be if Vader just told the third sister to bring Leia back to Bail and hunt Obi-Wan on their own? Not likely I'm guessing, but the longer Leia stays in conflict with the Empire here the more I have to wonder how she manages to become an Imperial Senator and how Bail manages to live until ANH. Cause there really is no logical way Ben could have known she was kidnapped unless the Organa's had a way to contact him.

Reading this thread reminds me why I don't like reading these threads. "I've loved Star Wars since 1977 but this is the worst Star Wars content ever!" "Hayden Christensen was awful in the prequels. He didn't get Vader right." "I've studied Vader's movements." LO bleeping L

Give it a rest folks. The OT had campy as hell parts and was full of mistakes. Vader v Obi-Wan in ANH was a couple of inexperienced actors sword fighting. Not very enticing at all. In the prequels Hayden played the script and direction he was given by Lucas. What's with the hate for him? Enjoy it for what it is and give all the back seat direction and starbucks script writing a rest.

The Ep 3 fight was great. Very emotional. Which is the most important thing in a dual. And frankly, more impactful than almost anything in recent years,

The ‘camera’ very much lingered on Vader and the fire. I’m just not sure what exactly they were trying to convey though? Vader’s reluctance to go near the fire(please no) or was he relishing the pain Obi-Wan was in? These confusing little moments take me out of the show a little bit.

A little off topic but what's the in-universe explanation for why Obi-Wan disappeared when he faced off with Vader in ANH? Back in the early 80's when I was a little kid I assumed that Jedi disappeared when they were killed. Then when I was older I assumed that Obi-Wan disappeared because Lucas didn't want to show Obi-Wan's dead body in a kids movie. Now I guess I'm thinking that Obi-Wan chose to become one with the Force like Luke in TLJ?
