I am starting to think it may have been better as a movie.

Wow what an awesome episode - best of the series, 10/10.

Dart Vader was at his ultimate best and the fire scene was amazing,

I don't think that was the last light saber duel between them , I expect another more epic one in the episode 6 finale.

I think the TV format looks good enough for the most part, but since I prefer a focus on narrative and characterization, TV is usually superior to film these days, sadly.

Did anyone else notice that one scene in the duel was almost identical to this classic Ralph McQuarrie painting?

Dude! I don’t want to be rude, but I’ve got to say you’re unbelievably negative man. I completely disagree with every single one of your criticisms about the show. Are you actually being serious? Maybe let go of some of that negativity you might actually enjoy it.

I think this at least rests on the assumption that Obi-Wan gets somewhat permanently injured as a consequence of the fire, so that Vader gets to watch him suffering a similar fate as Vader did. Otherwise, if Obi-Wan is not even injured yet, why is Vader letting him go when the similarities haven't gone far enough? But at the same time the audience knows that Obi-Wan has no visible permanent burn marks in ANH (perhaps there are some under his clothing, but certainly not in obvious locations), so it's confusing why Vader lets Obi-Wan go before the similarities really start to set in.

Something really frustrating about this show is the frequency with which the Empire's officers keep letting Obi-Wan and co. go. We know that the main characters survive, but letting them survive because of the bad guys' internal bickering and walking away at inopportune moments doesn't make anyone look good, it just shows everyone performing at a subpar level. I feel bad to say this, but if the "difficulty level" that Obi-Wan and co. face were compared to the difficulty level of a game, it honestly feels like a game on easy level...

Is this the first time we’ve heard of Kenobi’s brother?

It was interesting hearing Obi-Wan mention leaving his family behind. How much of that is a child’s choice? How consensual can that be? It would be cool to see SW dig into that. I’d love to see somebody point out how ethically shaky that is.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. While I don't have the overwhelmingly negative "cheap production" attitude that some have, neither am I on the these are the greatest episodes I have ever seen train. It's a series that fills the gap in between ROTS and ANH, with some significant characters. I've already posted about what would make any of these episodes significantly memorable to me.

Ben doesn’t really want to fight Vader at all, and he’s been out of action for so long. Which I think puts their duel from ANH into more perspective.

I do sincerely feel sorry for anyone who feels like what for me are nothing more than small warts on an otherwise insightful, visually interesting, exciting and valuable Star Wars experience to become mountains. I can’t imagine being so driven by perfectionism and so consistently saddened, disappointed and mad. The criticisms that are being most often shared often feel fairly pedantic and petty to me and almost rooted in a Lucas or Prequel era protectionism that I can’t wrap my head around. Same with the Reva criticisms. Nothing she’s done warrants anywhere near the anger that’s been shown toward her. At the very least she’s merely an adequate member of the dark side force trying to stop Kenobi and his peers. At her best she’s as ambitious as Krennic with several other qualities and impulses reminiscent of Anakin. The amount of hate for her is truly absurd to me. Letting a 30 second foot chase scene involving a Skywalker child ruin an entire episode was strange enough but if this Episode didn’t have you in any way entertained or optimistic about what the main course of this series could be… then our two sensibilities are unfortunately too different to reconcile. I get being protective of Star Wars but this (it’s 0 out of 10 if it’s not 10 out of 10)mindset scares me as much as Vader himself. I feel fortunate to be ignorant/gullible/naive/easier to please or whatever other descriptor is most apt for why I enjoy this so much.

Are you serious? It was at 71% BEFORE the media shone a spotlight on them about the racism. It’s like they mobilized worldwide after that to review bomb further. Insanity.

Maybe you don't need to take other people's opinions about Star Wars content personally. We all have different standards. I think the franchise is being mismanaged and shoddily written. There are many others who feel like that. Good for you that you like it! You don't need to defend it. Frankly, I believe the compulsion to leap to its defense shows that you know it's subpar.

In this series, Anakin is 32-ish, still in his prime, even for a cyborg. Ben is like 48, definitely past his better days. Even if he were still on the council, I doubt he'd spend most of his days lightsaber fighting. And by ANH, Anakin is 42-ish, and Ben is almost 58. Both are now past their primes, although Vader's robot body gives him strength.

There's more confidence in Ben by ANH too. He's not afraid nor impressed by what Anakin has become. He knows Anakin is weaker and less powerful and still dealing with the same ol **** he always had.

I feel like this is one of the only honest posts I have read in here...

This show feels fan made. There have been multiple times I have seen characters run through the same sets, and come around a corner from a standing start. The "volume" is just another way for them to be lazy. When you watch Game of Thrones/ Stranger Things/ Deadwood/ Breaking Bad etc etc etc you can feel the budget!

Each town we enter feels like a set where the background characters have been told to do one thing. "You poor water. You sweep. You clean." This world does not feel lived in at all.

Bad acting, horrible dialogue, terrible plot choices, and one of the most anticlimactic meetings between characters that should have been amazing. Way to drop the ball!

There are some very good moments, but then they are killed by bad ones.

    5/10 for this latest episode.

I don’t take it personally. My point is that I can’t wrap my head around the hate. I understood why the sequels were as divisive as they were and why they angered. Even if I didn’t share all of those same opinions the primary criticisms were more easy for me to wrap my head around as significant. The main criticisms here so far seem to be that the Leia chase stuff was too childish and Phantom Menace-like, Reva isn’t intimidating enough for some, and that the budget doesn’t feel as high as some other premium streaming shows. Those factors to me feel significant enough to maybe knock a couple points off. But do they make something truly horrible? Less than 5 out of 10? That’s what I can’t reconcile.

I loved every second of this episode. The cherry on the top would be the use of some of the recognisable music from the movies, particularly when we see Vader or Leia. The use of lietmotifs would really elevate this show into the stratosphere and make it feel closer to the movies. 9/10
