I could have overlooked that, because we know Stormtroopers have a reputation for incompetence, but in the very previous episode they were sending out wanted holo-posters with Obi-wan's face! Like, I guess the troopers have been ignoring their daily briefings, which is understandable, but the plot just feels too jumpy when these things pile up.

First time post in many years, but this episode had me so excited for Star Wars again. For me, it was even better second time around.

I feel like I couldn't watch the 6 original movies back to back without having to watch this in-between 3 and 4 from now on. It's that good.

Movies these days all have to have a part 2 and a part 3, star wars episode 3 really deserved to be expanded on like this.

It just makes everything fit together so perfectly. And I think they did a great job with Leia as a child. Spot on for her character

Obi Wan looks a little worse for wear than whatever Clone Wars era headshot they might have had of him.

Yeah, kids are cool like that. They don’t take themselves so serious. Like thinking their score of an episode of a Star Wars show on a Star Wars message board is super serious business.

i guess the answer to my question was in the credits. They did use respeecher to do the voice, same as they did for Luke in BOBF. James Earl Jones is credited as well, so I guess they had him record the dialogue and then somehow augment it with respeecher.

    Hello everyone ☺️
Well this show brought me back to the boards, not surprising, given my love for the titular character.

First, what surprised me is how broken Obi-Wan is. Although his brokenness is understandable after everything that he has been through, this is not the hope inspiring Kenobi of the OT. He’s almost dead inside and is completely defeated, his only mention of a possible future is to Owen when he reminds him of the promise to one day train Luke. The character has always been somewhat of a pessimist, but… man. I wonder what caused the hopeful shift we see ten years later.

Owen: I’m glad they added something to his portfolio. He’s still a grouch, but we see what kind of man he is when he stands up to the Third Sister (). He risked his life for a man whom he doesn’t even like because it’s the right thing to do. True grit, I like it .

Vader: Although, IMO, they’re portraying Kenobi as weaker than I would like him to be, the whole Vader/Kenobi sequence was beautifully done. You can feel Vader’s hatred and Obi-Wan’s heartache. And, of course, the fire was a great touch. I feel that this Vader is the Vader we see in TESB. The threats and throat crushing, classic Vader.

I expected the Vader/Kenobi dynamic to carry the series for me; however, surprisingly, it’s not. It’s the relationship between Kenobi and Leia. Leia’s intuition, even at such a young age, is remarkable. She already has the ability to offer one of her brutally famous comebacks. Perfect. When she asks Kenobi if he is her father his answer broke my heart. She wonders about Anakin and somehow knows that Ben knew her mother, heart breaking . And, then, Anakin shows up that very night. The daughter he had wanted, so close, but lost to him again.

I can’t wait for the next few weeks.

Whether you go for it or not, Stormtroopers have been consistently dim-witted and poor at shooting in favor of the protagonists since ANH onward. So it is hardly a flaw unique to the Kenobi series. I think a lot of people view the OT through rose tinted glasses.

That's awesome! Totally sounded like either Empire Strikes Back or Return Of The Jedi Vader! They will probably have to come up for something with Yoda like that in the cartoons because Tom Kane ,had a major stroke had to retire can hardly talk but has all his mental faculties just has trouble talking.

I just saw this also! Amazing news! Considering Ewan wanted it and Hayden is game and the views have been high and critics like it and there’s so much untold story potential for the time period I love it. They could even skip forward 5 years and give him the white hair and do the live action versus Darth Maul among other things.

I love the show but I think they might be a little greedy with a S2. The main draw to S1 was the “rematch of the century”. They wouldn’t be able to do that with a S2 and there’s only so much to do with Obi before you start breaking canon continuity.

I think they should lean into Rebels a bit and do a mini version of the Maul arc. Have Kenobi’s hair more white, skip the stuff with Ezra but begin with Maul surviving and wanting revenge. Cut to Maul looking for him. Skip the crossover Ezra stuff. Skip the Vader and Ahsoka scene. Just simplify it. Maybe have a new inquisitors scene opposite Maul that involves Reva. They want to hunt Maul also. Maybe have some drama occurring on Tatooine also that threatens the Lars homestead but maybe just let us also spend some time with teen Luke some more. See how his life was. Cut to teen Leia being rebellious now and then and becoming more active in the Rebellion. Honesty, a sizable number of people just love spending time with these characters in live action. Even if the second season isn’t as great as the first it could still be fun.

I'd be in favor of Maul in a second season too --unless more Vader-- but hasn't Kennedy promised that there would be zero overlap between live action and animation? I seem to remember something like that.

Hey, here's a thought; Maul vs Vader. It needs to happen at some point, might as well happen during Obi-Wan season 2.

I don't know why they're being so cheeky about the Grand Inquisitor, with the Third Sister's sentence that had one word like "death" or "incapacitation" to go before Vader cut her off. I think he's clearly alive, because having an identical twin or him being a clone or something would be just dumb, and they won't break canon to that degree.

Interesting that the Fifth Brother stopped the Third Sister from butting in on Vader's revenge.

I've said before I think the reason they're being coy about GI is because they want the series to stand on its own, so people who only watch live action don't feel obligated to watch other series to understand what's going on.

If the Fifth brother shares a similar fate by the end of the series it will be confirmed, and while I think the motive is understandable, the way they went about it is a little to cheeky for my taste.

It would be amazing if they could incorporate Yoda into S2. Imagine if Yoda convened with Kenobi that there was a young child from Yoda’s homeworld and a nephew of his who was captured during Order 66. The child, Grogu, is being held at a facility and the two of them could secure him if they work together. Eventually, Grogu’s location is changed but the two of them run into the Emperor directly and have to face him 2 on 1.

After rewatching, I have a question. Not sure if it was previously discussed in here. If Leia had a head start in the underground tunnel, how did Reva beat her to the end and have time to kill the pilot? Assuming there was another tunnel that branched out of the original one?

I've heard that the majority of viewers for Kenobi haven't watched Rebels, so making it seem like the GI is dead would create more interest for them. For those who have seen Rebels, the writers may just likely leave things ambiguous so his death is never clearly established.

They seem to be intentionally creating ambiguity for a reason like this.

The more I think about why they took him out, the more I think it's probably so Vader has a better narrative reason to take the lead and so the Third Sister doesn't feel outdone by a member of her own specific faction. But yea, the writing for it is just a little obnoxious IMO, like they want people to argue about that detail.

I think they're willing to lightly retcon comics and books even if they're post-Disney, but even then they included a decent amount from the Kanan comic into the first episode of Bad Batch even if those characters weren't in it, and the GI's death would matter way more than that. The most they've changed from the animated shows is just aesthetic details, I wouldn't even call them retcons as much as translations to live action, so I would be extremely surprised if they're basically saying Rebels isn't canon when Sabine and probably Ezra are due to appear in live action soon.

Seems a little cheap but I guess I could see that. The Third Sister getting cut off though before she could state his condition rubbed me the wrong way.
