I think Kennedy is simply much more into the TV side of things now, and movies aren’t a priority.

The Waititi SW logo is highly suggestive.

I'm not sure there's any reason to get jammed up over Waititi not being ready in time for release next year. His film never even had an official release date, so expecting him to accelerate his schedule when it was clear Rogue Squadron was going to be delayed or shelved never made much sense to me. I'm going to guess 2025 remains the general target.

Anyway, it's not as if we've been starved of Star Wars live action storytelling lately, and 2023 and 2024 will still have plenty on the series schedule.

The only show that’s reached the levels of hype of a theatrical film for me was Obi-Wan Kenobi. That’s not to say I haven’t been excited for each show but there’s just something special about a Star Wars film in theaters that I don’t get from streaming. Films will always be more important to me.

Agreed. It's a completely different build-up, a completely different viewing experience, and a completely different post-release conversation. To say nothing of a larger scope and scale (a distinction that's palpable even in the bigger, flashier episode of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi).

Rut row roege rucus. Thor isn’t getting perfect reviews. What’s the over under on Tiaka getting dropped from his Star Wars movie?

Actually Tiaka’s experience with directing Mandalorian episodes means he has an actual successful Star Wars track record so he probably ok.

    Im looking forward to Thor.

I feel like this Rolling Stone interview is the most Waititi has said about the movie in one sitting (a whopping three questions!):

Thor Love and Thunder is getting some pretty bad reviews. I always had a feeling this is what was really going on.

These are also the best comments he's made so far. He still makes me very nervous, but I like these comments.

It currently has a 72%. That's not "pretty bad." That's "fine." That's a rate of nearly 3/4 of critics liking the films. This isn't grade school, where that counts as a C-, this is Rotten Tomatoes, where the reviews have a completely binary Like/Dislike relationship with the score. It's like saying that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness got bad reviews, since it's in the same ballpark, and that movie seems to be considered a pretty rousing success across the board.

You have this incredibly frustrating habit of filtering every bit of info you process into "this may be the worst thing to have ever happened." Like, what is it that you think is "really going on"? That Lucasfilm is going to give Waititi the boot over mixed reviews on one film that's probably going to make nearly $1 billion?

I would take a Jar Jar Binks movie after ROTJ as he redeems himself for his failures. The galaxy blames him for making Palpatine surpreme chancellor. And get flashbacks to his time as senator under Empire's reign.:p

I may be assuming too much, but it almost sounds like the deeper he gets into writing, the more clearly defined an idea he has as to which elements have to be included for it to be "Star Wars" and not "Star Wars in name only." Hopefully he strikes that balance between originality and familiarity, but I guess he has to get past Kennedy's approval process first.

I either want a Jar Jar film or I'm also going to lean completely into the classic "Artier Than ****ing Thou" thing and insist that the only way a new Star Wars film can be truly great is if it does not resemble Star Wars, does not repeat any soundtrack cues, has absolutely nothing recognizable and possibly doesn't even reference "Star Wars" in its title.

My new preferred marathon order is:
    Episode 1: The Phantom Menace
    No Country For Old Men
Episode 2: Attack of the Clones
    The Clone Wars: Seasons 1-5
    The Wire: Season 1
    The Clone Wars: Seasons 6-7
Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
    Nosferatu
I Dream of Jeannie: Season 2
    Obi Wan Kenobi: Season 1
    Solo: A Star Wars Story
    Bowling For Columbine
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    Episode 4: STAR WARS
Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back
    Both Ewok Films
    Basketball Diaries
Episode 6: Return of the Jedi
    The Mandolorian: Seasons 1-2
    TBOBF: Season 1
    Gandhi
    Episode 7: The Force Awakens
    Episode 8: The Last Jedi
    The Passion of the Christ
Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker

Its getting not perfect reviews? Well then Waititi can’t direct a Star Wars movie. Every Star Wars movie ever made received completely positive reviews from everyone, I don’t want Waititi messing up Star Wars’s perfect track record.

It only has 100 reviews as of now so it’ll drop much further. Also, every interview with him sounds like he went through a bad experience and isn’t looking forward to returning to the Disney machine any time soon, imo.

I don’t agree with his mentality of “can’t please the fans”. Of course there will always be a portion (even very small) of fanboys whom dislike a Star Wars movie.

But a movie made right, written well, perhaps kept far away from the divisive ST, I truly believe most of the fans would love it.

Just look at The Mandalorian as an example. Would I say it’s perfect? Are there some fans whom dislike it? I’m sure, but generally speaking us fans enjoy it.

Why? Because he forgot for a moment that Natalie had been in films made two decades ago? I thought it was actually pretty funny.
