Spoiler: trailer BENTHIC! The Tognath are one of my favorite alien designs, so I'm so happy to see one of them again here, along with Saw and crew.
I stand corrected. Ah, well, I'm happy to have a little bit more space between the debuts of Rings of Power, House of the Dragon, She-Hulk, Lower Decks and Andor anyways. And it'll be a nice Sci-fi ride to break things up between the fantasy-heavy Aug/early Sept and the (presumed) launch of Willow in Nov.
Spoiler Wow that is pretty. Frankly, I have been impressed in general with star wars show visuals, but this really seems movie quality. I especially love that it looks like we are getting more space scenes by the looks of it. The political intrigue part of it looks pretty interesting as well. I saw someone else make the observation that we are seeing more open faced imperial troops in this and less stormtroopers than usual, and I do wonder if there is a thematic reason for that or if the makers of this show are just WEG fans. Certainly that one ship we see crashing in another trailer and entering an atmosphere here has a very WEG look to it. Forest Whitaker really likes playing Saw I believe.
I suppose she could, although I'm not aware of any reason to think that she will. Meanwhile, Spoiler I thought sure the blonde female ISB agent was going to turn out to be Alecia Beck, an antagonist who appeared once or twice in early new canon stories. There's a fairly strong resemblance, but in fact it's not her - the subtitles identify the person in the trailer as "Dedra Meero." Would have been a nice connection as Beck was almost certainly active in ISB during this period, but alas.
Spoiler Well Beck and Tolvan can be clones of an imperial Donor like Dedra Meero.. or one of them is the original that donated in their youth and the others are clones.
I wonder...who is Stellan Skarsgard's character? Is he a senator? Is he a noble? What role did he have in the Clone Wars? He'll be fascinating to see. I also wonder: Spoiler Will there be a reference to the Lothal rebels since they started to become active around that sector in 5 BBY, depending when they recruited Ezra in that calendar year.
For anyone interested, and in particular those wondering if Stellan Skarsgård's character is Garm Bel Iblis, turning on the video's subtitles on YouTube reveals the name of whoever is speaking. New character names revealed in the subtitles include: Spoiler Luthen (The Skarsgård character, who isn't Bel Iblis but may be playing a similar role) Sgt. Linus Mosk (guy in a blue non-Imperial uniform with wicked sideburns) Dedra Meero (blonde woman in ISB uniform) Kleya (may be some sort of aide to Luthen) Tay Kolma (associate of Mon Mothma, may be a Senator)
Spoiler The Arrestor as a kind of hardcore tractor ship is pretty fun. I hope we see TIE Brutes and TIE Strikers in this.
Saw Guerra is too Extremist and not a politician. To be that legends character. Luthen fits him better.
Spoiler Seeing the Imperial Senate makes me hope for an appearance by Mas Amedda. Also, Luthen Rael's laugh at 1:37 sounded a lot like a Palpatine cackle to me. I actually had to backtrack to make sure it wasn't ol' Sheev .
Garm Bel Iblis does exist in canon according to Wookieepedia. And I still consider him the Corellian senator during the Clone Wars.
To the surprise of no one, it turns out Wookieepedia's "canon Garm Bel Iblis" is sourced from one of those sketchy DeAgostini magazines where they throw canon and Legends information together without differentiating between the two, and Wookieepedia for some reason just treats it all as if it's canon. Ugh. Gives me a headache, that site does. It's up to you if you want to take the Wook's word for it, but personally I'd wait for a legit canon source to reference the character before assuming he exists in canon.
