I still say King of the Monsters is the best “monster fight” film of the Legendary films, while Skull Island is the best blend of human and monster story together, largely because they have Sam a Jackson playing an actually interesting human antagonist for both Kong and the other humans.

I think it would have worked better of this Kong made the weapon, somehow, so that it would feel like a genuine “brains vs brawn” moment for him rather than “find granddad’s stick and use it” moment.

I can’t associate any Kong as big as he is with the ‘33 or even Peter Jackson Kong. Once he soars over so many buildings, we’re dealing with a different character concept, really.

    Yes it is.
    Yes it is.
    Yes it is.

And making Ghidorah an invasive species Omega predator, and Godzilla a nature balancing Alpha predator is genius. It adds purpose to their rivalry, besides just "Who's the toughest?".

King Kong Live-Action Series in Early Development at Disney+

    https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/king-kong-live-action-series-disney-plus-1235348772/

Totally unrelated to the current MonsterVerse iteration, or any other on-screen iteration. I know the King Kong rights are a little wonky - which is why the WB/Legendary MonsterVerse stuff is only able to call him Kong and not King Kong - but, I thought they still flat out owned the character. I guess there must be some loophole that allows Disney to be doing this...

Is there any IP that isn't causing Conglomerate Mortal Kombat right now?

    Warner Kong vs Disnezilla!

Amazon vs Embracer: Who is the true LORD of the rings?

Art imitates life. Or the other way around.

I'm just glad this GvK sequel isn't centered around a rematch. Their fight in Hong Kong was as close to perfect as can be.

Godzilla, Mothra, & King Ghidorah: All Out Monsters Attack is the actual best film in this series and genre.

I mean, there's no wrong answer. All those listed are great. Frankenstein Conquers the World is a good one as well.

Does anyone fine it kind of ironic that while actual Godzilla films are always good, shows where they try to have Godzilla-sized characters fight one another in a city for an episode or two are almost always terrible*?

*Looking at you, Legend of Korra Season 2.

    Yes, because Godzilla won. :)
Correct. If Godzilla is in it, then it's the best movie. :)

Having never seen the old Kong vs. Godzilla. For years I wondered how that was even a fight. King Kong is really just a very large gorilla. His strength proportionally increased with his size. He’s intelligent, but it’s questionable if he’s actually more intelligent than a regular gorilla.

Then their is Godzilla who can level cities and breath fire.

So massive upscaling King for strength, size and intelligence was the only way to make him a challenge for Godzilla.
Watching King Kong, Son of Kong, and Mighty Joe Young. Three movies all overseen to some extent by Marian C. Cooper and sharing cast members; there is a larger story arc there which could make a compelling series if Joe Young is looked as Son of Kong.

Who is playing the personification of Merian C. Cooper.

It interesting the Peter Jackson Kong focuses on the screen writer. The original focuses on the movie director / showman / adventurer Robert Armstrong plays as the protagonist with a persona larger than Kong. He’s really a showman even to the audience and I’m not sure how sympathetic he is. It’s more selling the adventure to the viewer while the film is happening.

John Hammond in the film Jurassic Park is similar but has a softer side, especially when faced with the failure and consequences of his action. (Also the plot of the movie is visitors sent to the park to judge if Hammond’s plan is sound.)

Hammond is also a lot like Scrooge McDuck. He’s got great bravado until facing a setback and deeply feels the defeat but in defeat finds some glimmer of hope that he can grab hold of to get back on his feet.

A King Kong series could work with a lead character like that. Event to have the character actively on screen selling the series for a few episodes before showing deeper nuance.
