"Crap" has been kicking around for a while too, not sure where it was first used though. I know some made-up swear words sound kriffing silly, but personally I hope Star Wars rarely if ever crosses the "swear barrier." Curses stronger than "hell" or "damn" are something the franchise has famously tended to stayed away from, and frankly that's always been somewhat refreshing in the modern film/TV environment (where even Star Trek shows now routinely drop f-bombs). I realize why the writers may have felt it necessary for the dark and gritty tone of Andor, but here's hoping future films and series keep the potty mouth mostly stowed in the cargo bay and employ it only when necessary.
Just in case but we now know the flashback is before the clone wars. So Maarva was right when named the Republic. Spoiler
Huh, interesting. I saw a lot of speculation on that plot point, but I didn't see anyone guess this, yet it still makes sense in retrospect. Still makes me curious about the full story of what happened, especially if the frigate showing up afterwords shot down the gas ship, was its escort, or just a random patrol responding to a distress beacon. ....come to think of it, if this is a pre-sepratist plot, maybe the frigate is a banking clan frigate.
A great episode, setting up a lot of world-building and the emerging political intrigue. Spoiler Plenty of Easter eggs for fans. Namedrops of planets including Ghorman, Plexis, Eufornis Major, Hosnian Prime, and Sev Tok. We get to see Mon Mothma's husband, who appears to be an Imperial sympathiser. And guests invited to his dinner party include the Governor of Hanna, Sly Moore, and - most surprising of all - Ars Dangor. I'd tag Jello, but it feels like poor form on a spoiler tagged post!
Spoiler Absolutely adore how perfect the Ghorman line is. It's so minor, but lays the seeds of the unrest that leads to the eventual Ghorman Massacre, which finally drives Mon Mothma out of the Senate.
I am in speechless shock, love of the beauty of this episode and the references... in life action... Oh my... if this is just the shows beginning, I dread what it may lead to! Will it kill me with sheer awesomeness and epic beauty?
Yeah, so many little details to dissect from this episode! Spoiler Seeing the ISB HQ in live action is just eerie and awesome. Likewise the Mortis hands (though, obviously, not the Lothal ones due to the timeline here) and reference to Ghorman in particular. Sly Moore and Ars as well. And Rakata! And Luthen is now 2/3 in BPE (Bastards Per Episode), though I'd like to believe he was at least thinking the word in the first episode he appeared in . The whole antiques sequence is the real stand out, though all of the ISB scenes kick too. And our Corpo has gone home to mama (presumably not Coruscant but rather elsewhere on the main corporate planet?). Mon Mothma's speeder was also gorgeous. Though it is interesting that there were no Kenari flashbacks, so I guess that won't be a constant element in the series (even if they may return to it later on). Oh, and it sounds like they're building Scarif Base at the moment .
yes and even know its probably not a reference to her I took luthen mentioning a sun goddess sharing a mouth with a serpent as one to our beloved queen of stars
The goddess face in the circe is surrounded by WBW-esque lines and starpath mural style we know from other Mortis stuff, Force Priestesses cave background and likewise depictions in other sources!!! So if this goddess is connected to any celestial, Mortis/WBW stuff... it has to be her! And the circle and stuff surrounding her head are slightly angled, shaped like a Vortex...
Abrupt ending aside, this was an excellent episode. Spoiler "I know you'll die fighting these bastards." Empire-era Coruscant! And it is a grey hive of paranoia. The Rakata mention was smart. Loved the TIEs suddenly turning up too. Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector Charisma Void finds out exactly how badly he screwed up. The ISB is a snakepit and Anton Lesser is the chief serpent. Superb stuff.
One thing I really enjoyed: Spoiler according to Cassian, the Seperatists are still around. Sounds like he may have fought alongside some on Mimban.
Spoiler Interesting that when Cassian was rattling off words to describe Luthen, he mentioned the Alliance. What alliance? The Alliance to Restore the Republic has yet to be founded, is there another pre-Rebel alliance that exists publicly in this era?
Spoiler Syril Karn is a weirdly interesting character. Like, .... what? I don't even.... And I'm loving the crap out of it.
Spoiler 90% certain she's talking about Bail, although they've been in cahoots since the end of the Clone Wars but maybe she hasn't brought Bail up to the level she's at with Luthen yet. Anyway Mothma is totally gonna Space Divorce her dopey husband, that'll be fun! Also I loved the Mimban shout out and the Rakata too! So was Mimban ended up being Imperials fighting Imperials as Luthen referenced? also out of all that mud fighting only 50 people made it out alive? Cheese and crackers! Also I think the lady ISB agent is totally Andor's sister, if only because process of character elimination and Star Wars Family Melodrama Dynamics.
Spoiler The Atrivis Resistance Group is known as the Alliance before 2 BBY. And generally the early rebellion gets called the Alliance before then anyway. There's still a central core to the disparate rebel cells before Mon formally unites them.
Spoiler Hmm, so when they had that in the first episode it doesn't come with an explanation as to what "BBY" stands for...so the general audience would have just been left in the dark?
Also, if anyone happens to have their sourcebooks handy- Spoiler was that description of the ISB mission statement from one of the WEG SBs? Their reference to it being verbatim from their manual or whatever made me think that they were actually quoting a SB entry as a winking moment. Could be reading into it too much though and don’t recall the ISB WEG content off the top of my head, though. It’ll eventually convey a countdown even without definitional info for general audiences when we (presumably) see BBY 4, 3, 2, 1 next season.
