^ As much as I liked their story and want to know their characters better, I have to say no to that. The emotional impact of R1 comes from the death of people we care about. If they don't die, it's just another action-adventure story without much depth.

Side note, Jo Robinson (author of this tweet) and Mallory Rubin are doing amazing long-form episode-by-episode breakdown podcasts on the Ringer-Verse, highly recommended. They also had a fun interview with Andy Serkis last week.

Andor S1, with this episode has surpassed Mando S2 as the best SW Live Action TV season/series imo.
Was close before this, but this put it over the top.

I am so, so, so torn between Andor and Mandalorian now. The slow burn is one spark away from a raging inferno and I love every second of it.

Star Wars reached the stratosphere, shot off into space, and exited the galaxy with this episode. That was hands down the best episode of television I've seen in many years. I cried, I pumped my fist, I acted like Andy Serkis's dad yelling at the screen that he can do it, and I decided that Cassian Andor will be my permanent avatar.

Thank you, Andor. You're my current hope.

"I've made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts"

GOD **** that was a beautiful line, that followed a bunch of beautiful lines, and was followed by more.

Best episode so far, and the only one I am tempted to rate with a 10. I will probably do so.

So much tension, so much good stuff in this episode. The prison planet has 3 moons, nice.

This was the first episode of Andor that felt 100% like Star Wars to me.

If I didn’t need to be into work in 5 1/2 hours I would watch this all over again. No idea how I’ll sleep after this adrenaline rush. Perhaps I’ll lay awake wondering if Snoke does/doesn’t know how to swim?

Had something similar happen, but I'm surprised when it was. Mothma's reaction to the suggestion about her daughter.

    Go to sleep.
He made it pretty clear he doesn't.
    He's dead Jim.
    I also sleep now.
    Work tomorrow will suck.
    But that episode was fire.

Wow, I didn't ever expect to be so enthralled and emotionally moved by the jailbreak, just seeing the courage of all these random dudes.

Also, while at first I was kind of disappointed in how little development Cassian gets, I'm actually just getting a lot of enjoyment of him being the street smart guy who instinctively knows what to do, the man of action. So many moments where I just think, man Cassian is awesome.

My only gripe is that with every episode I really start to feel the repetition in locations due to the budget, like seeing Luthen and Mothma in the same place every time. But glad to see the daughter stuff with Mothma finally get to somewhere really interesting.

How can this show be so damn good?!

My heart was pounding, my fist was pumping and Luthen's monologue at the end was downright Shakespearean! Normally, I don't like that kind of speechifying, but this time, it felt entirely earned. I feel like they left Kino's fate unresolved because Serkis was so great they might want to bring him back. What an amazing career highlight for him - watching Kino gradually gain confidence and righteous fury over the intercom gave me chills.

And I can't forget Davo's offer to Mon Mothma! That alone was enough drama for an episode of television ("I'm not thinking about it." "That's the first untrue thing you've said."). I can't wait to see how this season finishes!

Much like the Aldhani heist, the central escape sequence was well done, but not all that memorable in terms of the overall execution. Even though the security was light in the prison, I was a bit surprised that the prisoners weren't more low key in communicating the plan to each other, especially early on. The highlight was actually the reveal that Kino didn't know how to swim. I'm sure many predicted he wouldn't make it out alive, but what mattered was how and why, and this was particularly gutting.

But man, Luthen's conversation with his Imperial mole was just outstanding, capped by a monologue for the ages.

And of all the high drama of this series, this episode supplied the biggest Oh **** moment: "I'd like to stop by again with fourteen year-old son." Holy moly. Mon Mothma just keeps getting pulled further into the deep end.

    8/10

It's not due to the budget, I don't think. At least not primarily. It's that the show is slowly building, and that requires staying put a bit. Plus, going into the Coruscant lower levels was a refreshing change of scenery. And confirmed for me that Gilroy is deploying aliens in very specific ways to tell the story. As the ISB rebel descends, we see more and more life, blood, and gets, which is a stark contrast from the sterile rooms of the ISB HQ. And part of that blood and guts - that humanity - is ironically seeing aliens everywhere. Lots of different kinds of people live down below the ISB bubble, and that choice really hit me. Gilroy outdid himself here. And Toby Haynes' direction was impeccable.
I'm searching my brain for the possibility that I could ever even imagine this reaction to the escape's execution, but alas, it's a sunless space. ;)

    Kino Loy is not Snoke.

But it would be an extremely good attempt to rehabilitate Snoke as a character if that were the case, and it would almost make sense based on what we see in The Mandalorian and where Kino is now.

    He's not Snoke, though.

Of course Amdy Serkis isn't playing Snoke now. He's playing a guy leading a justifiable prison revolt, and he's doing a damn good job.

This series was a slow start for me but episode 10 is outrageously good.

But this is yet another project where it seems Padme Amidala leaves no professional legacy on the world at large. She's just artefacts for a collector to clean.

I've gotta say I am not invested in the Mon Mothma storyline. Her scenes have been quite repetitive and meandering for most of the show.
Not killing the Imperials at the command center was also kind of stupid. You don't know what they can press after you leave. Better to off them.
Otherwise pretty good. Although "I can't swim" was unintentionally comedic.
