I believe that sincerely given the scenario of Imperial 5th columnists, sure, and honestly you should too...

But I didn't write multiple scenarios where Mothma botched the handling of the Rebellion/Republic so badly the sequels happened in the first place after contemplating throwing herself on Palpatine's nonexistent mercies (with the belief that she would be spared, notably- see: From A Certain Point of View) and canonically was more passionate about taking down other rebels than the Empire (Rebels)- that's entirely on about five different writers making a damning case against Mothma being remotely heroic or successful.

Loved how raw Mon Mothma was in this week's episode. She's been putting on a pleasant face for everyone, and she's only betrayed a part of her true feelings to allies like Luthen and Tay. Seeing her be real with Vel was really moving.

 

I liked how her entire chat was juxtaposed with her daughter reciting some GFFA Girl Scouts initiation club. It was sad, interesting, kind of creepy, and excellent SW world-building.

 

put the subtitles on during that scene , the chant about knots and binding is very good, real creepy.

 

Yup. Younger generations going back to religious, fundamentalist roots is a dynamic that occurs in post-conflict societies sometimes. It was a dynamic I studied in Cyprus about 16 years ago.

 

I'm not a parent myself but yet I feel like nothing more perfectly encapsulates the essence of parenthood than being willing to risk sacrificing yourself and perhaps the whole galaxy to save your daughter from experiencing a lifetime of suffering at the hands of an arranged marriage the way you are, even though she doesn't even like you, let alone express gratitude, and then the next thing you know she's prancing around the house talking about how much she would love to c̶o̶n̶t̶i̶n̶u̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶y̶c̶l̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶o̶p̶p̶r̶e̶s̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ follow the traditional values.

 

Mon, her family dynamics, and the portrayal of how a politician may rebel in an Empire, have been a great watch.

If she's caught, would not the Empire also come down hard on her home planet of Chandrilla, à la Aldhani and the ISB/Emperor's response? She's risking further oppression of her own people as well her family and her own life...

Genvieve has been brilliant in this role.

 

According to Wookiepeedia Mon has a son, Jobin, who would eventually be killed on Hoth. Is this canon? If it was at one point has it been de-canonized?

If Mon's daughter Lieda ends up marrying into the Sculdun family it could be cool to see how that experience shapes her. Could be good show material.

EDIT: Initially I thought that Lieda being open to an arranged marriage would be a cheap copout that would get Mon morally off the hook for marrying off her daughter to fix her money laundering problem however I don't think that anymore. Mon knows that even if her daughter is happy about the arranged married her daughter is marrying into a crime family. Knowing this Mon is likely worried that marrying into such a family will 1) possibly corrupt her daughter or 2) her daughter will remain virtuous but angry that she is now trapped in a marriage to a crime family and resentful that her mother knew this to be the case all along.

 

He existed only in Legends continuity. So he was de-canonized at the moment Lucasfilm scrapped the old EU.

 

Ah good to know. Then it's safe to assume that Wookiepedia's info on Lieda is partly incorrect too since some of it is Legends continuity. That leaves the door wide open for future Lieda stories. That could very cool. I'm not chomping at the bit for a spin-off about 14 year old Lieda, but a story about Lieda that picks up when she's older and has been exposed to her in-laws shady activities for a number of years could go in some interesting directions.

 

I don't use the old Wook much these days, but my understanding is that there's generally separate tabs on each article for "legends" and "canon" information, should the subject appear in both.

 

So it does! Thanks for the tip! So...according to Wookiepedia her Legends name was Lieda and her new cannon name is Leida? Man...

 

I really can't see any future scenario for Mon's daughter that is better than her current situation - only ones that are much worse, out of her daughter's control, and long-term bad. Even Mon's declaration of being a Rebel can't end well.

That is a real test for any caring mother/parent, like Mon, and another tragedy in this whole affair.

I hope Mon can save her own daughter from all this and it works out.

(Irrespective of teenage resentment or how good or bad Mon is at money laundering, lol).

 

My guess about Mon's family's future - Perrin will refuse to run from Coruscant and will end up in ISB's dungeon, his "funny friends" will not save him.

Leida, thanks to Sculdun's influence, will stay free, but will become a vocal accuser of her mother's actions.

 

So Mothma won't leave the Senate and become a fugitive until later in S2 right? As much as I love the political stuff we have gotten this season, I hope next season gives us some more Senate politics outside the Mothma home. I'm sure they'll introduce Bail? It'll be interesting to see how they re-link up.

 

I think Bail Organa probably was on Alderaan and when coming back to Corucant quite busy and coundt help Mon Mothma. Next season will be Bail and Mon team up.

 

I also think that when Mon is exposed to be a rebel, Perrin and Leida won't be supportive of her. Not sure about Perrin being locked up though. I think he'll go from being a don't-rock-the-boat kinda guy to a full-on supporter of the Empire.

 

Perrin is a wildcard at this point honestly.

 

Such a big contrast between Leida's mother and Syril's mother. The cut between Mon and Vel talking just as Leida walks in, and Syril and Eedy when he's woken by his old colleague really highlights their differences.

 

Hope that season finale for Mothma's storyline will be something more than her just witnessing Leida meeting Sculdun's son - for example, Davo or even Tay Kolma will be revealed to be working for ISB.

 

Davos seems to be a well-known criminal, though. Especially among Chandrilans. Wouldn’t Lieda simply…know about him? Holonet and all that.

 

Eh, not necessarily. I can’t say I was up on my crime bosses when I was her age.

 

Yeah, me neither. But kids these days (and in the GFFA, I presume) can just Google/ its equivalent (Gullet.com?). Especially if they’re marrying into said family…
