I love that the writers weren't dumb enough to have Mothma say more sensitive political things in the car. She's smart enough to keep the chat personal. She criticizes her husband's gambling. And then in perhaps in a moment of too much anger, in response to her husband's insistent lies, makes that biting comment about where he's getting his money from - which is what the driver spy reports back. There's nothing solid there yet, but a thread to pursue. And now we have a villain on Mothma's tail.

It's nice because from the way Rose describes the people who go to Canto Bight, it is clear that Mothma's husband is really the typical person you'd find there.

The funeral procession buildup (Brasso and B2EMO leading the way) and Maarva's speech were the highlights of it. Phenomenal writing there. I kept thinking we'd have some interaction between Meero and Cassian at some point in it, or even with Syril and Cassian but I'm sure that will happen down the road. I enjoyed where things ended even if in my own mind, I had a different imagination of how they'd get there. The only minor downside was the Death Star post-credits scene. I just felt like that was tacked on for the hell of it.

    9/10

The long wait for Season 2 starts.

We were all wondering what they were building in the prison, what was that strange object about. They just confirmed in that scene that they were building components of the DS.
I don't understand why people have problems with that, or find it unrelated with respect to the show. They simply answered a question many of us had.

I think the point was that Perrin doesn't lie. Mothma does. He doesn't gamble anymore, not with big money anyway, but by accusing him Mothma saves her own skin since she knows the Empire is listening. It was devious of her, but clever. She is the one with mysterious money losses. So she invents a way to hide it by making Perrin a scape goat. He is douchebag, but now he might actually be innocent.

    Great episode.

That huge hologram of Marva was a huge callback to The Clone Wars Onderon which introduced Saw Guerrara and the idea of a rebellion in Star Wars. Those early Rebels against the Sepertists employed huge holograms to spread this message and help with civilian recruitment.

It was even a bit cartoon like series. Cool to see such a direct link.

    Excellent episode.

I like how touched Luhtheb was by the Marva’s message and the effect it had on the population. Luthen knew in Cassian he’d found the person he needed to light the spark of rebellion.

That made the ending feel very good.

Will Syril ever get another chance to kiss Dedra? That was some weird romantic villian heat. Good stuff.

Also like how Syril and Dedra cross cut with Cassian and Bix’s escape.

    Anvil Hammerman survived.

The end credit tag seemed tacked on with lesser special effects. Still it was a fun tag but might be the only moment that didn’t pitch perfectly fit the tone of the series.

Excellent first season. What a great series!!!

Is it wrong I was more worried about him than many of other characters :D He is such a cool dude.

Agreed. Loved the world building and very realistic style.

I hope next season has bit more alien characters though. This episode has bare minimum again. We had some in the bar, some in the background like quite prominent Kubaz(or the like), who apparently was not an imperial sympathizer though like his devious kin in ANH.

I could definitely see Anvil Hammerman becoming the official name of that character.

That was definitely Mothma throwing her husband under the bus. She suspected that the driver was dirty, and she knew that the Empire was looking into her finances, so she deliberately misled them by accusing her husband of gambling, hoping that the Empire would be satisfied that that is what the mysterious transfers were for.
The villain was already on her tail; this was an effort to mislead them.

It was great to see Dedra so terrified and shaken up at the end. ISB officers probably never see action this up close and have no idea what that feels like.

That makes sense. I missed that thread, though, because to me if feels too risky to raise suspicion about money problems in advance of the Empire’s probe (remember that it’s supposed to be happening “soon,” in her mind, not now). Not least as Mon is going through with the arranged marriage anyway, and so presumably Davos will be helping her hide the discrepancy in her ledgers. If that’s the case, why raise suspicion? Is the idea that an investment by Davos can be explained by her husband’s gambling?

Can't say that the final is bad, but it felt underwhelming for me. While Maarva's speech was powerful by itself, the thing is that the Empire so far did nothing to Ferrix in recent times (and while Clem's death 13 years ago was tragic, it was a result of Ferrix's inhabitants provocation), with the exception of arresting two criminals, so the revolt did not feel like a retribution. Well, now Bix is saved, but many innocent people now dead or arrested.

Regarding Syril and Dedra - while I like that their relationship is upgrading, "white knight saving lady in distress" was a too
primitive plot twist. Wish the former met Cassian, but ultimately choosed to help Dedra instead of taking revenge.

It’s funny because I don’t find Mon Throwing her husband under the bus a problem at all. He’s a helpful idiot in this situation. It lets Mon play the part of pampered elite with aristocratic problem.

Senator Mothma’s husband has a gambling problem!! What a scandal!!! As opposed to Mon Mothma is funding the rebellion against the Empire. Off with her head!!!

That arranged marriage - which the daughter is totally into the idea of - could actually be the best thing for Mon’s daughter.

In the very near future Mon is going to be a wanted fugitive. Hee family is going to be cast out of high society. They might even be tortured and killed by the Empire - under the guise of finding Mon but really to hurt her if they can’t get Mon directly.

Being the daughter-in-law of one of the richest men in the galaxy can help protect her daughter.

Mon really is getting the best of this guy. He’s hoping a marriage to the Mothma family brings him prestige and legitimacy. He has no idea Mon is about to be a toxic commodity. Association with her won’t open doors for very long.

If Davo sticks it out and see things through to the New Republic he could still get his wish.

I think she still wants to save her daughter for forcibly marrying. She introduced them though. She also knows Empire will learn about the money so in case there is anything suspicious gambling thing works in her favor.

Maarva told him she’s gone. There is no reason for her to lie about that. That plot thread seems to have been tied up there.

I don't think so. If she is dead then too that is going to serve as a plot point in season 2 probably.

Well, what to do, the situation by itself is quite controversial, I did not distort the truth. Imperials did not interrupt Maarva's speech even when she started to talk directly about the Empire and captain started to act only when she called for an open riot.

Marrva's scene was the best, and it was clever not to have a death-bed scene so they could give her this instead.

so Andor gets his name from Marrva ? And we still don't know where he came from and who his people were?
