Well... in November, The Hollywood Reporter said that it was delayed due to scheduling conflicts that Patty Jenkins had. THR have been reliable with their SW scoops before, notably reporting (accurately) in 2017 that an Obi-Wan movie directed by Stephen Daldry was in development.

What THR said didn't seem like a big deal, and they didn't try to sensationalize their report, saying only "However, sources say the producers and filmmaking team came to the realization that Jenkins’ schedule and other commitments wouldn’t allow for the window needed to make the movie in 2022." They didn't use the word "indefinitely" once, but other websites immediately spun it into "Rogue Squadron movie delayed indefinitely" for clicks.

One week later, a former THR editor said in a newsletter he published that "I talked to a few insiders this week that said the real culprit was the dreaded 'creative differences'; specifically, Jenkins couldn’t agree on the script with Lucasfilm executives, including senior V.P. Michelle Rejwan." It really seemed like something to be taken with a grain of salt, however, as the newsletter was dripping with his own biases --- it was titled "It's time to take 'Star Wars' movies away from Kathy Kennedy," it presented as fact that Rian Johnson's trilogy has been shelved, and it had a huge "Everything at Star Wars is doom and gloom!" vibe --- and all of that was just in the opening two paragraphs that are available as a free preview.

Since then, Disney has released a schedule for 2022 and 2023 that still has Rogue Squadron slotted in for December 2023. Maybe that will change. Maybe it won't. But it's still premature to assert that it's been canceled, or even delayed "indefinitely." It's not unreasonable to think there's something to what that former THR dude said, based on LFL's poor track record with directors who have tried to bring unique visions to the table, but he also obviously had an axe to grind and may very well have jumped to conclusions himself before presenting them as fact.

In the meantime, go and get your Rogue Squadron fix by playin Rogue Squadron N64 on Steam, or reading Rogue Squadron Omnibus Volume 3 again. Guaranteed to make you smile.

Yeah Rise of Skywalker was sorta my wake up call when i realized.

I love this film and i don't really care about others opinions about it at this point.

I'd be totally okay if this is a 90 minute blast. If anything Star War could just be zippy, it could be a Rogue Squadron.

Oh, for a second there I thought they cast Pete Davidson in the movie.

I think Celebration will give us a definitive answer as to what the future of Star Wars Live action (films and TV series (which i hope includes Rogue Squadron) ) will be.

I'm guessing that if Rogue Squadron doesn't get any mention at all at Celebration, then its pretty much ice.

Interesting that the article forecasts Taika's film coming before Rogue Squadron. Especially given that Taika said he was still in the early writing phase last summer and has probably been busy as all hell since then with post-production on Love and Thunder and reshoots for Next Goal Wins, not to mention TV projects like Our Flag Means Death.

If there's anything to that comment, and RS really is "further off" than Taika's film, then December 2023 doesn't look all that likely. No need for gloom and doom obviously, but a delay kinda seems obvious at this point.

They could snap up the director of Top Gun Maverick for this if Jenkins is out or cant commit or whatever.

I haven't even gotten to the action part of the film, but I'm enjoying it and it makes me want to continue my re-read of the Rogue Squadron novels.

Kosinski has been my dream Star Wars Director since Tron Lgeacy. It’s a great shame that they’ve never approached him.

it is very star wars like.

I really want them to stick with Patty Jenkins. Her father was a fighter pilot, and I trust her to take the subject matter seriously. For her, it's not just a paycheck, it's a passion project.

    Yep, all trench run!

I watched a Danger Zone X-Wing compilation video afterward. Funny enough, Maverick's trench run reminded me more of TFA's assault on Starkiller Base than the DS trench run.

It has more turns than the trench run, but I think it was also better than the SK base, maybe just due to more focus.

Also "Talk to me Goose" might as well have been the force.

She sure doesn't seem passionate about it now.

Though I have heard that internal politics are preventing new movies until some new contracts happen.

Poor old Patty can’t catch a break it seems.

Perhaps this is good news for her Star Wars movie?

Well it does give her more free time. But being turned down isn't normally a good thing. Though with how things change who can say.

I'm still hoping Patty wants Gal to star in Rogue Squadron.

By all accounts the film was a mess, I’m beginning to feel like we dodged a bullet after what I’ve herd Patty wanted for Wonder Woman 3.

Apparently she is also not great to work with.

    Also the writer.

Maybe Tom Cruise as well, though I expect he would want to film in space so maybe not.

I'm not particularly interested in Cruise, just the writer and director.

Makes perfect sense to poach a team that has a proven fighter jock track record though.

At this point, the first WW almost seems like a fluke and maybe shines better juxtaposed against what came before and after it.

She DIRECTED WW she didn't WRITE it. That is the key difference. Not everyone can do everything.
