@heels1785 They could not even pay Fox to throw it on there one random Saturday when they got like reruns of old TV shows, info commercials and reruns of monster truck rallies. And FS1 is a network that Fox was thinking of ditching anyway as hardly anyone watches it though the problem is they don't have a streaming service they can just stick some of their other college football and basketball games on instead. Ditto for this. Meanwhile does Patrick Reed the fact he is suing the Golf Channel for $750 million proves what they said was true? https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/i...ion-defamation-lawsuit-golf-channel-employees
the TGL venture that tiger and rory are rolling out in january 2024 ("tech-infused" team virtual golf league that will play on monday nights in a custom-built venue) now has an investors group that includes steph curry, lewis hamilton, alex morgan, shohei ohtani, serena williams, justin timberlake, josh allen, tony romo, chris paul, sidney crosby, arthur blank (falcons owner), and john henry (fsg - red sox/liverpool owner). lots of star power and money going into this.
@heels1785 And unlike LIV it doesn't have blood money behind it and being played at Trump golf courses with MAGAers filling up the galleries. @Darth_Accipiter I do too now. I actually seen Justin Timberlake play golf at the celebrity pro-am at the Ryder Cup at Medinah about 10 years ago. Incredibly he is much smaller and skinner in person. Also hit a decent ball and honestly his group which included Bill Murray (who is a local obviously that always draws a big crowd) had the biggest gallery following them including a bunch of younger and even middle aged women because this was back in 2012 when Justin was still considered cool. And have a couple acquaintances that played golf with Romo since they were all buddies at EIU. They said he crushes the ball just like you expect.
That's a lot of star power. Some are unexpected, but the only name really surprising to me is Ohtani.
I don’t know which team is going to win The Match but fully expecting McIlroy to bitch about Greg Norman for 10/12 holes.
I did not watch it and have quit watching The Matches entirely until they go back to 18-hole matches. 12 holes is stupid.
That sounds incredibly stupid. You either play 18 or 9 I have never heard anyone play anything else. Unless they were pressed for time
The point of it is to be a TV event. Like baseball, one of the main complaints you'll often hear from detractors of the game is its length.
Absolute epic collapse in progress for Morikawa at the Tournament of Champions. I turned it on after the Steeler game and he was up by 6, turned it back on a bit ago, now Rahm is winning. Granted, Rahm's playing really well this back nine but it's not often you see pros actually duff shots.
yeah, wild final round and atypical of morikawa. finau will get a major this year, i believe. closed strong today.
I've been calling for Finau to win one for at least a decade. Just when you think the field has cleared for him to grab one, somebody from out of nowhere shows up to become the next phenomenon and steal his chance. He should be in his prime. It is now or never.
Morikawa actually was 1 under par on the day as he finished with a 72 (73 is par), which doesn't sound that bad except it was the tied for second worst total of the day and it all blew up for him on the back nine with three straight bogeys as he has been to that point-3 under on his round. And I agree it's Tony time to shine, especially since I do think there is a reasonable chance the LIV players struggle in the majors this year. There are several reasons why I think it could be the case, including that it will be hard to turn the juice on when they are playing in glorified exhibitions each week against a small field of the same players compared to the grind of the PGA tour where you need to fend off everyone including the lower rank players who can just get hot one weekend and compete for a title out of nowhere.
a great thing for them - free HD OTA channel that should increase visibility. would help if cw was still primarily under the cbs/warner umbrella, as they could move some of the "larger" events over to the big networks if they were performing well on the cw. certainly better than paying fox for coverage on their cable network, lol.
I must admit I thoroughly enjoy the California swing even with the stop off in Phoenix for the Waste Management Tourney. They are absolutely gorgeous courses that are each unique and it's so cool but also depressing to watch them playing in these very green beautiful courses while also watching the snow fall from the glass siding door of our basement family room. Plus, it's on CBS, whose coverage I enjoy better than NBC. The Florida swing to me isn't as good even though you got the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship in it.
