Did you just compare the 2012 Giants to the Chiefs? That is the most laughable statement I’ve read in my 23+ years on these boards.
So they go from losing at horses...to losing at football? Me thinks they should reconsider this, especially if there is as much emotional subtext as could be surmised. Cause one thing is certain. If they move out, the city will demolish that UFO in the ruins down there and make something not related to football. And then when they want to move back to the city in 20 or 30 years...like ALL the teams that play these cycles with their stadiums do...they won't have a municipal stadium needing to be occupied.
it sounds like bienemy to washington is likely, with nagy to replace him in kc. it's an interesting move into a volatile organization with a coach on the hot seat. hopefully he does well.
Would love to join the chatter about phantom holding calls on WRs late in the 4th deciding (multiple) Super Bowls, or dissect Zapruder film on the lines on those plays, but c'est la vie. Instead I wanted to announce I named my Harry Potter Legacy character by putting "Joe Burrow" into a wizarding name simulator and it is appropriately dope thank you.
My wizarding character is named Jooyeon Kim. She's Korean-British. No reason, just because. Yeah... I hate that he has to prove himself but I hope he's able to get that HC job soon now. Best of luck to him and absolutely thanks for the memories. Now that Nagy will be elevated back to OC, I'm definitely wondering who will be Quarterbacks Coach... And hoping for Chad Henne. Mahomes always says Henne has been like having a coach in the QB room.
Carolina has hired former Georgia running back Thomas Brown as OC, who has been a red hot name and has made a very rapid climb up the ranks. It doesn't surprise me, as he always seemed like a smart guy and a leader even at Georgia.
Bienemy is officially the Commanders OC. Love Riviera and hope this is the beginning of something good for both them (with a new owner) and Bienemy. Best wishes!
Again, sorry for my team taking Bienemy from you guys, but hopefully we'll be a much better team as a result next year with him as our OC.
Some good stats in here. Favorite is Tom Brady having more NFC playoff wins than Drew Brees. Suck it @JEDI-SOLO
The clock on Ron Rivera's tenure has begun. Either they become the dynamic duo of NFL coaching and win the East. Or that "assistant" tag vanishes before one full year is complete. Calling it. We shall review this on 2/18/24.
I learned an interesting factoid last week: Because their lone victory came before the merger, the New York Jets hold the unique distinction of having won a Super Bowl despite having never won the AFC. On that note, I’ve always thought the Chiefs should sell “Still AFL Champions” merchandise.
So Bieniemy's job title is not just Offensive Coordinator, but also Assistant Head Coach. So is this actually a step up from Kansas City, or did he have that latter title in KC as well, or is this AHC title just fluff? (I truly don't know.)
He was not Assistant Head Coach in KC as far as I know. The big step up is that he'll be calling the plays, which he didn't do in KC, and is a necessary part of making one's bones as an offensive coach. It's hard to say what AHC means unless it comes straight from Washington. We can only guess for now. AHC is usually a significant title, as it implies a significant leadership role and extra duties. Such duties may be duties that the HC himself is usually responsible for. This often makes AHC a sort of apprentice training role toward becoming a head coach. It often, but not always, means one is above all the coaches in hierarchy except the HC himself, and usually first in line to be the interim HC if one is needed for any reason (not just firings, but perhaps health problems, etc). Sometimes, the AHC runs the half of the team the AHC specializes in. Not every OC gets that level of control. A lot of head coaches will still look over the shoulder of the OC, make demands, overrule, etc. Perhaps the AHC title denotes that Bieniemy has total control of the offense, which would be big toward proving himself for future HC positions.
Thanks for the information. I was genuinely clueless about exactly what AHC meant. Glad to hear that it is likely a legit step up for Bieniemy and not just a lateral move as was initially talked about.
Thoughts on Bienemy and him not being a head coach already: My suspicion is the primary reason has to do with race. Behind that, I’m not sure Bieniemy interviews well, but seeing some of the recent head coaching hires I don’t know if that really matters. Lastly, I think that Reid gets a lot of credit for the offense, specifically playcalling, but other guys have gotten HC jobs for systems that they merely existed in and did not run… and it’s clear that Bienemy calls some of the plays. Reid has said it, Mahomes has said it, and there is video of him calling plays from the sidelines.
Mahomes has however said that mostly Reid calls plays..so I get it. This level of scrutiny would be ok.. if young white dudes also got it. But they don't.
Panthers have also hired Shawn Jefferson to be their WR coach, who is known as one of the best WR coaches in the business. A number of the top WRs over the years have hired him to be their personal coach during the offseason, he runs a very popular camp, etc.
