Absolutely! That's exactly what I was planning to do, write a series of scenes with each successive one taking place earlier and earlier in time. ;)

@ViariSkywalker This week's (Week 9) prompt has got me stumped, so could you put me down for a bye-week?

And I'll try to see if any ideas are shaken loose in my head by the time Week 11 is done[face_thinking]

    Thank you!

I agree, but something will probably pop up at some point this week. I had to re-read it a few times before my brain was like: okay, that is English. :p

EDIT: Can the 'silent listener' be named? As in, does the entire story have to be dialogue, or can there be some movement by the characters described in the story?

Omg dramatic monologues are my jam. Like, I don't have an idea for this week yet necessarily, but there's so many good ones I can offer as examples!

    - Hamlet's soliloquy in Act 3, Scene 1 of Hamlet
    - Lady MacBeth's in Act 1, Scene 5 of MacBeth
    - King Lear's in Act 3, Scene 2 in King Lear
    - Keanu Reeve's Don John's in Act 1, Scene 3 in Much Ado About Nothing
    - Richard, Duke of Gloucester's in Act 1, Scene 1 in Richard III
    - the two in Andor Episode 10 and the two in the season finale (iykyk)

    - this one (and you absolutely heard it in his voice, didn't you?)

    - this one (again, pictures you can hear)

Yaaaaas, you're so right and those are such good examples! [face_hypnotized] [face_love] A dramatic monologue can literally be anyone/anything to anyone/anything! I mean, last year, Vi had her character talking to the horses he was tending, and another monologuing at his ward/pupil/test subject. (What? It was from the POV of an evil scientist. [face_mischief])

To further illustrate: right now I'm torn between a Jedi communing with their kyber crystal; an AU Anakin raging at Vader and/or Vader scorning that same AU Anakin; a pilot talking to their ship; and an AU version of Darth Maul giving Luke one epic shovel talk. :p And that's just from one day of mulling on the prompt in the back of my mind! The possibilities are as varied as they are endless! [face_love]

Here's one that 17-yo Elli wrote.

And in the interest of sharing what ideas are marinating in our skulls, I had the notion of writing cat!Vader monologuing at a mouse he'd just caught and was about to eat - before suddenly realizing that I was absolutely copping that scene from The Lion King :p

Welp, that narrowed it down for me. [face_mischief] [face_whistling] [:D]

Would something like Mulder's speech here count as a dramatic monologue? I feel like it could be fun to play around with. :p

Personally, I think that you have a great cast that could definitely monologue something fun and interesting along those lines - especially given the usual shenanigans that Stranger Things deals with on a regular basis. I say run with it! :D

Oh I don't have any ideas, I'm just kind of trying to get a grasp on what a dramatic monologue actually consists of. :p Your list of ideas and @vader_incarnate's examples are helpful, though, and it's all really fascinating!

Actually, @Mira_Jade, do you mind if I send you a PM? I have a couple more questions and examples in mind and I don't want to clutter up the thread with Simpsons quotes and Springsteen songs. :p

Also: Simpson quotes and Springsteen songs are never amiss. ;) [face_love]

@vader_incarnate: I approve of all those monologues. (Scar and the Shakespeare ones, that is--I refuse to spend one cent on Disney+, so I'll have to take your word about Andor.) There's just one more I need to mention off the top of my head while I'm here: Don't forget Edmund's "If I weren't a bastard, I would still be a bastard" speech from King Lear.

After I read the prompt, I went straight to Shakespeare and even more predictably to "To be, or not to be," but I went on and perused the wikipedia link, and the examples they used were mostly from Anglophone Victorian era poetry: with Matthew Arnold's "Dover Beach," and various poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson and Robert Browning used as examples. So if anyone is searching for inspiration, that's another possible place to look.

Here's my week 8: Where the Black Sand Meets the Raging Seas

    It's Allana/Festus again. Yeah, I know. :p

    Aw, you guys [:D]

Sure thing! I've marked you down, but of course if you end up finishing the prompt this week, let me know and I'll update my list. :)

The entire story should be told as one character speaking, so yes, essentially the whole thing is dialogue. (Or rather, monologue. ;)) You don't necessarily have to punctuate it like dialogue, but that's what it is. Hopefully that helps?

    I did. [face_tee_hee]

lolol, yep, I did indeed. :p Here's the horse-whisperer monologue and the evil scientist monologue, if anyone else is looking for further examples in a fanfic context.

    YEP.

    [face_mischief]

I've got you marked down for your bye week! Good luck finishing it, and glad you like the prompt! :D

I won't need to take my bye week after all! I was already half-way through writing a story as a belated entry for one of last year's prompts when the dramatic monologue prompt came up, and the dramatic monologue turned out to be the solution I was looking for. So I re-wrote my story and for week 9 I give you ‘Discarded’, featuring a drunk Nautolan OC.

Now to figure out something else to write for last year's prompt. Hmmm [face_thinking]

I posted my deliriously cracky entry, in which Han gives cat! Vader The Talk. :han::vader:

Possibly I'll write another entry later this week, I just had to type out that particular weird bunny. :p

I am happy to share my Week 9, where Zaed (Darth Maul) and Luke have a Most Serious Discussion in Needless to Say. [face_mischief] [face_love]

LOL, SAME! This is definitely going to be a week ripe with ad hoc potential, I foresee. [face_thinking]

Thanks to everyone who shared examples and information about dramatic monologues! It was really helpful. :)

Well, this prompt is kicking my shebs, too. The idea I had isn’t working for me because I can’t get into the character’s headspace, and I don’t have anything else in mind. So unless I get a lightning bolt of inspiration real soon, it looks like I may be out. :(
