When the genre movie fan sites all say a movie is just ok, then you know for certain the real reviews are going to be extremely negative.

Didn’t George Lucas get a standing ovation a Cannes for Revenge of the Sith in 2005?

A lot of that applause was because he completed the damn six part movie series that was releases out of order.

*Looked it up online. RotS reviews were pretty mixed out of Cannes.

Mixed reviews still sounds better than tepid reviews.

Yeah sounds like a turd. Not unlike the thread title change.

@Jedi_Sith_Smuggler_Droid By all accounts, the ovation was really for Ford not the movie itself. Read somewhere that the audience was mostly quiet throughout other then a bit of whispering in French.

I am not surprised by the mix reviews so far. Nothing about the film sounds all that exciting. Just "ehhhhhh". Bad as Indy 4 was, at least it ended on a good and rather humorous note. I am worried this might not even do that.

The WWI episodes were the best of the series in my opinion. Some of them were just really bleak and cynical. There's the one where they're going through the jungle on a march and one where he's a courier, I think, and has to take messages back and forth from the front at Verdun and the generals, which is all about, you know, the pointlessness of war. I mean, it's all been done other places, but it worked really well in the context of the series.

And then there was the one with the vampire. That was also a WWI episode. A little more fun than the others.

And some of them were very slow. The mystery of the blues comes to mind.

I didn’t see many of the later episodes because after the first season the series was hard to find. Either being preempted or bounced around to random times and nights.

It’s interesting young Henry Jones Sr. is a main character on Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV series.

I only ever watched YIJ Chronicles as a kid, and never saw the later run of movies. Wanted to get them on DVD but the box sets used to be expensive back when I was collecting DVD heavily, and then I didn't have the time or the money years later, so never got around to them.

Fairly certain there will be some strong recall watching these in the new format for at least some stories. I do remember how the original bounced around subject matter. So you'd get a "oh, this week its a WWI story" and the next "Oh, it's a different time frame" and then a couple weeks later "Yay, more WWI", etc.

But it did feel weirdly structured in a Star Trek kinda way- "This week Klingons" "This week Borg" "This week random stuff". And, IIRC, the cast age rotation helped with that effect of delineating between them more clearly.

It's so people (new and old) who seek it out due to the new film can find it, not just the 5 people who are part of an in-joke based on something most people aren't even going to remember/know about (which would have gotten changed eventually anyways) to search for. Especially one that doesn't even do the one thing a thread title needs to do.

As I said, we can swap it back if folks want in a month or two (it's saved in the opening post for that purpose). Humor is fine. The whole point of the quotes and other thread title format quirks we utilize is to enhance the experience here with some creative and emotional flair to set the mood or pay respect to the things we come together to discuss. But the usability, discussion & archive nature of this forum will always remain the top priorities when it comes to its organizational aspects. Particularly when there may be a user draw to the forums overall from a film release such as Indy. It's a temporary concession.

Can't be a classic if it has changed constantly over the years ;).

I would think all one of them would go to the designated Lucasfilm board and not Community. This rationale is bad, the new thread title is bad, if you were that concerned about search engine friendliness - and you shouldn’t be - you could have just added “(Indiana Jones Thread)” at the end of the good title, I really think you should take the L and revert this abomination.

Well, the rationale was more that if we were going to change it, even temporarily, to then not make it sloppy by maintaining format instead of a tack-on. But if most people really care that much and want the thread title back, we can revert it. It wasn’t meant to be a big thing- just some housekeeping.

EDIT- ran up against the character limit but worked your suggestion in.

The movie will be nothing special, there's not going to be an influx op new people, the best this franchise has going for it right now is the first page of this thread.

That's the same day it's getting released pretty much everywhere else, including the US. Last night was just the Cannes premiere.

I read the start of one review that said Spielberg would never make a movie as bad as this. So at this point we are erasing not only the fact he’s made crap films, but crap films in this franchise.

Is this movie more crap than that crap?

Feels like it’s main reason for getting made was Disney bought the franchise.

Big time! It wasn't that somebody REALLY had another Indy story that just had to be told. Disney just felt like not making another Indy movie would've been leaving money on the table and they're probably not wrong.

All that said, I am a sucker who will see this in the theater largely for the nostalgia factor first and foremost, and not because I think it's going to be an amazing movie. I have a feeling that best it'll be disposable fun though I am worried about it be highly mediocre. And man, if it involves time travel, I just don't know if I'll be able to hang with that. There's something wrong with my brain that can accept a magical arc and ancient knights, and magical cups but time travel in an Indy movie feels like a bridge too far.

To be fair, it could also mean that Spielberg has made crap films, but none as crappy as this one.

At this point, I’m mainly holding out hope that Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning is good.
