Having Conker's Bad Fur Day on the list, but not G-Police is the beginning of my villain origin story

Of course I played the original Doom way back when it was popular. I'm pretty sure it was the law back then.

I'm surprised Sonic 2 wasn't ranked higher, but it is what it is. It was certainly huge back in the early 90s.

Never played the original Doom. Or any Doom actually.

AC2 is great. I didn't vote for it but it's an honorable mention I feel. Very few series have improved so much in every aspect from a 1st game to a 2nd.

You're so right. Conker's Bad Fur Day should be number one.

Even though Doom was not on my list, I think it should be in the top 10. I mean if we were to make a list of groundbreaking, genre-defining games.

But we're not. So Conker's takes the win

    Edit:
I know, I know, I was the main proponent of this line of argument in the films thread.

So because this is instead the JCC list, I think we can conclude things about the JCC. :p

I kind of feel like the PS One does not get its due. That and the SNES are my favorite systems. Its kind of remarkable how many franchises got their start on PS One. Crash, Spyro, Tony Hawk, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo, Tekken, Ridge Racer, Ace Combat, Twisted Metal. GTA as well. A lot of ground breaking games.

I’m kind of amused by the fact that so far, I haven’t played a single game that isn’t from my list.

And how many game series came into their own going to new heights on the PS1.

    Final Fantasy. Metal Gear. Castlvannia.

And PS1 has a surprising number of mid 90s PC games adapted to play on it.

It’s almost a different series once it goes to PS1 it’s such a leap in story and design.

Most of my great video game stories are from college, and this one is Doom's... (well, Doom II)

Before Diablo we did Doom II (before that was Marathon I think?)... and we played a bunch of IPX deathmatch in the living area. I... am not great at deathmatch shooting games, but played a bunch anyways (basically looking for chainsaws and BFGs). At one point I was camping some high ground somewhere and one of my buddies chatted me (believe it was still text-only chat back then, so this is how oblivious I was) "Turn around..." and when I did he point-blank shotgunned me.

    It was hilarious.

Doom really did show just how far you could push a game without being 3D.

Sonic 2 is just a good, solid game and the first on here that I owned. So, I prob still do.

Now up to 3 out of 15 played (1 owned), and still at just 1 that I own yet haven't played.

edit: wait, I also appear to own Doom on steam now. No idea when that happened. So... 2 played and owned.

My only real experience of playing Doom was when a friend of mine managed to get it working on his iPod Video.

Assassin's Creed II I played for about an hour but it wasn't for me.

I got Doom back when it came on many, many 3.5 diskettes. Fantastic game, I think I played it all the way through at least twice. My 486 DX-2 66 (it was clock-doubled!) ran it fine.

One of the things that made it great was that it was so fair - it would give you what you needed to win, and it would warn you about anything big coming, if you kept your eyes open. I haven’t forgotten what it was like to start the Cyberdemon level and be greeted with the sight of Baron’s of Hell corpses staked to the wall. Then you moved into one of the adjoining rooms and found it filled with bazooka shells, always dished out sparingly until that point. That’s how you knew you were going to meet something really nasty.

    Played: 5/15
On the "I should probably play that" list: 1/10 (Fallout)

I've played three of these this time, but none of them extensively

    Doom
Doom was installed on the entire computer lab in my high school typing class, along with Wolfenstein 3D. I'm not sure who talked the teacher into that, but those of us who could finish our assignments early sure were glad they did. I learned three things from this experience: you can talk over-tired and under paid inner city school teachers into a lot; FPS games were cool and fun; I absolutely suck at FPS games

    Baseball Stars
I played Major League Baseball, which is also a 1989 NES game far more than this one, and that one has the legacy of making me an Expos fan. I honestly don't remember much about this game, except renting it from Blockbuster and deciding I preferred the game we already owned.

    Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Kind of a similar story here. I was a Nintendo guy growing up, and Sonic was maybe a distant third in the video game character race behind Link and Mario. But I had friends that were Sega households and I can't deny that Sonic Two was a fun experience. I just never really got to explore it.

Inty's Rankings of the Games he's played:

(I'll spoiler it just in case it grows rather large)

    1. Ms. Pac-Man
    2. The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
    3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
    4. Doom
    5. Baseball Stars

Not a single game from my lists has appeared yet. Presumably they’ll all be in the top 50, I guess.

First person games like Doom and Quake were a whole new level of immersion for me. It wasn't me playing a character; it was me. I've beaten Doom and Quake and Wolfenstein 3D; every single level. Unfortunately some stupid people started committing violence after playing these games; not realizing that it was a game. But I was in my 20's when Doom came out.
