I am all for healthy skepticism. And yup, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. However, long before the existence of something is PROVEN, I think it is reasonable to ask, is there enough "going on" to warrant further investigation? There is a difference between saying "The existence of X isn't proven" and saying "There is no reason to look INTO X". We now have a lot of military personnel openly discussing encountering what appear to be tangible, physical objects (not just "lights in the sky") operating in ways that no acknowledged craft/drones/vehicles can, in ways that SEEM far, far, far beyond the capabilities of any known technology, military or otherwise. These objects appear on radar, and then were encountered and seen by the naked eye. We have footage of these objects. Even if we had never heard of "UFOs", if there was never anything before this - no stories, anecdotes, sightings, reports, pictures or videos, etc - I don't see how it can be argued that this isn't pretty extraordinary. Crashed and recovered vehicles, recovered tech, recovered "pilots", etc? Secret military tech, American or otherwise? I have no idea. But I think there is more than enough reasonably credible evidence of SOMETHING to warrant serious curiosity and investigation. No?
Those are the problems we can identify based on our own limited knowledge, of course. For all we know, there could be beings from other universes (if as a number of string theorists postulate, there are many universes), that are capable of hopping into ours, or whatnot. And this new “deep sea alien” thing I’ve been hearing about as a more plausible reality has to be one of the most absurd theories out there - yes, we haven’t fully explored the ocean floor, but the likelihood of technologically-advanced alien life with flying vessels having developed under the ocean, without us really knowing about it until now, is far less likely than alien life from far beyond Earth, or from another universe, or another dimensional plane. In any event, this one intelligence officer doesn’t change much. There would need to be far more voices coming forward for this to become a serious issue to look into. I personally find it very, very hard to believe that a coverup of this magnitude is at all possible, and that only now has there been a minor leak, from an intel officer saying he heard about this from some people. There’s just very little that’s plausible about the number of people who would need to be involved in such a program - not leaking anything. It’s just too big an issue, and the temptation to leak would have been overwhelming. So this conspiracy theory doesn’t hold much water with me. We’ll see. But I don’t suspect we’ll see much more anytime soon.
Let's be real. An intelligence species from the ocean who has any awareness of human activity would be trying to take care of the problem instead of just zipping around. Therefore aliens.
I see what you mean about a technologically more advanced terrestrial species living at the very bottom of Earth’s oceans being problematic as a theory or just as unlikely as deep space aliens or creatures from another dimension / plane of existence. If ocean people have greater technology than us surface dwelling humans why haven’t they made contact? Wouldn’t these ocean dwellers be adversely affected by an ever increasing rain of human pollution and climate change? Also if humans secretly built factories and towns or cities under the ocean I’m fairly sure modern technology would detect those. There might even be observable evidence at the surface. Why would a more advanced intelligent Earth species be hiding from the humans? Removing time and distance doesn’t make ocean people or a civilization inside the earth more plausible. Time and distance may not be the same obstacle for all life that it is for humans. Our machines fair much better than us in space. Could sentient machines last long enough to travel light years? Good point about a coverup being more implausible everyday with current technology. Huge amounts of evidence can instantly be made public to the world digitally. How could history shaking news be kept secret? Neil Degrasse Tyson said until there is better evidence he believes the tic tac UFO videos are most likely malfunctioning equipment on airplanes with nothing actually there. That more than one plane has detected these objects at the same time means it’s a glitch with how the systems function normally.
These are flawed arguments for two reasons: 1. You are applying human values and perspectives to possible non-human actors. There's no reason to believe that intelligent non-human life would want to make direct contact with us, for whatever reasons were important to them. Perhaps giving us glimpses of themselves as a distraction is their form of contact. We can't really know for certain. 2. There's no reason to believe that we would either detect them with our current level of technology or that the damage to the planet we've already would be beyond their ability to mitigate. That being said, I wholeheartedly agree that the most likely explanation here does not involve aliens, either from deep space or under the sea. It was just a thought I had.
What if it was an Atlantian OceanGate? “do you have any idea what being under only one atm of pressure does to a body? There’s no way this cheaply built thing is going to keep you properly pressurized!” “Safety is for suckers, we’re innovators!”’
One would expect that there would be substantial reports coming from astronomy as a field, then, as that's a field that spends huge amounts of time observing the skies. For the claims about the phenomena being made, the relatively open and relatively transparent astronomical field would be a big area that observations should be coming from. That sub didn't crush itself This is approaching the idea of von Neumann probes. NASA and its associated entities. Particularly the science-driven components.
Like I said, I don't think intelligence is essential for survival. I think there are relatively few planets that can support lifeforms, and amongst those that do, even if they do have talking, sapient lifeforms who have created civilizations, they may not have the futuristic technology we envision. They may be in the middle of their Roman empires, so to speak. Having said that, I would like to believe there are some species out there somewhere that are more mature than humans. I tend to write near-human aliens and nanomachine beings very well in my novels. Haven't written many other sorts of aliens. While I don't depict them as flawless, they are generally more mature than humans insofar as they tend to be far less warlike. It's interesting how the the old Expanded Universe was very stereotypical and racist in their depictions of aliens. I just did that with the humans of Earth in my novels by depicting them as worse than they are in real life; I made the Vefkelnin humans of other worlds more mature than us; and I made the near-human aliens and nanomachine species the most evolved in terms of practicality and perception. But at any rate, I do think the U.S. and China are probably hiding whatever has been flying over the oceans. Whether it's military craft from our world or another one, I don't know. But I don't trust the governments to ever be honest about it.
I don't think we will ever know. The pro UFO crowd is always saying "well wait until this comes out." and expecting some watershed moment. Then it comes out, and it's "I worked with a guy who.." stuff that convinces no one. Or vague footage that could be anything.
People: I want to believe Government: Aliens are visiting us and we covered it all up. People: I don't believe it.
The likelihood of a technologically-advanced alien species having developed under our ocean, without us yet finding even a trace of it, is billions of times less likely than the likelihood of an extraterrestrial, technologically-advanced alien species having developed without us yet finding a trace of it.
How about a technologically advanced terrestrial species? I’m having way too much fun with this, aren’t I?
Haha. Art. They do do have the quality of primitive sculpture. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it belongs in an art museum. That is a way to get work into a natural history museum. This is NASA’s first official comment. www.bbc.com/news/av/world-us-canada-66791954 Basically they said ‘Show us the data.’ I reserve judgment until James Cameron reveals what he knew about this 7 days ago.
