The N’gai are another Legends species I could see being reintroduced in Peridea; they’d be easier to translate because they’re mostly just pale “dark elf” looking dudes with a knife fixation. The Tof less so, since they’re such a goofy visual design…

…But the visual design is why I think you could modify much of the Yuuzahn Vong’s culture and species characteristics and make them work overall; drop the over-the-top self-harm part, make them a more conventional threat from a logistical standpoint, and just hammer home the metaphor of a once symbiotic species to a living planet being wrecked by killing that planet either through negligence or malcontent, and play into a more sophisticated culture.

I ultimately, though, still feel the ironic truth the show should reveal is that the Empire is a greater threat to the Chiss than anything Thrawn or the Acsendancy thinks should be the boogie men.

I wonder if this concept of 'paths to other galaxies' might lead to some sort of extragalactic threat we might see, perhaps in the new Rey series??? I would be totally good with that. Maybe a variation on Vong??

Funnily enough, we do actually get Palpatine’s thoughts on the Chiss and what his long term plans for them were (At least around 0BBY).

He basically felt that he needed to make an alliance with the Chiss to destroy the Grysks, whom he did consider a genuine threat, and then his plan was to essentially install Thrawn as the head of the Ascendancy when that was done and have it be a semi-vassal state for the Empire in the UR.

I was thinking a little more about Morgan and her role in the show’s overall story. When the first episodes aired, I was surprised to learn the Nightsisters had settled on multiple planets.

There was the temple where Ahsoka found the map, which Morgan knew about and likely had not retrieved yet because it was safe there and she hadn’t finished building the Eye of Sion. But then there was the map henge in Seatos, which she only said was built by an ancient people from a different galaxy. But it must’ve been a Nightsister outpost, since she knew how to operate it and it interfaces with their map. That means the Nightsisters were a larger civilization than we knew and it was they who came from another galaxy. And it means Peridea is likely their home or at least in their home galaxy.

So will we meet more Nightsisters when the Eye of Sion arrives at Peridea? Will they be as advanced as they once were, or remnants of that civilization like the other Nightsisters we’ve seen? Either way, it’s a very intriguing expansion of Nightsister lore.

What if the Grysk are simply a faction of the Vong, or vice versa, which doesn't hate tech or they are trying to escape from them, wanting to make the GFFA their new home?

The second basically a Nagai and Tof like scenario.

Think the Nightsisters are related or somehow connected to the Vong. As I mentioned in other posts before, both have this big thing with nature and using other creatures instead of tech.

And Canon Dathomir at least, already looked kinda like a vongformed planet (Especially in Fallen Order).

Purely because they were so an aspect of the 1990s and early 2000s. Them being immune to the force was dumb.

Timothy Zahn (who it must be said, didn’t create the Vong or have anything to do with that storyline) has said that the Grysk aren’t meant to be the Vong at all and there’s no connection.

Interesting! Did he say anything else about them?

I’m not sure that we’ll get an extragalactic threat. I suspect we’ll mainly see the Peridean Nightsisters or whatever is left of them. I do think they have to be a main player on that side of things, otherwise it’s too coincidental that Morgan is who Thrawn reached out to.

That is another thing that intrigues me. How on earth did he do that? My dude might be the smartest being in any of the GFFAs, but telepathy and/or thought transfer has never been one of his strengths.

Mostly that he’d been thinking of the Grysk for a long time before he used them in the canon stories. He has plans to use them in future Ascendancy novels, as well potentially having them in a First Order novel he wanted to write.

I think he did so with ancient Nightsister help. And I think those are the ancient aliens in the other galaxy.

As I mentioned before, I find it really interesting how much Canon Dathomir (in Fallen Order) kinda looks and feels like a vongformed planet.
    Wouldn't be surprised about a Nightsister/Vong connection.

Exactly. He must have another Nightsister with him who is reaching out to Morgan. And that means her role in the story makes complete sense. If Peridea is a Nightsister world, then Thrawn can reach out to Morgan because she’s a Nightsister. And she knows how to find the map to Peridea because that’s where her ancestors came from.

I think we will see nightsisters and nightbrothers, maybe hint at something worse like Grysk/Vong

If Peridea is where the ancient Nightsister homeworld is, I seriously hope we don’t get a ton of green swirly CGI magic. Judging by Wheel of Time and past bad fantasy movies and TV shows, that always looks cheap. Keep it to simple and contained green flames, as with the star map, and nothing more.

I strongly agree with that. The energy swirls were questionable enough in TCW, but they’d make live-action look like a CW show. Not that there’s anything wrong with those shows if they’re your cup of tea. But it’s quite a step away from the Star Wars aesthetic.

I’d rather live-action focus on witches’ less visible powers and on martial arts if it comes to it. Which is what they’ve done with Morgan, so I’m optimistic about them not going in the other direction.

At most I’d want them to not exceed the flashiness of Charal’s magic in the Ewok movies. She may turn into a raven, but at least the more flashy aspect of her magic looks somewhat consistent with the Emperor’s dark-side powers. But too much of that would probably lean too hard on the fantasy elements.

A lot of people are making Lord of the Rings comparisons after this episode, but I think Peridea has the same feeling as Mid World from The Dark Tower. Mix of high fantasy and sci fi stuff (and lobstrosities) in a post apocalyptic environment

I would absolutely love Zahn writing a first order novel. Or really a novel that isn’t Chiss related. I know he loves writing the chiss. But I wouldn’t mind him expanding out.
