Discussion Potential Threats/Antagonists For New Films

A hive mind collective of TT-8L/Y7 gatekeeper droids who are individually toted around in tiny box covered wagons by lobotomized humanoid aliens. The gatekeepers have a wireless connection to the headsets of their organic servants, and to each other.

 

Don't we have zombies/ghouls coming up? Not a total departure from darksiders sure, but it could be like a plague?

A Dark Plague-Wish, if you will.

 

That's alarmingly similar to my first thought, which was "the Mods from The Book of Boba Fett, but their cybernetic components have begun to assert themselves and erode their free will, and we eventually end up with the GFFA's answer to the Borg" giving us plenty of opportunity to explore the concept of artificial life and bolster the pivotal role of droids (collectively and individually) throughout the saga.

I can think of many interesting potential antagonists.
These have just been over-done.

 

The Inqusition

 

A new alien threat.

 

An old alien threath, maybe the Devil

 

A masked serial killer.

 

A political rival

 

This guy

 

Darth Vader?

But, i think something like the concept of a 70s style serial murder thriller with some political undertones could work, but maybe better in a movie like Lando or in one of the tv series.

 

Bala Tik who now has a long standing grudge against Han Solo and BB8.

 

A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules from the Centre of the Ultraworld-Beyond-Worlds.

 

Potential threats for the new films? Disney budget cuts!

 

I love this! I've had similar thoughts too.

If the Empire can be reborn, so can the Trade Federation. Especially is there's a fractured galaxy. And the military-industrial complex was already named as a main villain of the saga in TLJ, without that ever being followed-up upon in TROS. There are ways to amp them up as a threat too.

I think the Yuuzhan Vong can be done well, if adjusted. It's something that I feel will definitely be done, just a matter of time.

Similar to the above, I'd only be ok with "Gray Jedi" for it to be directly refuted as a bad idea.

Yeah I don't think the Saron-y idea would be that original.

Droid Rebellion is something long foreshadowed. But I think the audience would more likely see THEM as the protagonists.

Eh, we already have plenty of cybogs in Star Wars. For the hivemind idea, doing something similar through the Force is more likely and more fitting for Star Wars (not that bug Killik nonsense either though). I guess that would probably still be dark side though - but in a very different way, someone trying to meld minds together with the Force to create one collective will as a "permanent solution" to the cycle of war - but not worth the cost if people are being, well, "forced" into it.

With so many aliens, would need to focus on what makes them definitively "alien" compared to anything else seen in the GFFA so far. This is what they tried with the Yuuzhan Vong - embrace pain/death, not sensed in the Force, and biotech instead of machines. Are there any other ways to make something truly "alien" to those in Star Wars? The only other thing coming to mind right now would be the hivemind idea mentioned above.

re: the trade federation, jokes aside it's probably not a bad idea, they are familiar but also different than stormtroopers or sith

they could be brought back in some kind of team up between the hutts and trade federation

or some kind of adaptation of the stark hyperspace war, but where the trade federation is involved, or more involved, rather than just pirates

 

Bring on the droid revolution!

I envision it happening something like many RL revolutions. It starts with good droids who have legitimate grievances and want reasonable rights and protections for droids. But then, bad droids hijack the movement for their own personal gain, and it turns violent.

 

I feel there’s plenty of antagonists/villainous factions that can be explored.

For outright “bad guy” villains: a terrorist organization, parasites, corrupt political figures, mercenaries, religious zealots

For more “grey” antagonist factions: Droid revolt, anti-human or even anti-alien movements

 

Unless they insulate themselves.
