There's a part where the Mikkian brother acts a little flirty toward him and Obi-Wan blushes, or roughly thereabouts. There's also a few times when he muses about forming relationships and how it's not really for him, and he doesn't specify male or female partners in his thoughts.
After all, bi and ace people share the same romantic attraction to differing genders; its just a different type of attraction. Some ace people believe they might be bi before they realize they are ace.
So it seems like this ends with some things open for a sequel? Might we finally get to see Qi'ra apprenticeship under Maul? Maybe an announcement at NYCC
Not necessarily, the path of Dark AI opens the door to what some consider to be.... unnatural imagery.
Spoiler I don't think it is possible to guess who the mysterious stranger was based on the info provided by the book. It could have been anyone of the surviving members of Crimson Dawn after the events of Hidden Empire (Margo, Trinia, or possibly the Mizi), or of any of her former contractors (Ren, Deadstick, Ochi), or someone from the rival syndicates. In any case, it seems like someone who she expects to kill her, although the final scene points in another direction. It could even be Luke.
Spoiler They had not met prior to the Crimson Reign / Hidden Empire framing story (which takes place at some point during Leia's post-ROTJ Jedi training). Qi'ra survived that storyline so there's nothing ruling out them meeting in a future story.
Spoiler You are right. I forgot that the framing story takes part during Leia's Jedi training, so the mysterious figure at the end of Crimson Climb cannot be Luke. I listed him only for the sake of completeness anyway, but it is good to rule at least him out
I'm hoping after this we'll get a trilogy of Beckett novels similar to "The Han Solo Adventures" in the Legends continuity, the outlaw mentor needs a little love of his own outside of a valachord.
I was on PRH's site earlier looking for something else and saw The Crimson Crown as a title for an upcoming book - very disappointed it's not the second (or third) one of these books because the title is freaking perfect!
I thought the book was decent. Spoiler I think it spent too long before we get to Crimsion Dawn. But the book gets better once she joins, it was good to see the interplay with the gangs. I think the Author got the 'voice' of Paul Bettany with his lines. Needed more Maul.
Finished this today. Spoiler Given how short the book was, I wasn’t surprised when it only teased Maul at the end. That relationship deserves its own book, and then maybe wrap up the trilogy with a book covering the time between Solo and War of the Bounty Hunters/Crimson Reign. I find Qi’ra to be one of the more interesting characters created for Canon, so I’m hoping we get more of her in some form. Maybe even a story featuring Punished Kira
Not bad, though fairly perfunctory. Most of the beats are what we'd expect (but then, what else is there to do, really?) Spoiler It does seem to clash with previous material in terms of detail, though, even while directly referencing some of it. Like Sarkin himself selling Qi'ra to Vos in the comic adaptation, and the events around Qi'ra's first kill, for example. Slightly annoying to have these details referenced but changed. Also seems to reveal Maul rules all five syndicates, not just Crimson Dawn, which I don't think was said previously. It's certainly him she's meeting at the end, and the epilogue is indeed set during the Hidden Empire epilogue, though as others have said, the identity of the figure is completely open to interpretation. My guess would be Margo, but realistically I think E.K. has left it open on purpose for any potential sequel or follow-on story.
I am reading this now. Out of EK’s other Star Wars works I would put at at my second favorite so far. Just below Ahsoka but above the Padme trilogy
I complete forgot this was coming out. loved the Crimson Reign/Hidden Empire storylines. And EK Johnson’s padme books were good reads. I love me some spoilers so I’ll be thumbing through the comments in this thread.
