Yeah, I'm betting on 2027 for that reason. Also, I think a big, Biblical epic-scale Dawn of the Jedi movie is more suited to be the big 50th anniversary film than Not Episode X or Mandoverse: The Movie (I am very excited for those movies and not trying to be dismissive of them).

Not a bad thing but Rey's movie and Filoni's movie are very familiar. While Dawn of the Jedi is something completely new.

That or a movie that features Han, Luke, and Leia again in some form would also be pretty epic for a 50th anniversary. The only one that has room for that is the Filoni movie.

Unless multiple tickets were purchased BEFORE the film's release? I hate TLJ and I had to sit through it 4 times at the cinema. I really didn't like the film (and I don't know anyone who does) yet I still contributed, multiple times (8 times in fact - 4 tickets for me and 4 for other people), to that box office. So no, box office does not automatically equate to quality. *ahem* Transformers *ahem*
I'm willing to give this Rey film a try though, but probably only on D+. They need to regain my trust before they get my hard earned dosh at the movie theatre.

I would like to know the thoughts of the ones dislike ST on this movie. This is test if ST content could bring back those fans.

Why would you watch a movie that you hate four times?
Seems a rather odd thing to do.

Presales are never that high that they carry an entire run. They are for the most part exclusively for the first weekend, or, under specific circumstances, for the second one (if it falls like the one for TFA). Repeat viewings aren't big enough to carry it either. Box office doesn't equal quality, but it does show that enough people went and saw a movie and enjoyed if well enough for it to be successful. If they didn't, the drop off would be quick and very drastic.

What fans of things often fail to understand, is that they are just a small part of the whole audience. If a sizeable portion of the fanbase hates something, it is still just a rather small part of the overall audience. They seem more than they really are because they tend to be louder (in good but more so in bad), as they are more interested in voicing their opinion on the matter than those who are just casual viewers. The largest part of the audience isn't a big fan though. They go watch a movie, hope for some decent entertainment, and then move on a few days later at the latest. You won't catch them in long-lasting debates about whether something was the greatest thing ever or so bad that your childhood got #+'%, which is why using any such debate to judge the general feeling of the audience is completely useless.

I agree. I hope they knock it out the park with this movie.

Which part of I bought the tickets BEFORE the release did you not get? I'm not wasting hard earned cash. Maybe I could condition my brain to like it? [face_hypnotized]

    Never said they were.
    Never said they were.
So we agree then? (and this was the only point I was responding to.)
Agreed. But I could also surmise that a large swathe of the audience checked out.
This conversation is veering into the territory of other threads in the ST forum, where there are multiple counters and arguments for both sides. I was just offering a different opinion and a counter that box office does not equate to quality and that there are instances that a film will be seen multiple times regardless of whether it is liked.

Shall we direct it back to the topic at hand - the Rey movie?

I trust Steven Knight and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy can bring in some dissapointed fans. And with great writing and directing from new peope, can bring new life into Rey, Finn, Poe and Rose. Not to mention plenty of new characters, both Jedi and Republic. Rey and crew are now the older generation like Obi Wan in the Prequels.

This title would make an interesting connection to the ST...going from "First Order" being the villains to the heroes bringing..."A New Order" (?)

I wonder if not having the weight of the legacy characters will help make this a film that is better-received by the fan base. I'm sure they will be used in some way, but I imagine there will be a certain freshness that won't lead to such heated reactions about how they used a character. I'm looking forward to the continuation of this epic saga!

Sure, I can give you my thoughts as well.

    • I hope the movie is good, and I hope it establishes the formation of a New Jedi Order where Rey is NOT the sole hero and solely responsible for the redemption and reappearance of the Jedi. I would like to see more survivors from Order 66 and some new faces that are Force sensitive, all work collectively for the establishment of a New Jedi Order. I would like to see Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra being around in this time, though this causes a few narrative issues of course. If Rey is not presented as the only person who will somehow preserve and continue the Jedi order, then I am good. She has already stolen the Skywalker name undeservingly, her character has already been responsible for a couple of character assassinations, and at the end of the day I don't care much for her character because the sequels made me not care (predominantly TLJ and TROS, she was fine in TFA)

    • I will not go to the movie theaters to watch this movie, regardless of how good or bad other people say it is (my friends, not on these forums or the biased critics). Then again, most, if not all of my friends, will also not go to watch this in the theaters, so, I guess we'll see :p I don't really care to pay money for anything that is connected to the sequels, because I strongly believe that it has a high chance of further diluting and ruining the legacy of Star Wars. And if it doesn't, that's great. I will still wait for the movie to be released on Disney+ before I watch it.

    • I am not particularly happy with the choice of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy as the director. But I am hoping that Steven Knight's script will be a very solid one, and that she won't have the chance to change it at all. If of course Steven Knight's script gets approved and he doesn't get fired by Kathleen. The chances are not on his side given the previous record. This adds to the numbness I feel about this movie, and once again, I hope I am wrong.
CHIZNUK EDIT: You know very well this thread or any other in the Future Films forum is not for voicing for the millionth time one’s grievances with the ST.

@Master Jedi Fixxxer This is going to be the only warning I give since we have handed out several warnings about this already in numerous threads. This forum is not for discussion of the ST. We have a forum for that. Discuss the topic or go find the appropriate thread in a different forum. Those are your two options.

I keep having this thought pop up about a young padawan who is connected to an ancient dark side entity but whose lineage was somehow hidden for centuries. The more this padawan is trained and grows in the Force, the more an ancient dark side grows and becomes "awakened". So the dilemma is whether to continue training this padawan, knowing that they are just feeding into this growing darkness, or to stop training them knowing they may be the only hope they have and the fear of losing them to this dark side entity.
Rey, being a young "master" herself, does not know what to do and must consult with the group of Force ghost masters on this matter and find out more about this ancient mythology (and perhaps even lead her to a long, lost Jedi in exile named Ahsoka).

I hated the ST since TFA for being a reductive copy/paste job of the OT. However, I see this film as an opportunity to establish a distinct new era beyond the repetitive underdog rebels vs big bad empire conflict, alongside with the long awaited Jedi resurgence.
