Discussion Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Star Wars Movie - NOT FILMING April 7th, 2024 (Blame Fredrik!)

Yes, as i remember the aligations of poor performance of Daisy Ridley during the Sequels.

 

Her performance in TFA is a bit too student-y, IMO. I think she gives her best performance in TLJ.

 

She was definitely still giving a drama school performance in TFA (unsurprising, as she was just out of school…), and improved pretty significantly with TLJ and TROS. And has blown her ST performances apart with some recent roles, wherein she shows a lot more range and personality (I never got a sense of Rey having much personality). So whatever you thought of her acting in the ST, she’s gotten very good as an actor since, IMO.

 

I think she gave best performance in Star Wars during TROS. And only gotten so mutch better.

 

I imagine we will get an update on the Rey movie soon, now that the strike is over.

 

I hope the creatives behind this film do have something a little more compelling up their sleeve than, ‘the bad guys in this film don’t want the Jedi back because they’re the Jedi.’

We’ve now seen the Jedi Order destroyed twice in about forty years. So what has Rey and her crew done differently to make the unsavoury folks of the galaxy so worried.

 

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has talked about this, in past during and after Celebration. She is big on cultural history.

 

Something that her background as a documentary filmmaker can benefit Star Wars worldbulding. They need to get out of that rebels/ empire playgound at some point and its refreshing to hire directors that might have other visual approaches than filming another destruction porn scene from Manhattan. I am not saying she will succeed, but i hope she will use her background to expand the Star Wars visual language.

 

Maybe something like Lucas' version that Maul was the godfather of the Crime Syndicate. Only that instead of Maul there would be another darksider, maybe even one of the Knights of Ren who has now become a crime boss after the fall of the First Order.

I really hope they fully utilize her. I'm all for new characters, but Rey has a lot of gas left in the tank as a primary protagonist, and Filoni can now speak more into making sense of her character post ST.

Sounds like its beginning of a new saga with more movies coming.

Well, I had a loose thought that Ransolm Casterfo would appear in the film as a cameo as the chancellor of the republic/alliance or something. Played by Tom Hiddleston

 

Would be nice way to have connection with Leia as they used to work together. And he be ally of Rey and help her with funding and such for this new Jedi Order.

 

Hiddleston in SW would be AWESOME!!!

 

Hiddleston should be saved for young Palpatine.

 

Eh, he is too old for role of young Palpatine. Young is 20's not 40's.

 

This role is for Matt Smith.

 

No get someone younger who is around mid to late 20's best for an unknown actor.
