Full Series Viewing Order of Star Wars the Clone Wars

Thanks for this thread almost asked this as I want to watch all of Clone Wars and Bad Batch before Season 2 comes out

 

For the first time im watching TCW Show chronologically and its a Good Experience
On the Star Wars website there is a Timeline

 

I've never seen the whole show in chronological order, but it would be interesting to try it out. I really loved the nonlinear release order of the first seasons, though. It suits the episodic style of the series, the constant jumping around between different sets of characters, worlds and conflicts. I got a lot of aha moments that way, when I finally recognized a character or realized that the story took place before one I'd already seen. It was great!

 

For me watching chronologically creates disruptions to the flow and feeling of the series and highlights continuity errors. With a few possible exceptions, I much prefer release order.

Besides, for all its flaws I think The Clone Wars movie is a much better starting point than Cat and Mouse.

 

You should try to watch TCW in Chronological Order its a Good experience and its better in my opinion

 

With TCW being my favorite show I have watched it in different orders but chronological is def a fulfilling experience.

 

I am rewatching right now in release order. But one day I will not be lazy and rewatch in chronological order but today is not that day.

also I am going to rewatch all the shows but I just realized I have forgotten TOTJ already. Lol. I’ll watch it before I watch seige of Mandalore as I think that will fit best

 

Yep, you would need to fit TOTJ Episode 2-3 and then 1 before TCW, then Episode 4 around season 2 of TCW and then TOTJ Episode 5 around the Seige of Mandalore arc.
Then ROTS then TCW Season 7 Ep11-12 then Bad Batch then...

I’ve been giving this a lot more consideration. From season 4 on, production order is definitely the way to go. For the first three seasons, I’ve actually settled on something that combines elements of production order, release order, and chronological order.

 

Sorry for the double post, but I also want to mention that the official chronology contains several continuity errors due to several stories being moved around for various reasons, some of which I still can’t comprehend.

This is why I find it helpful instead to use production order as a starting point, use release order to help fix the arcs in the early seasons, and then move the half-dozen or so episodes that jump around in the timeline to their chronological positions for a much better flow overall.

Although personally I prefer to keep the Domino Squad arc together rather than distribute the episodes chronologically, and I prefer to keep the Christophsis prequels where they were produced rather than watch them before the feature film, at least for the moment. I also keep Supply Lines and Ambush with the Ryloth arc, even though Ambush takes place before Cloak of Darkness. Others may prefer to place them before the Nute Gunray arc.

So I end up with something like this:

I personally put "Lightsaber Lost" before "Grievous Intrigue", since the ending of the former ties with the beginning of the latter, with Ahsoka, Tera Sinube and the younglings.

 

Good call. I had it that way before, but I forgot why and switched it around for viewing simplicity. I’ll fix it back.

I’m also still torn on Supply Lines and Ambush. On one hand, it’s clear that Ventress’s failure in Ambush precedes Dooku’s warning in Cloak of Darkness. But Placing them before the Ryloth arc ties it all together, and as a bonus it keeps the clips at the beginning consistent with what we’ve already seen (which most will agree doesn’t matter, but I like trying to keep it consistent regardless).

 

I didn't mention those because you said you did it on purpose, but I don't think "Supply Lines", "Ambush" and the "Ryloth" arc are meant to be seen back to back. There a good deal of time between the three. Same with "Rookies" and "ARC Troopers".

 

Yes those are intentional. I really don’t like splitting up the two season 3 Clone episodes except to stick Rookies between them. Placing Clone Cadets in the first season just kills the emotional punch of that story for me.

As for Supply Lines and Ambush, I don’t like placing them any earlier than after the Malevolence arc, mainly because while I can overlook the appearance of Onaconda Farr in the opening of Ambush, the memorably red visual of the Abregado system is harder for me to ignore.

Although I haven’t actually tried watching them in this order yet, so it’s all subject to change if it feels wrong. On my last viewing, I was more concentrating on getting as close to production order as possible, but I did feel that at least certain episodes would probably work better in their chronological placement, like Senate Murders for instance. I could make a more strict chronological version, but I prefer more of a hybrid.

And I’m much more comfortable with moving episodes to point later than they were produced than to a point earlier than they were produced, so it’s only by virtue of connecting Ambush to the Ryloth arc that I’ve moved Supply Lines at all.

Thank you. Yes but I haven’t tried to incorporate it into my viewing order because I tend to stick with seasons 1-6 and rarely bother with the post-Lucas material anyway.

I think I’d be most inclined to just watch the whole thing between TCW and The Bad Batch if I was running the full gamut though.

It starts pre-Heroes on Both Sides, but continues on past Water War (Phase II Clones) then overlaps with Victory and Death in the final scene, so it isn't possible to put in a single place. Not unless you watch it in short increments as you go

I've watched the YJA with my son last summer and he loved them. New ones are to be released next month I believe.
I'm surprised at how many deleted scenes there are for TVW. Some of them would be difficult in placing in a timeline as well.

 

Just keep in mind it's meant for the preschool/kindergarten age group... when I was younger and without kids I probably wouldn't have watched it voluntarily. But my older one is 5 so she's the perfect age for it. As far as kids shows go, it's quite good.

The new episodes should have some cool stuff.
