I did like the battleship fight in GVK. The underwater fight is how I pictured the original end going, with Godzilla retreating. But Kong jumping like a flea from ship to ship, comon now. The end battle was cool, if hard to see. But you have to sit through a lot to get to that. I prefer the original, but I get it's silly.

Sadly, everything I see or hear about this movie makes it sound/look worse. I don't expect to like it, but that's ok. I'm very happy with G14, GKOTM, and KSI, and I'm happy enough with GvK. If that's all that I get, then that's enough.

And, so far, Toho's Reiwa era is great. I just wish it wasn't so long between films.

Everything about this film has convinced me that on opening night I will rewatch Minus One.

On a wildly different note- has anyone here seen this kids show Godzilla Island? It was made in late 90's after Vs Destroya and uses toys and puppets instead of actors in suits. Also the few humans have three stage sets and a lot of green screen. Each episode is 3mins long (like the Clone Wars Micro Series) and aired one a day back then. Toho has been posting them on YouTube twice a week.

When I say meant for kids I mean like 6-8y olds. It is corny as can be but honestly I love it. In high school I made a few X-files movies using action figures and it's just like that only I wasnt able to cover up my hands lol. (The plot of my first one was same as '98 Godzilla but with Mulder & Scully and used 11" Heisei Godzilla)

Am on episode 60-something. The short run time gives it the feel of reading daily comic strips.

Here is link for first episode

Dive in and give it a try. With the short length you can binge a whole bunch easily.

I will thanks. I am a big fan of Godzilla's Revenge and KK vs. Godzilla, so that should tell you my tastes.

We stopped showing Minus One on Thursday. Seven weeks and a day is pretty good run. There were quite a few movies that came and went while it stuck around. It was originally supposed to be a two week limited release.

Also I got one of the two lobby posters! [face_dancing]

Is this the Thread for talking about The Apple TV Show, Monarch Legacy Of Monsters? I absolutely loved the show but have questions! It's like a Godzilla King Kong Monster Verse genre mixed with The X Files Stranger Things and The Goonies! My main question is about William Randa!

    I'm wondering about Bill myself.

Can't help but wonder if he's alive too. Especially with the finale ending on Skull Island.

The time distortion thing is bothering me a little bit with GVK too. Like, how much time passed between when Kong went into Hollow Earth and when he joined the fight in Hong Kong? They seem simultaneous in the movie, but with M:LOM I can't help but think a few days had to have passed.

What an emotional final episode, and with Godzilla and Kong cameos no less!

    A couple of G-related things...

    (1) Finished MONARCH. Over all, I think I'd give the series a solid B-, with a few episodes, the last one in particular, rating higher. The problem for me wasn't "too much human stuff" so much as it was "too much human stuff that has nothing to do with MONARCH or the Monsterverse, and not done in a particularly interesting way". To each his or her own, but the series didn't manage to make me care overmuch about the characters' dating history, relationships, squabbles, etc. Still, I enjoyed it overall, it had some very good moments, and I'd say it is still worth a look if you are into Godzilla, giant monsters, and/or the Monsterverse.
    (2) I love seeing the GxK toys hit the stores, and I love that some of them are pretty reasonably priced, because to some extent a franchise needs to get kids interested in order to "have legs". I know, of course, that collectors and adult G-fans are buying these toys as well, but I am hopeful that the proliferation of G-toys over time means at least some are being bought up by kids or for kids. Yesterday I bought a Kong w/Mecha-fist for $10 which is UNHEARD of these days when it comes to action figures. Bravo. I hope the G-toys sell a lot, and that a lot of kids are bashing and smashing them in monster fights on the floor the next couple of months!
    (3) I often describe my extended family as very indulgent. Latest example, my brother gifting me the RC Godzilla that just came out. Okay, it IS a bit pricey. It is also not an easy thing to store or display (it is big and the tail is not removable). But .... wow, what a great toy. It walks (with stomping sounds), it turns right or left, it roars on command and best of all ... it shoots a heat ray. Okay, it shoots a fine mist of water that the lights in the toy make LOOK like Godzilla's heat ray but WOW it looks so super cool and doubly so because Godzilla's spines light up in a building sequence as that "charging" sound effect from the Monsterverse movies plays. This video isn't bad but it doesn't honestly do it justice (if you are interested you can probably find better videos online). This is a case where the toy looks BETTER than most of the pictures and videos you'll find. And that atomic breath feature...WOW...

That's what I liked about the Monarch show so much the human side of it felt more like Stranger Things or X Files or Goonies yet you still get gteat monsters! Also superb acting story and script! I also thought it had a really good grasp on connecting with the movies! Like you said to each his her own whatever right! I'd give Monarch a 10 out of a 10 Solid A

[I'm wondering If Bill Randa was seen running through the jungle on the video in Monarch, was that after they all left in the boat like he got left behind? because Bill clearly got eaten by a skull crusher I just watched the movie Kong Skull Island yesterday. Unless he got thrown up or climbed out after Kong killed the Skull Crusher?]

I appreciated that it didn’t tell an individualistic story, lionizing a few individual heroes, and instead focused on a collective failure. One of the best Godzilla movies, IMO. No shmaltz in this one. I think this review covers why I appreciate it most: https://www.cnet.com/culture/entertainment/shin-godzilla-is-the-dunkirk-of-godzilla-movies/

Regarding Godzilla x Kong... as has been noted above, there have been Godzilla movies in an astonishing variety of "flavors"... grim, silly, weird, fanciful, "juvenile", etc. Given that, I am going in anticipating something a bit goofy/zany, which doesn't mean it can't be fun. True, I'd prefer something closer in tone to the 2014 Godzilla, or GMK, or even GvK, but if they lean a bit more into the crazy "Monsterverse" vibe of the trailers, I'm still willing to give it a try. Especially if they deliver some solid monster fights!

Yeah it takes a lot for me to outright hate a Godzilla movie. Even '98 has some good parts- mainly the first 30-40mins. I'm much harsher on other franchises like Star Wars or LotR.

I agree the first 40 minutes of Godzilla 98 was (fairly) good but then it went downhill fast. By the time they were being chased around Madison Square Garden by baby Godzilla raptors I wanted to walk out of the theater.

My brain began screaming at approximately the point when Herbie attempted to save humanity by driving vertically up Godzilla's leg.

I really wish I could be as hyped as others are for these Monsterverse franchise movies, but I'm just not. Of course I'll watch the movie, likely when it comes to Redbox or even HBO Max; but I can't see any incentive to see it in the theaters. I like the origin movies as they serve as a novelty; it's the giant monster against the humans. It plays on the scale nicely; something that IMO is lost when you focus on the giant monster fighting against another giant monster. So this will be a giant ape war movie, and then a few months later we'll have another ape war movie. Both apparently involving humans as the expendables.
