I would prefer to see some recent gameplay video over the story trailer. It has potential but I get the feeling the story will be rushed and won't be filled until a bunch of dlc packs release. Cautiously optimistic right now.

$130 Version of Star Wars Outlaws Under Fire as Ubisoft Prices Increase

Uh yeah, a few nice story trailers with maybe 5 minutes of actual gameplay shown to date won't exactly entice the masses to come scrambling to pay a premium for a new title. SE got away with something similar to that when FFVII:Remake was first released, but that was riding on some 20+ years of anxious anticipation for many people. Even Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West had their premium packages; but that only came out after the game was established and critically acclaimed.

If I considered pre-ordering this game, rest assured it would be the standard $70 version. If I want the bells and whistles that come with the premium package then I can wait for sales in the future.

lol yeah I'll wait till it's like 30 dollars

I do generally like the exploration aspect of the games that this awful company produces though, so give me a swoop bike instead of a camel and give me a spaceship to fly to other planets to explore and I'm pretty good with a generic character and storyline

    So, six months later then.

As to the Ultimate edition, enough people must buy them

The only extra in the Ultimate edition is like 2 cosmetics and a digital art book plus what is in Gold Edition. Gold Edition has the 2 DLCs and 2 cosmetics

You see, I wouldn't go so far as to say that I wouldn't pay retail for the standard game; the game has actually piqued my curiosity with its character and the gameplay that has been shown.

I only held up on waiting to purchase JFO/JS just because IMO that notion of playing a Jedi with insane Force powers and of course lightsaber mastery was just redundant to me. JFO I got as a PS Plus freebie, and I picked up JS last year when it was on sale for under $20.

Well, that six months quip is based on their Avatar game, RRP £70, now going for £35 in some places. It only came out December, so it's less than six months.

Story trailer impressions: aggressively generic and broad, it feels like the “story” for another mass-produced open-world Ubisoft game. However the Star Wars setting is already much more inviting than pseudo-historical Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy commando stuff, etc. Even if the overarching plot is thin we might still get a Witcher 3 type open-worlder where it’s more about the journey than the destination. Main protagonist feels very bland but that’s maybe intentional, the little gecko squirrel will have the personality. The questions on my mind: how many “full sized” planets are we getting, how much depth will space combat/exploration have, will sabacc be awesome or lame, how much of the “side quest” content will feature high quality cinematics like we’ve seen in trailers. In other words, will this be a game to really get lost in or just hammer through the main story.

Still feels like a day 1 purchase for me :D

I dunno. I like the main character design, but so much of this trailer just screams a lot of what I've come to dislike about modern games that leave me just shrugging.

Cute shoulder side-kick who probably gives you instructions and feedback and never shuts up.
    Lots of over-acting.
    Too much story.
    Everything spelled out.
    Single path rollercoaster gameplay.

And yeah, it does seem a bit generic.

A lot of that is what I'd already have suggested about JFO/JS, but that's like sacrilege talk here for whatever the reason. I'm more inclined to giving this game a chance up front. The main character is intriguing to me. It's refreshing to have a single player SW game that doesn't involve the protagonist having supernatural powers.

Oh I get it. Now that will be the trendy theme for stories moving forward (games, comics, shows, and subsequent films) where every protagonist gets to have Force Sensitive powers.

    Question is when:

    1. Revealed in the plot of the main quest.
    2. A tease at the very end of the game.
    3. A DLC "power boost"
    4. The twist for the sequel, gently foreshadowed throughout the first game.

I'm not sure why people seem surprised or upset that a story for an open world game seems generic. Essentially the story for the vast majority of open world games are just fetch quests given to the player to send them off to different areas to give them a reason to explore the entire map.

I strongly doubt that “Kay” will have any force powers, at least not any that impact gameplay. My understanding is that during the production of Jedi:FO, LFL was very stingy in what they’d allow regarding the force and Jedi material in general, they initially wanted the game to be a scoundrel/blasters shooter and that became a point of contention with Respawn during early development. I think they’ve wanted a pure “scum and villainy” game for awhile and they won’t mix the concepts just to sell a DLC pack, if they really were that money-hungry we’d be seeing them license the property far more liberally.

I’m guessing we’ll probably see *some* Force material in this one but not from the protagonist . . .

In terms of long run ambitions, they probably want a Rosckstar-style full blown open world multiplayer game as well, whether piggybacking off this one or a sequel. That’s where we might see players having force powers to some extent.

I'm just happy that I wouldn't necessarily need to be concerned about playing the balancing act as I'm going from one area to another.

Pssshh, that platforming sequence was easy, once you figured out the pathway [face_mischief]

    The sliding sequences though . . . [face_beatup]

    Ah internet priorities.
Another reason the big game companies get away with terrible pricing

Game Informer published a short preview article with a few details on how space exploration will play out:

    • Every planet/moon has an “orbit” zone which can be explored with your ship, but it sounds like these zones are relatively small. They don’t encompass the whole planet and when you hit the boundary your ship will hyperdrive to whatever destination is plugged in.
    • Design team wanted the orbit zones to feel populated, not endless empty space.
    • At least four planets/moons are confirmed: Tatooine, Kijimi, Akiva, and Toshara.
    • Space exploration/combat is supposed to feel very light and easy to pick up with simple controls.
It sounds to me like they are having to manage the difficult task of making an “open-world” game where the player has a starship, and yet won’t be able to actually take off and fly to any part of a planet they want. From what we saw in the gameplay trailer it seems that they’re going for a cinematic framework to manage the space travel, so it still feels exciting even if it’s not the true freedom-of-movement some might have hoped for.

I remember once upon a time there was hope that the latest Battlefront games for the current generation of consoles would actually feature Ground-to-Space fluid travel and combat. I think the closest that we got was in the original BF2 game for the earlier consoles where you could board an enemy cruiser and take over (on foot) the gunners and base. Obviously a single-player game would be more demanding in terms of what the lead character needs to do to advance the story.

I remember playing No Man’s Sky years ago and it was mostly just collecting rocks on these barren procedurally generated wastelands where nothing happens. There was no story at all. It might be the most over-hyped game of all time lol.

Even though there are more planets in No Man's Sky than anyone could possibly visit (unless they spent their entire lifetime doing nothing but playing the game) don't pretty much all of them look almost identical to each other?

Is No Man's Sky free-to-play yet? Just going by the concept of it, why wouldn't it be? I remember when it came out that it was incredibly overhyped. I just didn't really understand the premise of it. The notion of planet-hopping just because you can didn't really intrigue me all that much.
