Mini Series "The Acolyte" Season 1 Discussion (Spoilers Allowed)

No I mentioned early first social media reactions in my post above regarding episode 3. Where do you believe I got said info? From an early Twitter reaction. There aren't any official posted reviews for this series the day prior to release. First reactions are positive 90% of the time and are generally studio shills who want access to their stars (for interviews, podcasts, etc.) and early access to their product.

 

Avoiding this thread for like 20 hours is gonna be tough

 

What is it that you think makes one’s review “official?”

 

Not a first reaction over Twitter. Not rocket science. We all know how the early social media reaction game goes. The real question is why Disney has embargoed reviews until day of release if they are confident in the series?

To get people curious because there are no official reviews yet so we frantically panic and hype the release even more getting more views? No idea though… maybe because other releases where reviews had not been embargoed prevented people to watch it on release date because they saw bad reviews and thought it was not good and then it was and they watched later on?

 

History says you embargo till release day when not confident. When confident, you let everyone review it anywhere from a week to at least a few days early. You're making my point though with your comment. If people, as you say above, hypothetically saw bad reviews when the embargo was lifted early for past series or films and it kept them from watching on release day, this current day and date embargo would thus imply that the studio is not confident in this series and is in fact expecting bad reviews.

 

So if I want people to get all worked up because they think I think I am gonna bomb and therefore augmenting engagement prior to release and creating a fake hostile environment to then enhance the show goodness I embargo reviews?

 

The only time early reviews don’t count is when they’re positive. People conveniently forget how TROS got trounced by early reviews.

Anyway, I’m very much looking forward to seeing tomorrow! We’re almost there!

 

TROS embargo was in place till the 18th. The film dropped on the 20th of December.... Not the example I woulda used. and the early reactions were mostly positive post premiere on the 16th of December-

I get the sense that Acolyte doesn’t have the big expectations riding on it of previous shows, it’s not bringing back legacy actors like with Obi-wan, it’s not a major debut like with Mando season 1, even Ahsoka felt like a bigger Star Wars “event” going into the premiere. That should give it space to establish its own identity whatever that may be.

Got it. But as this is one continuous story, and not an episodic/ serial TV show where there’s a wrap-up/ moral lesson at the end of each episode, I don’t mind that at all.

Good point. It’s a lot like Andor in that regard. Which bodes well.

I heard from on YouTube, KH and Rocha talks that writing is more closer to Andor. They like it not loving it.

 

And they felt the same about Andor. Best sign yet that the show’s good.

 

They are big Andor fans soo good signa as KH has been disappointed lately. He liked it enough to watch more.

 

Right, and I remember Rocha being a little underwhelmed, but still positive, about the first three episodes of Andor. So this seems to track with that.

 

Yess, same like Andor for them at beginning. Rocha liked The Acolyte a little more then KH.

 

The only critic’s opinion that matters is that guy Star Wars Theory

We need more old Jedi that have lived for centuries besides Yoda.

 

Do we kow anything certain about runtimes? I need to calculate how many hours before I have to wake up tomorrow morning to watch the 2 ep before going to work as my husband dissuaded me to stay up and watch at drop time.
Even though I just read an article about intermittent sleep and how it could be beneficial for ADHD and that may lay the theoretical ground to sleep a few hours wake up for the drop and then go back to bed
