I stand by my theory from last week that this was likely a 6 episode series until someone at D+ decided to chop it into 8 episodes.

If this isn't the new canon it should be.

Also, it makes you wonder whether Qimir and Sol have a history together or if he just read Sol's mind.

I got major Magneto vibes from that scene. Though knowing this show, it could just as easily turn out to be something simple like the Jedi can't read him if they can't see his face (as others have mentioned).

Since when have helmets prevented such in SW? That's a first, no? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Ya that came outta nowhere. Also, won't Sol be able to just read Mae's mind since the X-Men telepath thing is a SW thing now?

By the way, I'm loving all these names for Sith Dude.

I think his name should officially be "Smilo Ren" until his Sith name is known. "Darth Nameless" is the runner up.

A little theory on the Twin Switch thing - since Mae has forsaken Qimir as her boss, she’s a bit in limbo right now, especially regarding her initial purpose for going after Sol. It’s not immediately clear why she wants to accompany Sol back to Coruscant; she could still want to kill him, or she could have bigger plans towards the overall Jedi Order, or just have a desire to confront Sol beyond trying to kill him. Regardless, it’s much more ambiguous what her purpose is now, while I think we’re all fairly certain Osha is likely going to get corrupted by Qimir, and is even likely going to be the one to kill Sol over whatever happened to her family.

...But what if the goal here is dramatic symmetry, echoing the titles?

Like... while Qimir relates the events of the death of the Coven to Osha one “certain point of view,” Sol honors his promise to Osha, but with Mae, relaying the events from his own “certain point of view,” with Qimir seeking to manipulate Osha and Sol seeking to offer some true resolution to Mae?

A complete switch between the sisters would feel unlikely, but even a nuanced one, where Mae gets shaken by the actions her mother took and Osha gets enraged by Sol actually killing her or something like that, could be crazy...

Being able to read people, even while wearing a mask/helmet or not, has been a SW thing since forever. How else would Obi-wan "force wave" his way from having to show his identification. This force-trick worked on the weak minded, and that means he had to connect to that mind. And Luke certainly read his father's emotions and conflicted feelings, while Vader wore a mask.

Perhaps its not really reading this thoughts. Like ... I can tell you have pancakes this morning for breakfast and you're currently thinking about that overdue book you didn't return to the Sith Library. And more like the emotions and truth of the matter. Sol can't read this guy at all. Not even as a dark sider. Perhaps the mask is shielding that emotional connection. And that's definitely a handy trick for the Sith to have when hiding for a 1000 years.

Waiting for Bor to weigh in on this before making up my mind ;)

When the Sith still had his mask on and said "Don't you recognize me" or whatever he just meant "Don't you recognize me from when you staked out my little alchemist shop on that other planet?" Then when he was unmasked, Yord did indeed recognize him. I think that's all that was intended by that line. It's cluing in anybody in the audience who hasn't guessed his identity that this is somebody we've already seen in a scene with Sol.

Duel of the Fates still clears. Maaaybe tied with Battle of the Heroes. Better than anything from Episode 2.

Dude literally says if I take my mask off you'll be able to read my thoughts though. That's the new aspect.

Next theory: Vernestra is part of a counteroffensive that kills Darth Chimera. Mae possibly also does not survive. Seeing as the Jedi seem to know about the Rule of Two somehow ([face_plain]) , they think they've destroyed the Master in search of a new Apprentice. And Master "don't tell the High Council." decides to not tell the High Council. Aaaaand done.

Side note, it seems like Ki Adi-Mundi has been a naysayer for a looooooong time!

"A splinter faction of Jedi? Impossible."
"Impossible. The Sith have been extinct for a millenia."
"Count Dooku is an idealist. Not a murderer."

In sales, we call this "strong and wrong." oof.

This. I'm referring to the force-proof Magneto mask or whatever. Not saying Jedi reading people isn't a thing.

Yeah, and the reason he knows so much about Sol is because of Mae.

Which literally makes zero sense. It's as if we are reconning that aspect for some reason for the sake of this story.

If you're trying to argue that the Jedi have always been able to read people's thoughts, you can stop because neither of us is arguing against that. The question is when has a helmet been able to prevent the Jedi from doing it, or is this a new concept?

Tough one. It's really well done (especially the action), and I appreciate that the swap was confirmed in this episode. I still like the two episodes being separate, for the framing of Day symbolically emphasizing its ending. Plus, I think if the two were together, most of the attention would go to the 'second half'.

It just doesn't feel so good now having fewer characters I'm invested in.

Yes the Magneto helmet thing is the out of nowhere aspect of reading minds. Obviously Luke could sense his father's feelings and Vader always had his mask on....until the end of course.

Wow, this was a really brilliant episode in so many ways.

Maybe the best single episode of Star Wars Disney has produced on many different levels.

Manny be a great Sith. I loved his look, his dialog, how he uses cortosis to disrupt lightsabers. It all worked. The tree cutting, the using the Force to impale multiple Jedi on his Saber at once. Great stuff.

The lack of character shields. Again, brilliant. Jecki's death scene, just wow. Same with Yord.

Even Osha & Mae's story got strengthened here after some meh before this.

    Sol is great.

It may be a bit of action over substance, maybe Manny is a bit too strong, but that's minor stuff. I very much appreciate what this show delivered on this episode.

They also gotta explain how Sol doesn't report to Ki Adi Mundi that the Sith is a Sith.....and explain why Anakin could never levitate lol. He woulda never needed that high ground...

Either Sol has to die or he is a scumbag who doesn't report it.

I can't remember the last time I felt so diametrically conflicted about a tv episode or movie.

The lightsaber choreography was absolutely stunning. Jecki in particular was beyond amazing, both with sabers and in hand to hand. The cinematography was fantastic. And I really liked the music, especially at the beginning of the episode.

But at the same time, I am absolutely gutted at Jecki's death. She showed that she was an absolute badass, and then bam! Brutally slaughtered. I'm even bummed at Yord's demise. He may have had his quirks, but he meant well and in the end... That was harsh. I did appreciate his blink-and-miss-it trick using Darth Q's own helmet against him. That was clever. Poor Yord.

9/10. My one quibble is that it feels like a scene got cut out between Mae stunning Sol and Osha and Mae talking at the edge of that precipice. The transition there didn't make much sense, and it makes me think we missed something.

That is a really excellent point! That scene has always extremely bugged me for exactly that reason. I agree, this now makes a lot more sense and I bet you're right.
