Mini Series The Acolyte 1.05 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

At first I liked that we were getting some sweet, sweet lightsaber action but then seeing so many Jedi get killed very easily by ONE DUDE made the Jedi look like bumbling idiots. Just completely incompetent. It's like the Keystone cops.

Those bugs were more of a challenge to the Sith Master than eight Jedi! Ha!

Why indeed? Makes no damn sense.

 

10/10. I don't care about the weird irregularities; I was on the edge of my seat throughout. Fantastic battles and pacing.

Anybody else shout out an Obi-Wanesque "Nooooo!" when Jecki was killed? She out Ahsoka'd Ahsoka as a gutsy padawan in that episode. So gutted she died (npi).

My favourite moment might have been when Yord was talking about the Sith's bewildering, odd combat style. He's only been trained in the Jedi way and never had to face the unknown like this. The Jedi clearly haven't met their match to this degree for a long time and you can see the shadow of fear in his face. He's shaken and his unfamiliarity with this level of skill and trickery costs him his life. Alas poor Yord, we knew him sort of well enough.

Just how dark is Sol's past? He's so good in a fight but he came close to going full-on Anakin there. That anger made him very powerful.

Last week, someone here called out the use of light attracting those giant moth things as a way to disable the Sith. Kudos. Didn't cross my mind.

 

I like how the 2 jedi stood aside while the fight was going on as they waited for their sabers to actually works. Shows they are pretty useless without their sabers

 

This is a 10/10 episode. Love it.

 

I bet the Jedi (especially the young ones) have never experienced actual combat against anything other than non force users. They have been living in peace for a long time.

 

Near the end of the episode, as Qimir looks at the unconscious Mae I swear I heard the beginning of Kylo Ren's theme. Qimir also reminds me a lot of the Force user Ren from the comic book "Rise of Kylo Ren"

 

Giving it a 9/10

Probably the mosts suspenseful and tense SW anything in a long, long time. I knew that the Jedi were very likely to all die, and yet I was on the edge-of-my-seat the entire time hoping that they didn't. Would have liked a bit more effort from the Red Shirt Jedis. i get that they haven't probably had to really deal with a threat like this, and have gotten soft with their saber skills, but ... they're still knights. They should hold a bit.

I really like the unmasked Darth Qimir more than the masked up version. He's eery and funny while wearing the Mask, but even more disturbing and deadly without, when you can see his eyes.

 

I'm also confused by Mae's motivations. First she wants to kill the Jedi but then all of that changes when she finds out that Osha is alive and she wants to surrender to the Jedi but then she resists arrest, and fights her sister Osha, knocks her out and impersonates her and goes off with Sol. Why is she impersonating Osha? Presumably because Mae knows that the Jedi are looking for her and she is hiding from them in plain sight...but an hour before she wanted to find the Jedi and turn herself in. So...what's up with all of that? It's going to be even more baffling if she kills Sol. How many flipflop changes of heart is this character going to have?

Osha's just not that into me. I'm knocking her out and going to impersonate her to I can leave with Sol!

I know a lot people will handwave all of this away by saying, "well Mae's crazy" but that's not a good excuse to me. It doesn't feel like Mae's actions are inconsistent because she's crazy. It feels like they're inconsistent because the writers are inconsistent.

 

It isn't. But this isn't the topic to discuss this.

 

I heard Kylo Ren’s theme three times in the episode, each when something on screen connected to Kylo Ren.

What’s taken from comic book character Ren actually looks good adapted for live action.

 

Is Qmire the first Ren?

 

yeah I’m kinda expecting more of this inconsistency. There is a lot of shifting going on. The sisters don’t have a particularly consistent bond and their reasonings seem to be open to shifting when needed.

 

Certainly not out of the realms of possibility by any means.

 

Seems way too early in the timeline really. But then I guess we don’t really know who the Knights of Ren are. They could be undead spirits for all we know. No longer out of the realm of possibility

 

Leave to SW fans to ignore the character announcing themselves as a Sith, in a show about the Sith, and speculating that it's all really about the Knights of Ren.

 

Indeed. It's going to be a real head scratcher if the finale is a battle between Mae and Osha.

 

The Knights of Ren could be sith. We don’t know anything about them.

 

That's pretty far out there. Nothing we've heard about KoR would indicate they are a kind of Sith.

 

Knights of Ren are different to the sith. They live out of chaos while Sith wants Order. I woundt surprised if Ren is before the Sith

 

Well what do we know about them? Going by he rise of skywalker I guess they are working for palpatine?

 

Doubt it, but I would not mind if the show ended up basically telling us that he is into that "Ren" thing and like perhaps he is a lone Dark side user. I noticed Qimir saying something like "I am not denying my darkside" (forgot the exact words), and I remember Ren in "Rise of Kylo ren" talking to little Ben Solo saying "If you ever get tired of your old uncle then seek me out and I will teach you how to use your Shadow".

Now I mostly expect the Acolyte to be something traditional Sith and apprentice but I would not mind if it was actually about other Dark siders.

 

I did not say that. But they sure used Kylo Ren's theme and Quimir just looks a lot like Ren. I don't expect them to go the Ren route so to speak. But I would not mind.

 

I saw quite a few funny “thirst” tweets over Qimir on Twitter this morning.

Its okay for Kylo Ren to have issues with the LIGHT, but Mae's issues, is a writer room problem? I think there are other underlying issues that you not fully revealing...

First off before Darth Smiley's trek with Mae on Khofar, he told her she made a deal don't all of a sudden change the deal, so Darth Smiley sensed her conflict, so Mae didn't all of a sudden change, like she's crazy. They were on a ship together he sensed her conflict.
Mae was certain, she wanted to give herself up, BUT Kelnacca is dead who would believe her plight? I Believe if she got to Kelnacca before his demise. She would have convinced him, and like a Wookie he would have protected her from the blood thirsty Jedi. The jedi would have listened to Kelnacca and subsequently arrested Mae for trial.
Jecki was out for blood, there was no way for Mae to reason with Jecki at that point. Mae's decsion to give herself up changed, and now extinguished and snuffed out, now all she wanted to do is escape. she was trapped, kelnacca her only life's blood is dead...
I applaud Amandla for such a duel acting job, I can't wait to get her Hot Toy! it will be placed right next to my Reva Hot toy
