The passive-aggressive trolling is duly noted. Take it to Comms if you have a problem with the hate speech policy.

    I'll stop.

But you guys are practically doing the internet equivalent of boarding up windows before some major verdict is read out that people are going to riot over.

They are simply trying to keep this place from becoming a haven for trolls so actual conversations about Star Wars can occur.

Have you seen what most online boards are like these days?

On the contrary, and in all seriousness, I’m actually quite enjoying the roll out of this latest series. Regardless of how anybody feels about the current direction of Star Wars, we haven’t seen this level of collective fan engagement since the early years of the ST era.

There were for sure many more people talking about Mando in 2019. And since then, on and off.

Mando Season 2 was peak in Star Wars interest the way I experienced convos about Star Wars in the past decade.

I don't think Star Wars TV Shows feel special anymore.

When we got the first season of Mando everyone was curious to see what a Star Wars TV Show would look like. Whether it would hold up against the movies. It was said to be given a budget of Game of Thrones to work with. And so we got series 1 and there wasn't a lot to talk about in Series 1, but everyone was just so curious to see how a Star Wars TV show would expand the galaxy and lore. And then Series 2 came out and it still felt surprisingly fresh and people were still curious to see where its going. but by TBOB, Obi Wan, Ahsoka I feel like there is less amazement and wonder there now. No one is impressed by the concept of Star Wars on TV now.

Well that is a normal thing to happen when people get used to something.

To use some non-spoiler stuff from this night’s episode of the Acolyte to the overall purpose of the thread, I just want to point this out:

The grifter-friendly, misogynistic, “culture war” problem that women have to deal with both causes undeserved grief along offensively lines - and also hijacks discussion of any actual problems that exist.

Tonight’s episode of the Acolyte has already suffered from culture war morons “poisoning the well” by tying to make “feminism” the enemy of Star Wars - but this episode is likely going to get praised and fight back against that not just because of its narrative content and spectacle, but because it addressed the actual issue of the show thus far: poor pacing.

There’s a bunch of malicious “fans” who no doubt will still watch this thing and hide the fact they enjoy some of it for the sake of voicing pre-scripted complaints about women to look cool to their buddies, and who might very well drown out any constructive criticism earlier episodes deserved to get - much like how TLJ’s actual weak spots were sometimes hijacked and covered up by sexist and racist idiots playing into LFL’s own pre-scripted defense of that film.

The other weird thing? If The Acolyte maintains this level of execution, narrative substance, and spectacle, the culture war around it will likely do what earlier “assaults” did when TFA, Rogue One, and the first two season of The Mandalorian loaded up on assertive action girls and non-white representation while being successful - quiet down and go “stealth mode,” hoping the next entry suffers from some other issue so they can try hijacking criticism again.

Well as long as these social media platforms continue to pay people for clicks this is going to happen. Legitimate criticisms will get drowned out by the people who likely aren't even watching the show and just use popular franchises as an avenue to bring more attention to their identity politics agendas.

The Acolyte seems to be a direct result, or response to this practice, if not a perfect example of it. Began, the culture war did. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.

To be fair, there are villains on both sides of the debate. There were people on Twitter/X who were threatening to publicly unalive Star Wars Theory because he warned Wookiepedia that he would take legal action if they didn't stop accusing him of "sending his fans after them."

When you have people who are trying to make their living off of talking about Space Monks with Laser Swords this kind of thing is going to happen.

Death threats like that are never okay. At the end of the day, these are just movies.

(Also, I despise the term "unalive". I get why people have to use it on TikTok due to that app's restrictions, but actually treating it as a genuine word always strikes me as a weird and strange piece of self-censorship.)

No it's not. But I'm sure Star Wars Theory was happy they said that as it gives him additional reasons to make 'woe is me' videos.

I'm not here to defend anyone's position in modern politics. I don't like "those people" either. I'm just pointing out that unfortunately, that in this manufactured war, where people have been encouraged to take sides, everybody still has *some* humanity. That there are many people who think your politics are goofy (or worse), who would save your life anyway, because it's the right thing to do. Which, I thought was one of the central messages of this story.

It is not a “manufactured” war when one side thinks the humanity of LGBTQ people, nonwhite people, and non Christian people is somehow debatable. It is not “manufactured” when some people have to fight to be recognized as full and equal humans just because of their ethnicity, identity or who they love.

Some bigot would “save my life because it’s the right thing to do” but then still claim that I do not have the right to make decisions about my own body or that I am not equal to men. So I hope they would also stop being a bigot since that is also the right thing to do.

I do too, but I wasn’t sure what the correct term to use here was for what they said they wanted to do to him.

I really don’t understand the hate he gets. I’ve never seen anything he’s done to warrant the type of vitriol he gets. Unless I’m missing something.

    (I just realized I double posted :()

If he’s making content complaining about “woke agendas”, “SJWs,” or any other nonsense like that which violates the hate speech policy here, I absolutely know why everyone hates him.

Not OK to send death threats to anyone though.

Nah, he's not as bad as that,

he just seems to be a bit of a gatekeeper who believes nobody can do Star Wars better than Lucas/Filoni and absolutely nobody should do lightsaber choreography other than Nick Gillard (since they are now buddies)

he seems to have totally gone off Disney Star Wars ever since Pablo Hidalgo made fun of him for crying at Luke's return in Mando season whatever-it-was

Bigotry is definitely manufactured. And so is the means by which it is fought. People literally argue with each other using language and talking points that were sold to them by an algorithm.

LOL you don’t think bigotry existed before social media?

I guess the early KKK racism was manufactured by an algorithm.

Which was something he completely fabricated all on his own as Hidalgo was actually defending people who got emotional over that scene.

Theory just has nothing else to do with his life (as his name is literally Star Wars Theory) so unless he wants to go work at Walmart he literally has to make Star Wars content on YouTube.
