I'm worried that this is gonna be the TFA of the Alien franchise.

There's no legacy characters to bump off in this one, Ripley is still floating in hypersleep. I think it's more of a potential continuity bondangle that it looks like WY had a whole space station of Xenomorphs in shrink wrap

That trailer already shows enough of a different plot.

Also if it redoes the ‘79 film well, I’ll be happy.

Looks like a hybrid of Alien and Aliens, but I’m fine with that!

It really doesn’t feel like either one to me, other than the obvious things like facehuggers laying eggs in people, etc. Beyond those surface level cues, it looks like it’s just straight horror, kind of missing the “suspenseful sci-fi action” angle of the first two. I barely remember anything about the other movies, so I’m not sure how it compares to those.

That trailer should come with a spoiler warning.

Maybe the space station of Xenos is what happened to David and the Covenant because it sure as heck doesn't look like Engineer tech space station. If anything it'll be an interesting continuity hole and there's a ready source of Xenomorphs as opposed to "Yah we had this all the time, lol"

The red bags the huggers seem to come out of do evoke David in some way.

I've been let down by every one since Aliens, so my expectations are once again sky high.

franchises continuing for half a century despite only ever releasing two good movies is a very familiar theme

Is the Alien game on PS5 any good? It looks like a first person shooter. I have a few on XBox 360 and they are pretty mediocre. Not Isolation; the two shooters.

As far as I'm aware, Isolation is the only good one.

I just hope this and any future movie completely ignores Prometheus and Covenant. The Engineers were just terrible. They had the intriguing mystery of the very cool Space Jockey, and all they could come up with was "they're, like, really tall, pale guys. Jesus was one!"
    No thanks.

Anyway, the recent trailer makes this look pretty decent, so I am very cautiously optimistic. I would love another good Alien movie. The last good one came out on the day of my birth, and I'm pushing 40 for god's sake.

The Alien RPG does a pretty good job synthesizing the mythology together, though - even introducing new threats well in tune with the original movies.

I tried getting back into Isolation last year, but the lighting is way too dark on a 4k TV

You should play it the way God intended: on a PC, with headphones. :p

If it was G-d's intention to play games on PC, wouldn't everyone be able to at least afford a high end one capable of playing the current games?

Maybe don't watch the trailer. [face_whistling]

Given that Scott is a producer and the first trailer has a reference to the last two films, you’re going to be disappointed.

I have seen many trailers over the decades that do not spoil things. This one went over the top.

It's a valid point, though, and one that unfortunately applies to WAY too many trailers these days. Studios have no self control anymore when it comes to making trailers, it seems... they throw anything engaging in there trying to hook people, without having restraint enough to make do with a trailer that focuses on introducing the overall story, gives highlights, and gives hints about details at most.

There's a similar discussion happening in the Deadpool thread at the moment. But I think it's fair to point out that any time there is a "Final Trailer", that it is always the one with the most spoilers that comes out a couple weeks before release. And it's specifically intended to hook anyone not already onboard due to more restrained teasers and trailers by throwing everything at them.

Like, Alien fans and horror fans were already onboard with the more tasteful teaser and first trailer. We didn't need any more. The Final Trailer isn't for us.

And it isn't a new trend- they've been doing these since at least Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which, while potentially being first, was probably also the greatest offender, to the degree that it actually ended up being misleading) a decade ago.

And that's ignoring specific directors too. Zemeckis has been fully spoiling his films (to a degree that far exceeds any other "final trailer" example i can think of by several magnitudes) for damn near 3 decades, if not longer.

If we're talking about a chestburster scene being a spoiler, uh, yeah there will be a chestburster scene.

I just want a good scary Alien movie. I don't need to ponder the meaning of life
