Finished watching the final of Legend of Korra, now I'm packing for a train journey to the south of France tomorrow. Got a week off with my family, gonna be nice and relaxing

 

Speaking of France, The Rest is History did an epic 8 part series on the French Revolution finishing with the capture of the Royals just before they get to Lorraine. I edited out a rant in which I spewed how much I loathed the Revolution and why Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette should be canonized by the Pope, as I don’t want to bore the thread with my rants

 

The most time I ever spent studying the French Revolution was when I took AP European History sophomore year, and I found it very interesting and our class had many engaging discussions.
Definitely anti monarchy on that one.

Guillotine seems apt for any leader guilty of treason. At least during such barbaric times like back in France then.
Nowadays they get to run for President, as it's a much more civilized age.

 

Yeah, let me just politely say that I disagree with that and leave it there. The nation state is an arbitrary invention anyway that has brought more harm than good.

Reality is that monarchies are more stable and democratic than republics are

 

These days, we have constitutional monarchies.

England's queens have ruled longer than their male counter parts, in general.

 

Well there is still an absolute monarchy known as Saudi Arabia

 

That's true, but I will stick to England.

 

This describes my day yesterday:

 

I am good, spending some time playing Animal Crossing and catching up on some laundry.

 

Good. It is going to be 80 today, one last weekend of summer. Gonna go for a hike.

Not a good day- somehow like an idiot dropped my wallet after buying orange juice for my folks and lost my drivers license. Gonna have to get a duplicate
edit: found my wallet inexplicably under my bed covers

I did that with my passport the other day. I checked the bag I thought it was in, couldn’t find it for 10 minutes, then realised it was in a side pocket the whole time

 

I do that sometimes with my apartment keys and they are always in some pocket or another purse.
