Considering there is no mention of Filoni producing the films, the idea seems to be that Simon worked on rebels and this film, so Filoni must be very involved too.

Kinberg? Yet another boring yes man.. not very excited by the news. Except for Mangold, the latest names attached to star wars have been disappointing.

He makes sense. I mean … most big names are crossed off the list by now. At least he is an experienced filmmaker.

John Campea says when he went to Toys R Us for the first Force Friday in 2015 the person standing in front of him waiting in line at midnight was none other than Simon Kinberg. He says Kinberg is a hardcore SW fan.

He is born in 1973. Was 10 when Return Of The Jedi came out .Of course he is a diehard Star Wars fan. But seriously, i am not that negative. His work on Rebels is fine. He might just have a great idea for a new trilogy. Hollywood is mostly full of dull hacks screenwriters these days, people that only manages to write boring repetetive 3rd acts to generic blockbusters. Yeah, i want to get super excited again and have a big name for Star Wars. But we are not getting Nolan or Villeneuve as long as Disney are the big boss.

Nolan wouldn't make a Star Wars Movie. It doesn't seem like his type of project.

Although i imagine they would be open to it if he did want too. just because that seems to be the way they work.

When asked if he would ever do a Star Wars film, and given the options of yes/no/pass, Nolan said “pass” (as in, not wanting to answer the question), so you never know. He did say it’s what kicked off his love for cinema and all.

He is also a Star Wars fan. Doubt very much he would do one under Disney regime. Its the same with his love for James Bond i guess. He want full control and no studio interference.

PS I will also check my inbox later for the Sneider update. Seems like he has a lot to tell.

Kinberg is currently producing The Running Man for Edgar Wright. His track record as a producer is pretty impressive.

No one in Hollywood bats a thousand.

A remake of the Arnold film from the 80s made by Edgar Wright, count me in. Not a director i think will work for Star Wars though. Yeah, i can see Kinberg has some good producer credits.

This could just be another "Rian Johnson is making a SW trilogy" news dump. I will forego voicing an opinion until more is known.

I think Kinberg’s hiring is a sign that this actually going to happen. His quote as a writer is extremely high, something like $500k a week at least. You don’t pay that unless you know you’re moving forward, imo.

I've heard conflicting reports over whether this'll be the SST, or if it'll be just set in the GFFA, and whether familiar characters will appear or not. My reaction when I first heard about it on the radio was to mildly raise an eyebrow and say, "Oh." I'm not really excited about it right now. Maybe that'll change when we reach teaser trailer stage.

Well, I don't expect this to actually happen, for obvious reasons.

But, Kinberg is the dude who wrote the best X-Men movie in existence (Days Of Future Past), while the First Sherlock Holmes movie was really good, and Jumper is an underrated little gem. X-Men: Apocalypse was more than fine (though certainly not as good as the first two reboot movies), and Dark Phoenix was forgettable.

So, all in all, generally better than the majority of writers and directors for SW movies under Disney I guess.

If this is a stand alone trilogy, I am intrigued. If this is an Episode X - XII trilogy, I will probably laugh hysterically with every single movie in the trilogy. Win-win scenario.

Disney has their year-end earnings report next week (on 11/14). News like this helps goose their stock price in the short-term, even if it never comes to fruition.

I remember all the projects they announced in that December 2020 presentation and most of them never happened: A Droid Story, Taika Waititi's movie, Lando, Rogue Squadron, Rangers of the New Republic, Children of Blood & Bone. If investors keep falling for it, then why change the playbook?

Something interesting that I noticed: I've parsed through the reports from Deadline, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Entertainment Weekly, all of whom claim to have independently confirmed that Kinberg is writing/directing a trilogy of films. Each of them, consistently, mention that the other movies in development include films from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover, in addition to The Mandalorian and Grogu. Not one of them ever mentioned Dave Filoni's film. I wonder if there's anything to that.

Also, all of the others sources continue to stress that this is a new trilogy and not Episodes X-XII, including an update from IGN citing their own sources, and an independent dismissal from io9.

EDIT: D23 Brazil starts tomorrow. Maybe they announce this there?

Jeff Sneider believes these films will indeed be positioned as episodes 10, 11 and 12. He’s also hearing that Daisy Ridley will be in them as an Obi-Wan type figure. He’s also heard that a new writer has been hired for the Obaid-Chinoy film but is uncertain whether or not that movie is moving forward because it has a similar plot to what Kinberg is working on. He expects that Kathleen Kennedy will depart LFL next year after charting a course for the future.

Sneider wonders whether or not LFL will be able to hire a director for the Kinberg film and believes he may demand to direct the first movie himself. He also says many people in Hollywood view SW as an unneeded headache for their careers.

So if I’m understanding Jeff correctly, the current plan is this:

    Sharmeen movie featuring Rey (Daisy)

Kinberg trilogy aka Episodes 10-12, also featuring Rey (Daisy) to some extent

Shawn Levy movie featuring Rey as an old lady (probably played by someone else)

So if that plan sticks, Sharmeen’s movie unofficially becomes a “transition” film, or Episode 9.5, of sorts.
