Ah, yes, I wasn’t thinking of the Covenant prologue/flashbacks.

I watched Romulus today on Hulu. I liked it more than I expected to. Not as good as Alien and Aliens, obviously, but I thought it was a lot better than the others.

I enjoyed it as well. I'm watching the RLM review and they seem to have hated it. I can see their pov, but I liked the call backs and such. The story was pretty easy to follow. Some stuff didn't make sense but that's what you guys are for.

Speaking of not making sense, the cryo pods needed fuel but I never saw them bring it back to the ship so did they have enough for the remaining 2 characters?

I haven't rewatched it yet since theaters, so I might be wrong here, but wasn't it the situation that there were at least a couple pods that did have fuel, but not enough fueled pods for everyone, thus having to get fuel for the remaining pods. But now that you're down to those survivors, they only needed the fueled pods that they had already recovered?

Well Andy gets put in a pod which I guess will heal him on the 9 year journey? IDK.
Also, I started watching Prometheus yesterday and the David character is shown eating so I guess droids need to eat as well.

I'm going to do the chronological order watch. Skipping AVP as I haven't seen Covenant so looking forward to seeing that even though I heard it wasn't great.

David does say at one point in Prometheus when offered a drink that "it would be wasted on me" so I think him eating was just playing along with the humans to put them at ease, a trait he would soon give up on.

Anyway there's in universe short films too after Prometheus before Covenant

Alien Earth having Aliens on earth prior to Alien just feels so incredibly forced and farfetched.

I believe the androids can eat and drink to blend into social interactions, but they don't get anything out of it- it's just for appearances. Thus, Ash can blend in with everyone on the Nostromo without them knowing he's an android, as can Bishop more casually/openly at the table (though I forget if he is shown doing so or just serving).

Makes sense, but David was eating in a scene before he started to wake everyone up so maybe androids do consume food for energy in the Alien-verse. They also reveal before going on planet that David is an android so it's not a secret like it was with Ash in Alien.

Probably some sort of milk blood intake, also David did seem to go a bit batty by himself when everyone was in cryo

Bishop was shown offering food, namely cornbread, but he was depicted eating. Ash had food in front of him. Call drank coffee. In the "Aliens: Outbreak"/"Aliens: Earth Hive" series, before it was revealed the crew of the Benedict were androids, they were shown eating.

I don't believe that they need food and water, but are designed to mimic humans in order to appear human. David was trying to be human in every sense of the word.

    Maintenance

Unlike previous models, David 8 can conduct all of his own maintenance procedures. He constantly monitors the degradation of his high-turbidity hydraulic fluid and will replenish at regular intervals (bi-monthly approximate for most mixed-use applications). His zero-loss lithium ion cells are guaranteed for the life of the product.

    And from Alien Wiki

Those androids designed for close social interaction with humans are able to eat and drink, though they gain no nutrients from anything they consume. Food and drink is broken down in an artificial stomach cavity, and the resulting liquid is expelled via a retractable catheter.

    I found this on reddit.

So I finished my Prometheus rewatch.

What I gathered from the movie is that the Engineer at the beginning of the movie drank the black goo which broke down his cells to a molecular level and these cells essentially went on to populate the Earth from scratch. We later learn that human DNA and the Engineer DNA are an exact match so they are the source of human creation.

Ancient Earth civilizations all appear to have a map that leads to the Engineer's Military Depot? which houses the black goo. At some point 2,000 years prior, some black goo gets loose and the Engineers escape? save for one that got his head caught in a door.

Then I guess since the Earth scientists and explorers open up the door to that room with the giant Engineer head in it, it activities the goo which starts leaking out and we get some super worms.

Separately, a dot of black goo is injected by a man who then impregnants a woman who births a giant squid. This squid later attacks an Engineer and a weird looking Alien-like creature is born.

Only Shaw and David survive and leave the planet.

    ***

    Other side stuff
    - Weyland believes the Engineers have the power to extend life. We never learn if they do or not.
    - The guy that uses the "dog" probes to map the structure get lost in said structure still bothers me.
    - Supposedly the Engineers consider Earth as their experiment and they were going to terminate that experiment but the black goo halted that and we don't know why?
    - After the incident, did the Engineers just abandon that Depot and decide to not mess with the black goo anymore?

All of the Alien and Predator movies are on Disney Plus. The Canadian top 3 yesterday waa Deadpool and Wolverine, Alien Romulus and The Santa Clause. (Today both the Mona 2 special look and Moana made it to #1&2)

Idris Elba's character kinda sums it up like he read a Wikipedia summary off screen.
"You know what this place is? Those Engineers? This ain't their home. It's an installation. Maybe even military. They put it out here because they're not stupid enough to make weapons of mass destruction on their own doorstep. That's what all that **** is those in those vases. They made it here. It got out, it turned on them. The end."

Anyway I gave Covenant a rewatch before Romulus in theatres but I think I'll rewatch Prometheus before the disc release

Can I just dive in to say that the whole direction they've taken this is kind of stupid? It absolutely makes sense to weaponize things that already exist in nature. But the idea that anyone would intentionally create an intelligent but impulsively violent, self-reproducing uncontrollable living organism as a weapon beggars belief. It's such a weird an unnecessary angle. If you just want to kill people mindlessly, actual chemical/biological warfare is simpler, cheaper, and serves the same purpose. If you need something capable of showing more restraint or control, then hardwiring some kind of limitations would be sensible. "Losing control" from there or otherwise might be acceptable, but the idea that no one thought it might be needed in the first place is truly bizarre. Is anyone really interested in this "plot" angle with the Engineers or whatever?

Well it seems Alien Earth is not going to use or mention the Engineers bioweapon angle, just a random space ship found that is full of Xenomorphs

The point is that the Engineers were trying to play God, and their hubris lead them to create something they couldn't control. It wasn't their intention, it was their mistake.

Sure. But how would one make that mistake?

For instance, Jurassic Park tried to make every dinosaur female, but was surprised by the capacity for sex change. What mistake did the Engineers make or what factor did they overlook? Because it really just looked like they intentionally created something that they had no way to stop or control. At that point, it's no longer an interesting story and just becomes a stupid one.
