Pretty much everyone from James Gunn to Barry K have shot that down. All about Penguin!

    from matt reeves:

the penguin is the best live action "superhero" genre series since og daredevil, just edges out hawkeye for me.

did not expect that going in. really great work from matt reeves and lauren lefranc, hopefully wb/dc can hang their hat on this success and use it as the standard going forward.

Not for nothing, but Gunn really appears to have tried to be totally hands-off with the non-DCU stuff -- letting Joker 2 absolutely fail on its own, but The Penguin absolutely crush it on its own.

That was a finale. Without context...

It was good. I can't believe I didn't connect the dots on
    Selina and Sofia!

I was watching the show like at the bench scene like "Cool, in The Batman Part Two is Vic going to be Oz's sidekick ahhhh wait nope!"

The first scene of Part Two should be Gordon and Batman at the Bat-Signal and Gordon chewing out Batman for five minutes asking where the hell was he?

    Yep. That was a shocker.

I'm glad Sophia lived. Was there some clues I missed that she and Selina Kyle are related?

Throughout one garners some sympathy for Oz, but in the end he is a monster. Like any narcissist "I have to sacrifice you."

the audio is muffled but the doctor hands her the note and says "She says she's your half sister." That's the only reference in the show, her being Carmine's daughter is in The Batman

Anyway it gives Selina a reason to return to Gotham for Part Two

Well. That was quite the ending. [face_hypnotized]
Sheesh. I didn't realize we were still two years away from The Batman Part II. It's refreshing to see time being taken to get it right, but it already feels like a long time since the first one came out.
We already knew Selina was Carmine Falcone's daughter from The Batman, so this wasn't technically a reveal. It was there all along. I, like a lot of people it seems, didn't make the connection, so it just felt like one.

That was a most excellent finale to a very, very good series. Almost perfect. The only thing that spoiled it was
that stupid scene with Sophia in Arkham. Why why why would you ruin the ending so? Oh yeah, need to set up another spin off.
Ugh. So annoying, to come this close to perfection.

    Do you mean
her ending up back in Arkham at all or just the letter from Selina?

I finished episode 4 last night. It's a decent series so far, maybe the best HBO series since The Last of Us.

I'd be fine if Batman smashes through the window, gives Oz like a five minute beat down at the start and then the rest of the movie happens

    Mainly the latter.
As soon as the police surrounded her it was clear she was going back to Arkham. And the look on her face, being denied even the release of death, was all that was needed to close her storyline. At best, have a brief shot of her in Arkham, staring blankly into space.

But the thing with the letter, going "oh yeah, by the way, you have a half sister, her name is Selina Kyle", practically winking at the audience to see if they recognise the reference, was just a blatant tease/set up for a sequel/spinoff that felt completely jarring, both tonally and by taking the focus away from Cobb's story. It felt like it was forced in there by the studio executives. Ugh.

At least do it as a post-credits sequence, if you must. Let the main story conclude without spoiling it.

Eh, completely disagree tbh. She was the best character in the show IMO, better than Oswald, and she definitely deserved an epilogue. Besides, we already knew that Selina Kyle is her half-sister, so a little bit of foreshadowing to what will follow in The Batman - Part II or Penguin Season 2 is ok with me.

Anyway, this series was one of the best I have ever watched. I mean, it's a no-brainer really.
Amazing script, great twists, beautiful cinematography, and I am not even going to go the acting.
Give Colin Farrell and Cristin Milliotti ALL the awards.

Director and executive producer Matt Reeves said Batman was busy. Which, y'know, fair enough.

"This was a time of great turmoil in the city, it's literally the week after what happened," Reeves explained. "Much of the city is in desperation, so police can't get everywhere, there's crime everywhere, it's a very, very dangerous time.

"[Batman’s] out there trying to grapple with the aftermath of everything that happened, which to some degree he blames himself for."

I agree, even though I would be interested in a Sophia spinoff, which honestly does not need Selina in it. She is a strong enough character to be the main character without something like that.

Overall, I thought The Penguin was fantastic and even liked how it goes directly into The Batman 2 as I really want to see a true No Man's Land where Batman has to win the streets of Gotham back one area at a time.

First time watching The Batman after The Penguin. In the first 5 minutes Bats says "It's a big city, I can't be everywhere." Which, okay, fair. It would have been nice if Oz and the crooks dropped a reference to him, but they are a superstitious and cowardly lot, so I buy they don't want to talk about Vengence. Bad luck! If you don't talk about him, it doesn't exist!

I have a curious question about another possibility of Michael Keatons Batman coming back and not including the flash casting.

Since dc has been writing comic books based on Keatons Batman and there is a novel called Batman resurrection with maybe more
Novels to come, is it possible that some might become animated movies or maybe some could be deep fake AI style like they did with Harrison ford in Indian jones 5?

Michael Keaton is opened to playing Batman because he did say “Never say Never”

Plus I think a new actor could replace Kevin conroy as Batman and sound similar to him if they wanted to bring back the early 90s animated series.

What do you all think of the rumor that after Penguin tried to send him to a watery grave, Vic is going to re-emerge as this universe's Tiger Shark?

Of course. What kind of sacrilege would not allow Bruce Timm in a discussion of Batman?
