It's going to be a big dumb movie for the whole family, and that will be fine. I'd like to see the teaser on a big screen for Christmas. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will play in front of Nosferatu.

You can have big dumb movies like Godzilla Vs. Kong or you can have big smart movies like Godzilla Minus One, and it all works out

I'm personally hoping this Superman movie is the latter

It can be both absolutely. But smart also doesn't have to mean Superman is grim and psychological as if it really wishes it was a Batman movie lol.

As someone who enjoyed Snyder's Superman movies, I can honestly say I don't get the more hardcore side of the base that are so gung ho against this movie and James Gunn in general. For them, Superman begins and ends with Snyder and, frankly, that's sad. As fans we should be looking forward to new interpretations of our favorite characters, because that's how they survive and transcend time.

I've watched this trailer 4 times already. I can't get enough!

I'd give Gunn the benefit of the doubt. Peacemaker is the best superhero tv show of the 21st century by such a wide margin it's not even open to discussion. But Superman has been difficult. No one has recaptured or redirected or reinvented the magic of the 78 movie after going on a half century of trying, and it may not be possible.

The message of the teaser is basically: **** it, let's just do our best to reverse engineer the style and tone of the 78 movie.

What if the opening credits to this Superman movie are every single cast member dancing awkwardly to Wigwam?

I liked MOS. I don't ever watch it really. As I find most Snyder films ugly. The high contrast lighting and exposure. The dark shadows. Everything so poised. I just don't enjoy watching them visually. But that original movie had some good moments. It had some potential to go in a cool direction with sequels. But after that it all just went so far downhill because the studio lacked patience and wanted a big stupid Justice League movie without building towards it.

And I get the fans are probably miffed about that. But ... yeah, Superman isn't really supposed to be super realistic. It's fantasy. There should be some verisimilitude to make us believe in the fantasy. But we don't really need a grim mopey psychological Superman film, who sometimes fights dark monsters, and wishes he was Batman.

Superman, Krypto, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific - what is this? Some kind of Justice League?

I like that the trailer starts with confirming that Superman does in fact bleed.

He bled in Superman 4 when Nuclear Man scratched him. He then got the flu.

It's so stuffed with characters you can already imagine that a major flaw of the film is that very few characters will get enough screen time for any real development. It's going to be shotgun cameos from start to finish. Obviously that didn't hurt Spider-Man: No Way Home.

    IMDb also lists
Milly Alcock as Kara. So how much Supergirl are we going to get?
Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord so maybe some Blue Beetle?
Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
Alan Tudyk in an unnamed role - maybe the voice of the kaiju.

I'm just trying to understand what it is. Is this another Superman reboot? I think that would make it the third official one. And they have other superheroes from the DC universe in there that haven't seen their live action debuts yet. Is this one of these Multiverse things, where Cavill's Superman still exists somewhere?

Whatever. DC is quick to scratch a Batgirl film but yet another Superman or Batman one will get the green light no matter how many times they're presented. I'll wait until it's available on MAX.

I will be there 100%. There's actually some Silver Age bits in this, and that was Superman's most successful era. They nailed the Clark disguise, too. And Krypto!

Money. Studios like making it. The Snyder-verse wasn't making enough of it. No one had any solution to fix those movies. Sooooo time to redo it again to make more money.

Cavill's movies still exist. You can still watch them any time you'd like to. They did not poof out of existence just because the studio is never going to make another Cavill Superman movie.

While Peacemaker is a lot of fun, tightly orchestrated and well written, the Guardians of the Galaxy sequels are not that great, so the Gunniverse could be messy and uneven. The teaser trailer suggests that Superman is going to embody the typical flaws of emphasizing launch of a franchise over making a compelling movie. If it's main job is just setting up potential sequels, then it's going to be a letdown.
