A lot of that is just to satiate the bloodthirsty Disney shareholders.

Yeah yeah. Like George Lucas :)

Of course Disney did not buy Star Wars to run a charity franchise. Anyway, sounds like Sneider has a very good source for this rumour. Because it is more spesific than his last gossip outings. Also said that Gosling has signed on for Levys film. Lets see in a few weeks then.

There's no question that Mangold taking on Star Wars is higher stakes than Swamp Thing, and it's important to remember that Dawn of the Jedi was announced before Dial of Destiny was released and subsequently flopped. With Shawn Levy's film seeming to be the next to go into production (and presumably releasing in December 2027), that means this one is at least three years away, if not more (depending on how the New Jedi Order film continues to develop). I'm not surprised if Mangold is considering his options, especially after gaining more clout from the success of A Complete Unknown.

Well he has said he felt overwhelmed by the poor reaction to Indiana Jones. so the thought of making a movie in the Star Wars fandom is probably not that exciting.

That was another thing I was going to bring up. The entire Indy 5 experience may have soured Mangold on Lucasfilm and Disney.

That’s a shame. This is the movie I was looking forward to the most, out of the three announced back in 2023. [face_plain]

@Serpico Jones you are twisting words around quite abit here. No where (as you claim) does it say that Mangold is dropping out of Star Wars. It just says he is going to decide what his next project is going to be. Even if this leaker knows what he is talking about here (which is highly debatable) you are trying to say thing that were never actually said.

As @Othini said Mangold was always scheduled to do Swamp Thing as well. So why are you claiming he is dropping out of Star Wars to do Swamp Thing now?

Also figured I should mention this. When looking into these statements that Serpico said this leaker made I found that this leaker has also mentioned in the past that Mangold is much more passionate about Star Wars and will be doing that film next. So basically he now has all his bases covered so he can say he was right no matter what Mangold does next.

See everyone that is how you play the game. Take both angles so you can be right either way.

Serpico’s obviously biased (and always has been), but you’re naive if you think all the leaks out there are lucky guesses and cold readings by people who don’t know anything real.

I’ll point out, I knew several months before it was made offficial that Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno were playing fallen Jedi called Baylan and Shin, and that Thrawn was in a whole other galaxy aligned with Nightsisters and zombie Stormtroopers. That was out there, and the level of specificity wasn’t someone making a vague, lucky guess.

I know some of these leakers do have 'some' legit sources. But for many of these people if they want to make a living off of doing this stuff they have to create a lot of content. More content than any sources they may or do have can support. So a lot of them do end up just saying things that there is probably a good chance of happening.

Actually we know nothing about what is going on at LucasFilm except there seems to be a shift the development department and KK got a very short contract extension.

We do know James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken over DC and are ramping up a bunch of movies. But is Swamp Thing a guaranteed production with a budget attached without Superman even out?

Mr. Mangold will have all those answers. I assume to keep working he will pick the movie most likely to be greenlighted. That’s what a director usually does.

As the source pretended as if both movie had green light and he could pick (while none of them have as far as I understand) makes me feel more like this is a rumor.

Both movies have been officially announced by the studio heads themselves, so I’m pretty sure that counts as a “green light.”

Both are listed as in development. Which is the stage before green light.

I guess you’re technically right, but both movies were announced with big fan fair and all. Then again, so was rogue squadron, and we all know how that turned out…

I really hope this movie gets made and is also a success.

May be an odd thing to say, but the Future of Star Wars lies better in its Past.

There is just far more potential in what they can do for DoTJ era and also the later Old Republic eras then with a Rey story post TRoS.

This is/was the film I'd like to see the most. Mangold is a quality filmmaker IMO, and on paper he could make a great Star Wars film... although I have to say that I don't know what happened with IJ and the Dial of Destiny, as I thought that was a bit of a car crash and made Crystal Skull look like The Godfather in comparison (although Mangold didn't write it). Still, DLF should allow him to make the film he wants to make... give him a bit of creative freedom to draw the drama out of a story, that's what he's good at IMO... although saying that, I'm less convinced about his natural ability to direct 'action', and I think his better films are the smaller more personal ones. I'd take less action for more quality drama and world building.

I dont agree with Star Wars future is in the past, you can go many ways post ST and post Rey's New Jedi Order. Like 500-800 with old Grogu wise jedi Master.

But in The Dawn of the Jedi era and Old Republic era, we can get more Fantasy with all kind of force cults before the birth of the Sith Empire. You got Mandalorians, witches, foreign alien empires.

Crystal Skull was basically a classic indiana jones characterisation but with an older indiana jones. They didn't really put to much focus on his age and they tried to make him seem very active even at older age. Of course Lucas and Spielberg wanted to take advantage of being set in the 50s and CGI advancements, Which seems to be the major gripe with it.

While Dial of Destiny puts a lot of focus on his age, life and loss while adjusting to the 60s. While also trying to avoid what was seen as silly in Crystal Skull. So taking it back to what they felt was a more indiana jones story without a lot of unnecessary CGI.

And in the end it really comes down to which one you prefer i suppose. opinions are going to differ on which one they prefer for Indiana Jones.

I prefer Dial of Destiny, which I actually enjoyed a lot and wish got a better reception. I think Mangold did quite a good job balancing the reality of Indy being at the end of his life while still getting dragged into an adventure, with making it feel like an adventure.
