Who should head of Lucasfilm?

She's leaving Lucasfilm? If that's true how come you couldn't provide @TCF-1138 the exact quote where she said that when you were asked to provide it?

 

It’s literally her first answer. I’m not sure if it’s because some of the people posting on here do not speak English as their first language but the reading comprehension is severely lacking.

 

Have you even read the deadline article? Her first answer is about an eventual succession. Not about her stepping down as quickly as some of you want her to. Just the fact that she will be leaving someday and that they are currently making plans for that.

In the meantime she mentioned that she will be producing the Mando movie and the Shawn Levy movie after that. That is still several more years of her working at Lucasfilm. Infact she even said that when the individual is selected that she will be sticking around to ease them into the position. That's very very different from what many of you who have been hating on her all this time have been saying the situation is like.

No offense but it really just seems like you are trolling at this point.

Translation: she’s stepping down sometime this year.

 

You really do only pay attention to things that fit into your agenda don't you. In that very same paragraph where you quoted that sentence she literally said three times that she is continuing and how she will be producing future films for Lucasfilm.

 

Every studio head who steps down is given token producer credits on certain movies. It’s ceremonial and means nothing.

Amy Pascal at Sony is a perfect example.

It does make me wonder if Belloni has a personal grudge against Kathleen Kennedy for whatever reason. If he is that affected just from not liking the direction Star Wars has gone than he shouldn't be in the business.

Why is Kathleen Kennedy such a heated issue for so many people. Like 50% of the reason I care is it pisses off the anti woke crowd the other 50% is I like most of the stuff that’s come out under her.

I think a lot of people overestimate how involved she is in things

what she does is hires people and that’s basically it. Also probably has a hand in when things come out but that’s also partially decided by Disney.

Like it’s not like she’s writing things.

also whoever is the next president is almost certainly going to be hand picked by her.

Again I think people put far to much thought into her and I don’t think a whole lot changes if she’s no longer in charge

you can think that most of Star Wars is bad since 2012 or KK is bad, but I don’t think the fandom would be any more united under anyone else or whatever controlled lucasfilm

Exactly this. Many people who want her gone don’t know or understand how movie companies work these days. Or they don’t understand the difference of lucasfilm before and after 2012: Lucas obviously very much involved in creative process and not only chose what was produced but did it himself (to a degree). But we also know that he didn’t care for the books and games very much and just made sure to the give the rules of what and what could not happen. Kennedy is not involved in the creative process. She hires creatives people when they pitch a idea or script or hires creative people because LFL wants a certain product produced. That’s it. Beside this she produces the stuff and takes care of the company.

the fandom wouldn’t be more united with anyone else Beeing at the helm. It wasn’t united in 1997 when the Special Edition was released and it wasn’t united in 1999 when TPM came out. There was always a group of people who didn’t like the direction SW was taking because it wasn’t the direction they wanted. And in 2012 when Lucas sold the company I remember many people celebrating that he was gone.

I love Lucas and think he did an extraordinary amazing job. But with the Disney deal we did something we wouldn’t have with him ever: regular SW. With Lucas it das TCW, Books and Comics. Now it’s much more.Is everything perfect? No, of course not. It never can be. But the things we can chose now are plenty to pick from these days. Maybe we would have gotten one live action show with Lucas. And maybe he’d do his ST which would have been as critical viewed as his other movies after the OT and Indy 3. and I am sure the Lucas ST would have divided the fandom the same way the actual ST did. Just because that’s the way the fandom is like for over 25 years. Lucas would have not followed any legends books which would have brought him hate. His decisions for the story would have been rejected by part of the fandom just as it happens now with current SW. Because Star Wars Fans Are notorious for gate keeping. We would have been in a similar position plus Lucas would still need to find a way to keep the company and SW after his retirement. He always would have to solve this problem.

 

I think KK will leave whenever she wants to, but based on her comments it sounds like she is stepping down fairly soon. I also don’t believe anything will change with SW content, they will still make a bunch of content that that the OG fans don’t really care for. SW will likely never again occupy the place it once had in cultural significance.

For example my kids loved SW (prequel kids) and we used to watch the first 6 marathon style. They have no interest nor have they watched any of the Disney stuff in the last 5-6 years. Disney has just failed to capture the hearts and minds with their recent products. Sure there has been good content Rogue 1, Mando 1-2, and TFA…….but also lots of misses as well.

It is what it is. We will always have George’s creations, and they are incredible!

 

Well, there is a lot more stuff out there for Star Wars to compete with nowadays...

Which is completely normal. The prequels already never matched the cultural significance of the OT. That's just time passing. You can't expect something to forever hold onto being THE cultural icon, it just doesn't work that way.

Beyond that, there is no such thing as "the OG fans". Some of the people who fit under that criteria don't like some or all of Disney content. Just like some of them do. And just like some of them don't like parts of or everything connected to the prequels. A fandom is made up by different people with different tastes. Just because they happened to agree on one thing once, doesn't mean they will all forever agree on everything that follows.

 

The more content there is the more divided a fandom will be. To find people who like basically everything Star Wars except Mando 3 and TROS and then find people who like the other shows and movies as much as me or as little as me is extremely impossible. That one change with even more content
