Ahsoka Star Wars: Ahsoka - Season 2 Discussion Thread

star wars has always been very colour coded and many characters are colour coded in the same way, so im not quite sure thats as much proof as many seem to think it to be

 

I personally didn’t think Ahsoka was at all overshadowed by Sabine, Ezra, Thrawn, or Anakin. If anything, Sabine turned out to be so immature as to be unlikable, Ezra had a pretty minor role at the end, and Thrawn, though looking large, is a villain so I don’t see how he takes away from Ahsoka. Plus, I prefer the ensemble approach to the resisters and the rebels. That’s one of the main things I love about Andor. It’s not an hyoer-individualist action fantasy. It takes a village to make a revolution. And I like that Ahsoka also has a little of that flavor, even if I don’t find it as compelling as Andor.

 

Which really doesn't make sense when you really think about how she would be almost thirty and just her experience in general.

 

Yeah. It’s because she was essentially regressed to fit a teenage/YA character mold. I think it was due to under-confidence in having only adult protagonists. So Sabine is coded as a teen.

 

I mean, trauma also causes regression… and often adults who had to behave like adults and do rough stuff when they were only kids (like fighting in wars and see people die) then behave in an immature way when they are adults but taken out of the initial situation… brains need to go through adolescence and they are going to do it later when they are allowed to… I interpreted it that way but I might be projecting (source is my job, see a lot of Sabines)

 

I can definitely respect that. But I think the motivations behind the choice were audience-driven (i.e. the perceived need for a teenaged-coded main character), and not related to exploring how trauma can cause emotional regression.

 

Oh, the ensemble? I like that, too. My bad. I just think that there is either a focus on one main character or an ensemble with this setup. Maybe I should have said I prefer a mix of both. I didn't describe it well. What I should have said is that we needed a different way to present the story. I just get a lot of woodenness from Ashoka's story until the ensemble assembles. And I'm not alone in that.

 

Except trauma is definitely a part of her character and is one of the main reasons Ashoka stopped her training initially. Her inability to deal with the destruction of her home and family.

 

I agree that it's a part of her character, and I actually didn't mind the choice. But given that the destruction of her home and family were not revisited dramatically in the season (told and not shown), I do suspect that the choice of including Sabine as an apprentice of Ahsoka's was related to uncertainty about audiences relating to Ahsoka's wise and older self as a protagonist. >And so we get this version of Sabine, who frankly does come across as a teenager (and I know a teenaged 40-year old, so I get it can happen).

We may never really know. It's just a hunch. And I don't think the motivation is even that important, really. After all, I like the show a good deal. Could've been better, perhaps by exploring Sabine's trauma more deeply (which could have been a good parallel to Ahsoka's), but overall, I was satisfied enough with it.

 

I don't think it helps that Filoni isn't a very good writer

 

He is like GL, good ideas man but not great writer and needs help writing.

 

I'm sure there is a long list of Filoni's short comings out there, possibly many of them valid. They don't matter a single bit to me, as he has kept me a fan of SW and continued to engage me in GFFA for decades. I also like his hat.

If you’re talking about the panel today all he said was he enjoyed the weirder aspects of the Star Wars universe like the World Between Worlds. The only thing he said about Ahsoka was that Carrie Beck was in England prepping for season two.

So unless he said that during the Mandalorian panel then I think he was probably misquoted.

 

Dave Filoni told Collider that filming starts in 4 days.

That panel was really good! They showed Rory McCann in costume as Baylan and he looks really cool! They also showed us a sizzle reel of concept art for season two! Confirmed Hayden’s return too!

On the live stage after the panel he seemed to say something like that though? For the morris part?

 

So from what is heard we are getting Ackbar back but as a major character and helping our Ghost crew in defeating Thrawn's advancement. He was in background in season one. And the sizzle reel of stills were great gives us an idea for the show. Baylan Skoll looks more dark side.
