Was there some significance to the weapon that got picked off the bench first when we went back to Yavin at the end of the episode? It seemed something intentional that I couldn't place.

Yes it's a shame it's vanished so much post-ROTJ in a way it didn't in the EU.

Syril's corpo gun. Cassian gave it to Melshi after Narkina in S1. Even though Syril himself didn't get the chance to join the Rebellion and got killed before that, at least his gun did, through Melshi.

I think Mons senate speech would have hit harder if Palpatine was there... For an amazing show I didn't really feel it.

I also wanted Sidious to be present for the speech but his presence would also have increased the security to the point that Andor would probably not have gotten Mon Mothma very far. At least, believably.

I don't think he attends the senate very much anymore. His absence makes the futility of the chamber even more real. Palpatine has no need for it anymore. It will be swept away permanently in just over a year
Also.makes his absence from a new hope make more sense

Someone pointed out earlier that Palpatine loved decorating everything with deep red hues in the prequels. But since Palpatine doesn't visit the Senate much anymore, maybe the light and airy style of the new Senatorial atrium/fountain/water-slide complex is an example of Mas Amedda Chic.

It is a staggering degree of world building to have a scenario where Sidious allows the Senate to continue but they are free to basically make their well-intended speeches into an empty vacuum.

For an episode that focused on listening devices and spying on Senators, it was incredibly frustrating to hear the word Yavin coming out of people's mouths as many times as it did. Maybe not reveal the location of the secret rebel base in a building that is known to be bugged. I mean why did Mon bother walking outside when she could have just picked any other room or elevator to practice her speech? It apparently was that safe to speak treasonous words and spill sensitive information in hallways, elevators, the parking lot, the plaza and so on.

The Senate is beneath him. He operates on a totally different plane of existence. That's why it would make no sense for him to show up or curl his lips watching Mon Mothma's speech.

ISB operates on the plane of mere mortals. It's their job to stifle Mon Mothma's speech and arrest her.

Agreed, to an extent. Much of my love for it is its centrality in the EU, to which Andor gives stunning visuals, so, I would like to see it more, but:
    • With Mando, his is a Wild West Outer Rim story, and seeing a gunslinger in in the big city would be a bit odd. Now, Nar Shadaa... that would be fun. Although, we do see a bit of Coruscant in Dr. Pershing's scenes, so there is that.
    • And Ahsoka's plot is even more far flung... but Thrawn's return to Coruscant would be chilling, I'm sure.
    • In TFA, I still maintain it's a bit silly, IMVHO, that it was Honsnian Prime, but, ultimately, I'm glad Coruscant wasn't destroyed like Ilum. But without digressing too far and taking things further off topic, at least Ilum had a "happy" ending, as "the strongest stars have hearts of kyber" (See? I brought it back around to Andor/Rogue One! Hahaha!)

Quite possibly zero, as it was probably done by droids.

I rated this episode with 7/10.

One point off for not having any Jedi, Sith, inquisitors or anything Force related, as per usual.

One point off for Bix leaving Cassian, which was a cheap cop out. That decision based on what we've seen makes no sense to me. At the end of the day she could have said that she is staying with the Rebellion. What would Cassian do? He would have to stay with her.

I had to subtract one more point because Cassian Andor murdering two people in broad daylight with hundreds of witnesses in an area that should have had a million droids, a billion cops, and a trillion stormtroopers, is beyond absurd. He just takes his sweet time escaping, while nobody is going after him? Having with him a Senator who was already being scrutinized, observed and followed? My apologies to the people who so passionately praise the writing in this show, but that was worse than any scene in The Book Of Boba Fett in terms of suspension of disbelief.

On the plus side, Mon Mothma was once again great. And this episode actually felt like Star Wars for the most part, as opposed to the French Revolution with blasters instead of gunpowder and swords.

Nothing unusual was supposed to happen in the senate before Mothma started speaking, so I don't find it too absurd that the security apparatus was caught off guard.
Andor had likely planned a way out beforehand in order to maximize the chances of escaping. Then, yes, they also got lucky.

The episode literally shows him improvise, and even mention it. That was not his plan.

Imagine someone escaping the Capitol after murdering two people in it, with zero resistance from law enforcement, only now the cops have 1000 times more advanced technology and means of surveillance. Nah, can't defend that scene.

^ For SW standard, that's just a random Tuesday.

By the way, the level of surveillance is clearly inferior wrt real life, since they allow people to get in with weapons without much control.

The authorities were already trying to arrest him in the first place, shooting people doesn’t make the cops spawn in faster like his heat meter went up in a video game. In fact, the 2 people he shot were literally the ones sent there to arrest him specifically. The whole point of killing them was because it makes his escape easier, not harder.

Also, we need to consider that of course arresting Mothma right after her speech was supposed to be done with a certain discretion, since it's an obvious violation of the protocol that shouldn't be advertized. That's why they initially tried to just send a few people in disguise to kidnap her.
Andor encountered relatively little resistance because, among other things, her arrest was not supposed to be too theatrical and noisy.

The ISB expected Mothma to go with Organa's extraction team. They didn't know she had another get out option because basically, she didn't even know. She didn't look like she had planned to go with Luthen's option, it was kind of forced on her. Mothma also suggested the escape route, she knew that place like the back of her hand, she spent so much time there.

Everything happened fast and then Cassian took a non-road escape route in the hovercar. They also stayed on world in a very well hidden hideout, so even there, they couldn't catch her escaping the city. Everything happened so quick, basically Andor said he needed three minutes. With all the chaos going on and then them exiting a secluded route (no one was along it until they got outside), it isn't unrealistic they could get away. Plus Andor even disguised her, albeit rudimentary style with his jacket.

The only issue that I can see is that the ISB wasn't more ready for a rogue senator given they were already suspicious. I guess they didn't think it would all go down the way it did or as quickly. She also wasn't on the running sheet though, they didn't think she would speak.
