    Spoilers.

I ll tune in tonight after sexy time most likely. I'm very curious to see how I find it after being so disappointed with the garbage offering of Promethus.

Some movies just can't be as great as the latest Marvel release; you know, the same one with a different title that comes out every three months.

Omg this movie actually started off much better than the last steaming pile and then they brought in some black goo/pollen(?) and it's gone right off the rails. Idk what the hell is going on! Where is a queen/eggs/facehugger/xeno franchise routine? This pollen nonsense just preggered a mofo and had his back not his chest burst. This is weird!

Just finished. More enjoyable than the other one but I think i ll just forget that I saw them so David never made them in current form. Better to just keep them as a legit species in my head then this take. I'm just to confused what Scott was going for here with the goo but having a Xeno mural on the Navigator(I ain't calling em Engineers¡) ship in Promethus.

Also who knew all you had to do was blow in the Xenos nose to get em to not kill you...

    Onto Romulus.

Oooooo it's starting off right! The computer sounds/looks from the real Alien movies showing up.

Oh boy OH BOY that lasted all of 10 seconds! How was there anything left of the Nostromo after that explosion of light and just HOW did that Alien(space death endings mean nothing now apparently) cocoon get to be in the middle of it? Like wtf she was traveling at speed away and some time passed before the reveal it was on the shuttle with her.... that thing should be floating farrrrrrrr away from the middle of the impossible remains. Don't even get me started on how tf Ash is A ok to.. Why did we have to sit through a film of space Gen Tik Tokers?! Oh that was painful to take in. I'm going to ignore the mommy issues Alien entirely besides this sentence.

How did/has NO ONE told Scott to just stop?

    Horrendous film.

The cocoon is a weird thing but ultimate survivor and all that and it's been like 30 years, it could have floated back to the Nostromo wreckage by then

The overall idea of the two prequels (and Covenant in particular) is that it takes several iterations of host DNA combinations to reach the "modern" Xeno lifecycle. Romulus elaborates that they are an evolved delivery mechanism for the black goo, essentially.

The Xeno previously existed, as shown on the Engineers' mural and, if you count them, in the AVP films (as well as implied by the Prometheus/Alien backstory). David seeks to recreate (and possibly improve upon) them, starting with using Shaw and the Covenant crew as spare parts and hosts to create the Neomorphs and Xenomorphs, and, eventually, using Daniels as spare parts to create a Queen (after the film).

Things go into much detail from there, but that's the general gist of it.

I was also thinking about the seemingly randomness of Big Chap Survival Cocoon, but then I thought of the cut Dallas and Brett egg scene in Alien and in Aliens the whole hive. "Looks like some sort of secreted resin." "Yeah but secreted from what?"

Bugs make goo. They also drip it a lot

Semi-related, some viewers get mad at the films when characters stick their face in eggs or various creatures but what are they supposed to do? Nobody knows a freaking facehugger is going to pop out!

Yeah, the cocoon makes a lot of sense in terms of existing- the Xenos clearly secrete the entirety of their hives, as well as their captive victims trapped for Facehuggers. Plus we have the actually cocooning process being used on themselves earlier in their development from Chestburster in Romulus, as well as later in their cycle in the Alien Director's Cut.

As for being near the wreckage- Ripley did blast it with the Narcissus' engines back towards where the Nostromo was. So it may have ended up in the vicinity of wreckage (hard to say for sure given the ship vs refinery nature of the explosion).

Yeah but it does render the endings of several films rather moot. Fully transformed Queen floating out there waiting on the next dumb humans to come give her a ride. Also one on the bottom of our ocean barring cocoon can hold up to pressure but at this point why not? They've already went to lala land with these movies.

Ugh I guess I should go ahead and do 3&4 again. I ll start tonight after sun goes down.

I loved Prometheus when it first came out, but I've only seen it once and that was on opening weekend. Alien: Covenant, less so, but ultimately, neither are fan servicey circlejerk like Romulus

Fassbender is the best thing in both of them, especially the latter

Pretty much. The first two films never gave a clear cut answer about whether or not the vacuum of space could kill them. We just assumed that they did since they didn't resurface.

Unless the Queen went as far down as the Titanic, the cold would immobilize it before then. Hell, the Xenomorph on Fury 161 survived being drenched in hot lead. The sudden surge of cold water destroyed it.

If we assume that the Queen was blasted out into space and didn't fall back into the atmosphere (because otherwise, she'd be incinerated upon re-entry), there's a lot of scenarios to consider. Technically, you could find that Queen corpse out in space- it would just be very, very difficult to do (as you wouldn't have the scattered debris pattern of a giant Nostromo explosion to attempt to narrow your search down).

There's also the possibility that the Queen can't cocoon herself and that that is a function of a drone or warrior. In which case she wouldn't survive the vacuum.

Apparently it is set in 2120, 2 years before the orginal film.

Given that the Sulaco was still in orbit, and the decompression velocity was relatively minor...and as there is no method for the Queen to course correct, it seems inevitable to me that the Queen would eventually fall back to LV426, even if she is trapped in orbit for short or very long time.

That said, are we certain that a Xeno could not survive re-entry heat/pressure? I mean, yes, they don't do well with bullets or 'splosions...but with minor size and perhaps not going that fast when ejected. Hypothetical, the decompression ejects her in a direction counter to the sulaco's orbital path, which would, in theory, reduce her overall velocity she shared with the Sulaco as she falls towards the planet. By the time she reaches the stratosphere she may be going about as fast as an extreme High Altitude parachute jump.

Even so, I suspect some friction, but perhaps something She can handle.

The bigger question would be avoiding going splat on the surface or an awful belly flop on a water body.

Not sure if a cocoon would be a solid enough egg-crate for such a fall.

    She sprouts wings?

What seems more likely is the "Queen" doesn't survive re-entry...but parasitical/symbiotic partner organism (a bacteria, more black goo, perhaps a face hugger kept in an internal sack) does survive re-entry, protected by the Queen, even at the cost of her life.

The one thing I will buy in on, as this species premise is stretched evermore, is the determination of any life-form to try keep living at any cost.

    2122.

We've got less than a century.

We're not even on Mars yet...

The Promotheus backstory indicated that not only did Weyland fix climate change already a decade ago, but the first David was created this year and hyperspace capable ships are less than a decade away.

Re-entry would have burned the Queen, since fire can kill them.

Pretty much. That's why the bio weapons division wanted them.

After the greatness of Alien and Aliens, one of the only redeeming things about all of the others is that they inspire reviews like @JEDI-SOLO ’s.

3 was better than i remembered. I like that it followed the franchise rules though I have serious questions how the Queen laid an egg on the Sulaco without her ass snatch attached. Had no memory that Ripley knew she cooking a Queen in the oven. Maybe that's why it took so long to say hi? So used to facehugger/xeno speed run that it really makes Ripleys incubation stand out like crazy. Forgot another Bishop shows up at the end offering candy. Also now thanks to that latest trash pile you can't deny this xeno is d e a d! It went boom just like 2 of the Jaws sharks in ridiculous fashion. Younger Charles Dance. Wow I forgot him.

4.......... oh.........4...yikes. As of this type I'm at the 48:18 mark and will have to finish it tomorrow. Its ambien time and a cold front hit and the mosquitoes still haven't managed to come this late in the year somehow so my Cajun ass going outside to burn and watch drones and satellites fly by till I'm to googly eyed to see straight. Much more fun than this comedic entry into the sci/horror themed franchise. Holy hell what were they thinking?
