ST Daisy Ridley (Rey) in Episode VII

She could have been separated (kidnapped perhaps?) from them as a child, who then escapes and finds herself living by her wits on a backwater planet called Tatooine where she is discovered by chance by say, John or Luke. I rather like the idea of the audience not knowing her lineage at all when we first meet her but there being a hint in John Williams' music ('Daisy's theme' as it were, with echoes of Luke's or Leia's) before the dramatic 'big reveal'. That way, she can be your backwater planet orphan street urchin-type who is also a Skywalker/Solo.

 

Remember Ronan's audition about "opening a bag and not knowing what a lighter saber is"? That would fit this too.

 

Nah... like jedijax said, they were just generic casting sides so they could get a feel for how well the actresses auditioning could portray a character with those traits. The emotional state of a character like "Rachel" is what they were looking for the actresses auditioning to get across. The backstory details given were for the audition only and likely have nothing to do with the backstory for the version of the character we'll see in the film.

 

Did anybody from Disney come out and say the descriptions in these castings sides are incorrect or are we just assuming so?

 

I think people are just making assumptions. Sometimes auditions are based on material that's not in the movies, and sometimes it is (for example ANH). Time will tell, I guess.

 

Know what would fix it better? Make her neither Luke nor Leia's daughter.
She doesn't look ANYTHING like Carrie Fisher. I suspect people are making themselves see that because they WANT to see it.

But, a twist... she isn't a Skywalker or Solo, but IS related to Luke and Leia.

She does look a lot like Natalie, so make her a Naberrie. The great-niece of Padme.

Or, make her a Skywalker, but not Luke's daughter. What do we know of Shmi Skywalker? Did she have a brother or sister? Seems like Skywalkers are native to Tatooine.

 

Or maybe Uncle Owen's love child!

 

Well, yeah, it's all a lot of "if's". We have no idea what any of these characters are.

 

He could easily be can fodder and go on to be a Jedi, if that's the way they want to take it. Luke was a farmer and he did ok. Equally none of this might pan out of course. But I like imperial cannon fodder to Jedi as an arc.

 

I don't think anyone's going to pelt you with large rocks and FTR I'm not convinced either. I have no problem with her being so however.

 

Are people starting to have doubts that she's a Solo? I've just noticed a few people recently saying this, yet it seemed for a while pretty much everyone thought she was a Solo.

The audition character and the actual character are not the same thing. No way they would reveal such important information before the movie`s release.

 

I think there might flavours of those casting descriptions in some of the characters, or even a scene. But who knows?


Here's a recent Chloe Bruce video (apologies if already posted). I wonder if we'll see her doubling for some scenes with some of these moves? Killer skills.

 

I just think she will be Luke's because it solves all our arguments about a Skywalker being the lead of the trilogy.

I think everything is in line for a Solo girl, but there is one strong reason why things could be different than what we are all expecting. Remember the Rachel description? It clearly described the character as an orphan. And the only thing that made us intantly think about her as a Solo was that she was between Harrison and Carrie.

 

...and her dad calling her character royalty and an action hero ...and her commenting on meeting Ford ...and her looking like Padme/Leia ...and her rumored saber fighting shots that already took place

 

The half royal and half action part was not quoted like the rest of her dad's comments, so it could be mere speculation from the author. Later in the article, her father said "But I have sworn to secrecy", yet he went on and revealed she would play a half royal and half action hero anyway?

 

Fine, that proves he is very likely that she plays a Solo, at least I think he is going to. But what I can´t stand is why the Rachel description talked about an orphan.

 

Agreed. Still dont like the Orphan part, runs too contradictory to the 'happy' ending for Han and Leia at the end of Return of the Jedi. Though we don't know if the 'Rachel' character will be the character Daisy is playing or not...

 

If she is then they basically spoiled Han and Leia`s deaths in the casting paper, which would be the stupidest thing anyone has ever done. Which is why I don`t believe that Rachel has anything to do with the actual character.

 

Could mean lots of things other than they die in the movie... Maybe they put her into hiding as a child, maybe her cover storyon a mission is an orphan, maybe she was captured young by the Empire but escaped but thus far has failed to find her way home, maybe Luke kidnapped her like the Jedi of the republic since Leia said bleep that no marriage rule (please no, just no... Don't want), maybe she's just on her own for tthe first time in her life and 'orphan' was the best way to sum it up without spoilers.

Anyways I think like you they're not likely the same character (that character was listed as open to multiracial after all, that cant be Han and Leia's kid... Unless lando betrayed han again )but I'm not ruling out the possibility either...

 

Yeah, the multiracial casting pretty much destroys that theory. I think its more likely that Lupita Nyong'o or Gwendoline Christie are playing "Rachel".

Or... follow me here... maybe she is NOT playing Han and Leia's daughter and everybody is basing what they think they know off of the EU, which does not exist.
