Have to admit i get a sadistic joy of these leaks getting out. Serves JJ and KK right for all the secret crap they are doing.
They should know that when they tell people zero fans get angry and leak everything even story spoilers. Will be happy when JJ is gone.

Why, because he wants the audience to have the best movie experience possible by not knowing everything going into it? The movie is still over a year away. I'm sure we'll start seeing actual footage & stills soon enough

For the record, the info I posted about the "Knight" was not from art. Totally different sphere. I asked a lot of questions late last night and I'm getting the answers today.

The lightsaber hilt itself is really cool looking.

The interpretation of concept art is still tricky business without context. I don't see how the interpretations can be 100% spot on for all of this. There is likely a ton that we don't understand regardless of what has been interpreted.

I would love for the Medieval elements to return to Star Wars, especially regarding the villain's armor and weapon design.

I really hope the final version of the hilt doesn't have emitters that stick out so far for the side blades. With the current look a lightsaber could slide down and slash through the side emitters really easily, making them... rather useless (unless the emitters are protected by a lightsaber resistant material? Cortosis anyone?)

I do like the idea of a lightsaber 'broadsword' for lack of a better term, but I think this design needs a bit more refinement.

What if the crosspieces can move up and grab a saber in forced lock position?

There is an answer via EU/Legends! There are metals that Lightsabers cannot cut through (check out Star Wars: The Jedi Path). If you made the quillons/crossbar or crescent bar at the handle of such a metal it could work. That is why I wish all EU/Legends ideas were not thrown out. Sometimes you do not need to reinvent the wheel.

The following is all from Wookiepedia:

    "Lightsaber-resistant materials

Aside from the blade of another lightsaber, there were rare materials that could withstand a lightsaber blade, but with varying degrees of success:
    • Cortosis, although a rare and expensive metal, was a popular defense against lightsabers. Purified cortosis ore had the ability to momentarily "short out" a lightsaber blade, rendering it inoperable for a brief period of time before the wielder could reactivate it. Lightsabers with Mestare crystals were known to be immune to this effect. Cortosis alloy was sturdier than purified cortosis ore, but was only capable of deflecting a lightsaber blade and not deactivating it. One reason why cortosis was so expensive was the need to refine it. Pure, unrefined Cortosis ore was—for unknown reasons—dangerously ionized and anyone who touched it would be killed instantly. There were multiple methods of forging cortosis armor and weapons, each with varying effects.
    • Phrik, was a rare metallic compound that could withstand a lightsaber blade, although unlike cortosis, Phrik did not possess the ability to cause the blade to short out. Phrik was most notably used in the construction of the electrostaffs wielded by General Grievous's MagnaGuards. Other notable uses of Phrik included elements of Palpatine's lightsaber and Dark trooper armor.

A tikulini's skin could withstand a lightsaber strike
    • Darkswords were an ancient type of sword made from a special material that could parry lightsabers. Unlike cortosis, this material did not possess the ability to temporarily deactivate a lightsaber blade it made contact with.
    • Armorweave was a cloth said to give some resistance to lightsabers, although the protection the reinforced material afforded was limited.
    • Sith alchemy was employed during the eras of the first Sith Empire to augment the properties of metals so as to counter the seemingly unstoppable lightsaber. The Sith also made use of such elements as cortosis in the forging of their Sith swords. After the original Sith Empire, the most notorious use of Sith alchemy was in the construction and reinforcement of Darth Vader's armor.
    • Mandalorian iron: A metal found on the planet Mandalore—known as beskar in the Mandalorian language—Mandalorian iron could be forged into several configurations to take advantage of its exceptional lightsaber-resistant qualities. Commonly used in the creation of Mandalorian armor or weapons, the metal was also used to construct the door sealing Freedon Nadd's tomb.
    • Force weapon: Weapons imbued with the power of the Force could be used to parry a lightsaber's blade without harm.
    • Vong technology: Vonduun Skerr Kyrric armor proved to be lightsaber resistant, and Amphistaffs were able to clash with lightsaber blades repeatedly without sustaining damage.
    • Water: All lightsabers, unless specially made, would short out when they were submerged in water, due to rapid chain reactions and the instant overpowering of water on the blade. In rain, a lightsaber would steam up, but not short out.[43] Some Jedi, specifically those of aquatic species, designed special lightsabers that could activate underwater.
Other counteracting materials existed in the galaxy, such as various energy shields. Some animals, such as lava dragons, were possessed of natural armor that reflected the blade. Superconductive materials (e.g. ultrachrome, Quantum-crystalline armor) deflected lightsaber strikes. The skin of the Tikulini worms of Jazbina was able to withstand a lightsaber strikes. The Zillo Beasts native to Malastarealso had plate-like armor resistant to lightsaber blows."

    -Wookiepedia

Edit: The materials I have listed above could serve for Medieval like armor for Jedi and Sith and for the quillons/cross guard of Medieval lightsabers. :)

I was convinced that Maul was a member of the Sith species. He even has a double saber, just like someone who led the Massassi.

I don't like some elements of the design of this guy. I especially don't like the "broadsaber". I get having allusions to medieval themes but this is too overt. Jedi Knights & lightsabers are nods to medieval stories but a laser broadsword with a hilt?? What's next, chainmail? Bow & arrows with laser tips? I will say however that this concept art is or was almost certainly legit given the confirmations from several sources. The medieval knight theme is also clearly on the minds of the SW creative team. For those who haven't seen it this is the Inquisitor's full armor that will feature at some point in Rebels:

MVS plays a deranged Ric Olie who has survived by using cybernetic appendages, thus increasing his lifespan. He venerates Vader because he feels that Anakin's ability to "catch on pretty quick" implied the Dark Side really was the only answer, Look for the following lines in Episode VII as a clue to the character's true identity:

CYBORG: "This Star Destroyer is a pretty big ship!"

CYBORG: "Wow, you're holding a lightsaber!"

    CYBORG: "Hyperspace sure is fast!"

Wow, haven't heard that one yet, and I like it. Do you mean creator or father? His creator could have been Plagueis or Palp.

The "look" of a villain unless it's utterly ridiculous doesn't really say much for how good of a villain the character can be ... that all boils down to the writing of the character -- their personality, their actions, their motivations, etc.

So really I don't react too much to this. Darth Maul looked pretty cool at first, but honestly he was a dud in Episode I simply because he was written as such a neutered character that he didn't really get to do anything other than have a 3-4 minute lightsaber battle and then a convenient exit.

Also I'll add this character pictured to me looks dead on with the "grave robber" concept art character that's holding Vader's helmet, it would seem the "face mask" is retractable to some degree I guess, but that's a fairly common sci-fi convention.

From the concept art the character looks female to me too.

I fear, though, this could mean Revan will never become canon - if the looked is used for a new ST character :(

again looking at the saber, the hilt seems even more useless as i look closer. the purpose of a hilt is to prevent your opponents blade from sliding down and chopping off your hand or arm. on this saber, the hilt isnt just light protruding from the main handle, each side has its own power source that protrudes about 5 inches from the main handle. if a saber were to slide down it would just chop right through the hilt and through the wielders arm

i really like the idea of a relic collector and going into the ancient history of the star wars universe. i really loved the KOTOR games. this would also fit the castle description of where some of the artwork apparently takes place in.

It was common in KoTOR and SWtOR for the Sith to collect artifacts and seek more knowledge about the Force.

Yep this has been pointed out many times. Hopefully they fixed this issue before they included it in the film. If this guy is in it at all.
